I love the sigh of relief when the young lady playing the oboe finishes her solo. Like she had anything to worry about. She's really really good. And that Bassoon player is pretty darned awesome too. I'd buy this on DVD if it was available. Along with most if not all their other music. All their soloists are superb. I need to mention that guy playing violin, as good as any violinist I've ever heard. OMG, The dour looking guy in percussion is even smiling during the "can can". Wow!

Why is this ok now, when for the previous 300+ years of printed/recorded music, this wasn't the case? What music do we learn about in our history books? The #1 hits. Mozart was like the Lil Wayne of his day. Bach was the Drake of the 1700s, Liszt even had screaming fans that would go hysterical when he walked in the room, known as "Lisztomania" which was similar to "Beatlemania". Do you think that in 100 years anyone is going to be talking about Brotha Lynch and Immortal Technique? No, they are going to be talking about Lil Wayne and Drake. And this is why rap sucks. Because it should have stayed as an underground thing and not blown into the mainstream for producers to make puppets out of actors.

There are many great rappers who are still making music, releasing it, and getting the recognition that they deserve on the charts. Wu Tang released an album not a year ago, and it was great. We're going to be learning about them and every other good rapper who made it and is making music that the people like, as well as Drake and Lil Wayne

I am so amazed at the quality of the young people in this orchestra! I live near Palm Springs in California and I am consistently watching this orchestra on the other side of the world. There's nothing better in between!

It is fantastic! He realises that the enthusiasm of the orchestra is such that there is nothing he could do to hold them back! Seriously though I think that he and the orchestra do a great job!

What appeared to me is that he isn't just conducting with his arms. He's shrugging in time with the music and bouncing on his feet and singing to himself he enjoys it so much.

Bravo! Wonderful! I never get tired of praising this brilliant orchestra of young musicians from Kranj, a small town in Eslovenia, in the heart of Europe. Bravo Matjaz Bagotaj (Spalla), bravo Nadja Drakslar (first Clarinet), bravo first Oboe, bravo first flute, bravo maestro Nejc Becan and greetings from Brazil! I hope one day I can attend a concert of this wonderful orchestra!
The Gimnazija Kranj Symphony is not a school orchestra. It is a semi professional orchestra associated with and sponsored by a school, containing a mix of professional and youth musicians. Some of these are indeed very talented kids from schools. Others are professional musician graduates of music schools. I believe that the only specification for membership (besides great musicianship) is that you must still be considered a "Youth". (broadly speaking that is)!
I'm playing this piece in a community band right now. I'm a freshman in highschool, so my chair isn't high, but I hope I can play the clarinet solo in this someday. The whole slow section with the cello, flute, oboe and clarinet solos is so beautiful.

I've watched this, start to finish, twenty times at least. Everything about this performance is perfect: The orchestration. The musicianship. The enthusiasm. Even the camera work and editing. The only part I can't understand is why the audience did not leap to their feet at the conclusion.
Audiences are funny critturs. Some are just introverted and unable to express themselves openly. I'm reminded of watching the Calgary Stampede parade, and they whooped and holered like crazy, byt the wathcers did just that, watched on in near total silence. Funny critturs, as I say.
This is a completely brilliant video. The cuts from musician to the whole orchestrate to another musician are perfectly timed, and the conductor and all the young players are impossible not to like. I'm reminded how the "can can" phenomenon has so over-exposed (pun not intended) the "gallop" finale music that the audio alone can sound vapid. But when you watch this orchestra play it, and see the joy on so many faces as they blast out the melody all at once, it sounds fresh again. Just great!

I've just realised I share birthdays with Jacques Offenbach! When I was at Teachers Training College, the Music Deprtment and the Theatre Club staged 'Orpheus In The Underworld'. (1970) I was co-stage manager. It was brilliant (although I say it myself) and a highlight in my life.
What a marvelous symphony orchestra!!! It's hard to pick out a favorite, but the first chair violin is outstanding, as is the cellist, clarinetist and bassoonist!!! Heck... they're all great! The whole orchestra!
It's nice to see so many young people take an interest in cultural activities instead of wasting time on video games, drugs n other garbage. Even though this was 10 yrs ago.

When I was at Teachers Training College, the Music Deprtment and the Theatre Club staged 'Orpheus In The Underworld'. (1970)
I was co-stage manager.
It was brilliant (although I say it myself) and a highlight in my life.
What a marvelous symphony orchestra!!! It's hard to pick out a favorite, but the first chair violin is outstanding, as is the cellist, clarinetist and bassoonist!!! Heck... they're all great! The whole orchestra!
Don't forget the percussionists.
And they all look like they're around 19 years old.

Father got me this on a classical compilation LP. Got into it very quickly and it's now one of my favourites.
It's nice to see so many young people take an interest in cultural activities instead of wasting time on video games, drugs n other garbage. Even though this was 10 yrs ago.
