    I love it..threw the rod to get out of a jam and the fish was still on!😊 And yes I have done the same. Very glad to just hear the water and you. I know a man that when he was a boy caught a fish too big for his cane pole. His dad told him to throw the pole in the water, so he did without question, and then his dad said follow that pole. He did and a 1/4 mile down the river the pole was floating near the bank in a pool, and the boy not only picked up his pole but a 18 lb. bass that got wore out by the pole. He became one of very best fishing buddies in Alabama. Great video and always tight lines. Tony Walkingstick ❤fishing 🎣.

    I love this creek!! I always get stuck too at the old tunnel railroad bridge. I’ve been seeing more shady people in that area than I use to see. A couple months ago down there, I was approached and asked if I wanted to buy some weed, I didn’t partake. Great content and I appreciate it, thanks!!!

    Cool video, thanks for sharing. It looks like an enjoyable time. And yeah, you always have to be safe when you're alone or in a new area. Unless I'm at a trout park or with people, I always have a knife or handgun. I've never been in a bad situation, but just want to be prepared.

    Great video, fun to watch as always. It was 80 here two days ago in western Maryland and I was having fun catching smaller trout on some very aggressive dry fly takes.
    I’ve said it before, I’d love to see something explaining how you
    hold your line with your fingers. I’m assuming it’s for strike detection. I’d love to hear more about it.
    Thanks for taking us in this journey with you.

    Regarding your observation about some wild rainbows in the east having spotting patterns similar to cutthroats, I think you are correct. I worked for the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources back in the early 1970’s. Before the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery was built in the mid-to-late ‘70’s, the Department received its trout from older federal hatcheries in Tennessee and Virginia (which have long since been turned over to the States). One of our very senior hatchery staff had been employed by the old Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife (now Fish and Wildlife Service) and told me that there had been cutthroat lineage mixed into some of the federal rainbow stocks for decades. Sometimes it was especially noticeable on the sub-adult 5”-7” trout stocked into the more remote “put-grow-and-take streams in the Daniel Boone National Forest. I recall catching one in such a back country stream after it had been in the stream a year or more - looked just like a wild cuttbow you might find in Colorado or elsewhere in the west. Beautiful fish. So, yes, I think your observation is “spot on,” if you will forgive the pun.

      Keep in mind, if the trout live long enough, they will adapt to the color of the water and creek bed color. I've documented several brook trout differences between 4 different mountain streams in southern PA and MD. In all 4 instances the brookies had very different color schemes on their backs and their spots were very different, They ranged from a very dark green to a camo design to like bronze. The like bronze color was the coolest but the was it lived in was very tannic and light rust color. Their color adapts to help blend in and protect them from predators in the sky.
      Also, it's possible that fish clubs or others actually bought cutthroats, not all states have the same stocking restrictions on private water or club stockings.

    Stone flys seem to work about any time. Just wondering here but your 10ft 6” rod , fishing smaller streams do you have more tree snags ? I use a 7ft rod in smaller streams. Thank you for sharing. Really nice video entrance at the beginning.

    John. Is it fair to say that the main way you fly fish for trout, at least in W Virginia, is tight lining (high sticking) jig streamers?

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn’t say that, I think I’d say I’m usually tight lining nymphs more so than streamers. I have fished jig streamers some recently but it’s definitely not the main way I fish

    No way that 1st fish was a wild rainbow. Stocked hold over maybe, but not a wild in that creek. The small ones are differently wild because of the size.
    For those fishermen in low water areas and haven't seen water in a while, do the fish a favor, don't fish. I know it's hard to refrain from something we all love to do but the fish are stressed as it is from low water and warm temps (low oxygen levels in the water) and the fact that they are huddled in pools because of it. Let them be and increase their chances of survival.
