Game of Thrones “The Rains of Castamere” (Cover for 40+ Low Brass) (21 Bass Trombones, 7 Contrabass Trombones, 8 Tubas, 3 Cimbassos, and 9 Tenor Trombones)
5 Years later, your favorite low brass ensemble is back. This time with more bass trombones.
Over 40 of New York City’s top commercial and orchestral low brass musicians have reunited for Epic Low Brass “The Rains of Castamere.” This one-of-a kind ensemble features the legendary Joe Alessi on tenor trombone, an absurd amount of contrabass trombones and cimbassos, musicians from across the city, including Broadway, the New York Philharmonic, and the Metropolitan Opera.
We have known for a while that we needed to make another video, but getting this many low brass together at one time is quite challenging. After five years of plotting and waiting, the low brass players of New York were all available late one Sunday evening, and it was time to do it again. In an effort to make the ensemble even bigger (and lower), we decided to double the size of the group to over 40, adding many more bass trombones and tubas. This may be the only city in the world with a deep enough pool of professional low brass players to form an ensemble such as this. “The Rains of Castamere” celebrates the Lannister’s decisive victories over their rivals, and was featured prominently during the “Red Wedding” episode of Game of Thrones. Our arrangement features a solo by New York Philharmonic principal trombonist Joe Alessi, includes more contrabass trombones and cimbassos than is wise, and has been said to be Ser Tywin Lannister’s preferred version.

Ramin Djawadi actually worked for Hans Zimmer for a while.
I know it's a joke but as it is a widespread misconception: Hans Zimmer did indeed come up with the low base sound for Inception and Sherlock but didn't really use it since. Other composers did pick up on it though and use it on everything.

He can easily get this kind of power if he wants it. Inception was scored for 6 tenor trombones, 6 bass trombones (2 doubling contra), and 4 tubas for example.
He doesn't want it. He records the brass players and then perverts the sound with digital effects and reverb, sometimes combined with brass samples. This is how things are done at Remote Control Productions. It's insulting to the musicians.
It appears that you've used every contrabass trombone in the world for this! I hope nobody else needed one that day!

This was already epic enough. Then you throw in a Joseph Alessi solo and it is just unbeatable.
As a tuba player, those pedal D's are the best things ever.
This is why I want them to do this with a bunch of Tubas and percussion for the piece "The Gun Pointed at the Head of Universe" from Halo 1. Pedal Gs (yes, the one too low for Piano to play), and low Ds and Cs (and some pdeal Bb's as well). Would be awesome.

As a string bass player and just started learning tuba, this is such a bliss to listen to. Nothing beats the 'oomph' of low brass. Damn I teared up 😭

The Cimbasso is the Sasquatch of the Brass word, people have heard of its existence but only a few claim to have seen one!!!

@@ruanpingshan I have played both, given a choice I would probably prefer a contrabass, but I am a trombonist by training. For the tubist the clear choice would be the cimbasso . If I had to play in a confined space... cimbasso. But honestly, beyond that they don't sound significantly different. No more so than say trombone Vs valve trombone.
The cimbasso is for all intents and purposes a valve contrabass.
pros and cons: one is louder, and the other is louder.
I'm currently watching Game of Thrones for the first time. Today, I saw the "red wedding", and while I really liked this video before, it has a whole new level of depth and impact. Holy shit I love this show.

I've been playing the trombone for a few years but this is the first time I've ever seen a cimbasso (or three of them!).

This inspired me to pick up my trombone again. The melodic tone with that edgy and beautifully gnarly sound of the trombone just gives all low brass players this feeling of glee and just laugh enjoyably how well this instrument is played. Truly no other instrument in the brass family can ever sound this direct, this wholesome, this loud of a TROMBONE 💯🙌
My dream is to have a Tywin Lannister + Rains of Castamere prequel TV show with 2-3 seasons and have this theme play and other variations of it!

What astounds me besides the *MEATY* vibrations coming from the cimbassos and contrabasses hitting them pedal tones, is that you can hear French Horns and Trumpets, but from a trombone and I love that so much.
This really does show the superiority and power the low brass has over the other sections

Low brass is just, yessssss, like its soo beautiful with low meaning.
I learned music playing trumpet in middle school, but it wasn't until I started playing Baritone and Tuba in high school that it really light my fire.

I just love the sound of a bass/contrabass trombone with it's bell reverberating, such a beefy sound.
Such an experience listening to the low, dark booming brass for the first time. I can imagine that, when doing the same with upper brass (trumpets/cornets, tenor horns), the atmosphere will be very different
