Wonderful emphasis on mid and low string moments near the end. I’ve not heard them that pronounced before, which makes this interpretation very refreshing for me to listen to
Before Rafeal Payare started conducting, he was principal horn, and I feel he was just as amazing on the horn as he is in conducting. Amazing, and larger than life!
It is played very well, but I feel it could start even softer; it should come from (almost) nothing, gradually rising to the eruption of bell-up horns and tutti orchestra. I remember when I studied tuba, 20 years ago, we studied this excerpt in the low brass class. The professor, who was feared or at least not very liked for his sometimes sadistical and mean didactic methods, kept insisting that we should start softer, almost inaudible. After many failed attempts, growing more and more frustrated, he bet us a case of beer that we couldn't do it. Of course, the next playthrough was perfect. He angrily berated us "Sure, when I bet you a case of beer you'll do it! Of course you're not getting that, you a**holes!"
" it should come from (almost) nothing " en français, " venir (presque)de nulle part" like the beginning of Bruckner's 7th symphony. That's what Celibidache said to his musicians !
My first time hearing Mahler 2 was live with the St. Louis Symphony. I remember this part giving me literal chills.
Mahler is the patron saint of brass. - Greetings to all brass fans, Heinz
I feel resurrected!
The bells-up French horn section gets me every time.

gotta say this might be my favorite performance of this specific excerpt
Expenditure, technique, talent, a lot of individual and collective dedication. Example for achieving quality education. Congratulations!
Nice change of pace from the N.Y. Phil. excerpt which has been on TH-cam for a long time. I love both.
You should listen to the NY Phil recording with Bernstein. Deck on tuba and Harwood on bass. It's great.
1st Trumpet control - AMAZING!

Definitely one of the best musicians the SBSO had.
I’m confused because that’s Gustavo Dudamel conducting...
Payare is on the French Horn see 2:32 @@olimcginnes1132
Perfect !!!! Wonderful!!!!!
The trumpets at 2:40 is very Brucknerian
La migliore sinfonia di Mahler, Dudamel un grande Direttore...

Slower than I've heard before, but I LOVE IT!!! OUTSTANDING brass section!!!

Not enough TUBAS!!!
there are usually not that many tubas in an orchestra you'll usually see 1 or 2 maybe more but you really only see that many
4 trombones..... In an orchestra....... I am confused
Some composers wrote for an orchestra with 4 trombones, especially composers of the end of the romantic period: Mahler, Bruckner, Shostakovich ...
Alexandre Teixeira interesting
Shostakovich even wrote for 6 trombones, while some other composers will only write for 1 or 2.
LlamaCoasters 6 trombones as in 5 tenors and a bass or 6 tenors or was there an alto and a contrabass as well?
I believe there are 4 tenors, 2 bass, and 1 tuba in his 7th symphony.
this sounds pitched up a bit
My, all those good-looking Venezuelans--men and women.
