- "The Legend of Zelda" has featured plenty of weird items throughout its history. Link builds up an incredible inventory of awesome weapons and magical relics each game. But for this list, we’ll be looking at items that are anything but the norm. We’re not saying these items are bad or good, just that they’re a little bit strange. Our list includes the Magic Powder, the Tingle Tuner, the Mask of Scents, Roc's Feather, and more! If there’s an oddity we failed to showcase, don’t hesitate to let us know about it in the comments!

The “mask of scent” makes perfect sense! Pigs (hogs) are used to hunt for truffles (a mushroom) and they do a better job than dogs. The only down side is ! they will eat them if the hunter isn’t fast enough…

That weird chicken thing with a human head that helps you warp out of dungeons in Twilight Princess really freaks me out
Same i remember when i first played tp on my old gcn and found him in the forrest temple and was like "omg wth is this abomination"
Finding a mushroom with the Mask of Scents on Gorman's underwear in Stockpot Inn was scarring
the toilet has one as well
I didn't know that. I literally just replayed Majora's Mask; crazy how over 20 years later one can still learn something new about these games.

I agree with #1. My first time seeing them I literally said "What on Earth? What kind of deformed chicken are you?"
Hestu gift allows you to force hestu to dance at your will. useful? no. Entertaining? Once. a huge troll from devs to completionist ? Absolutely
Imagine collect 900 seeds and get Hestu's gift to realise that those seeds was never the actual seeds
In the German version of TP, Oocoo is literally called "the aunt", which makes it even weirder.

Lol what if people who got Hetsu’s gift is something that transfers to botw 2 and it’s actually useful there.
With the exception of Hestu’s gift, the other items are useful to the games, I’ve used both Roc’s Feather and the Lens of Truth to help me out. I just wish the Spinner was given more use in Twilight Princess like they did in Hyrule Warriors.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't American Dad have an episode surrounding something resembling Hestu's 'gift'?

The Golden Turd was nice trolling on Nintendo's part. Only thing missing was Roger from American Dad to trade for it. I'm curious on why Nintendo decided to do that though.
I still think it would be cool to have the Pictobox return but with a Camera Obscura style functionality to fight Poes & Ghinis...

Link's had so many items over the years that only have 1 use or only exist for puzzle solving & photos....using Fatal Frame's Camera Obscura as inspiration for a combat related function of the Pictobox opens a lot of cool possibilities. Imagine a whole horror themed dungeon where the twist is that, like in Fatal Frame or Luigi's Mansion, you need to eliminate all the ghosts within

What about skyward sword? You get a remote control bug that picks stuff up and even much weirder and dumber, a vacuum cleaner
The gust bellows was pretty stupid. Its use within its own level felt pretty contrived (could’ve just used the sail cloth like the deku leaf’s other function…but no. Just haaaad to force WiiMotion+ AGAIN) and outside that had literally no useage aside from robbing Pipit of his hard-earned savings ‘cause his mom’s idk either depressed or a slob…? Anyway. I didn’t have the heart for some Easy Money after getting those gratitude crystals.
The beetle tho. I used that thing so much for scouting and grabbing items. Its only negative is that WiiMotion+ is glitchy as hell even when sweet-talking it so the beetle would often be off by like 45-90 degrees and need recalibration (AGAIN.) But…I consider that a game-issue, not an issue with the item. (When it worked it worked great and got heavy use.)
@@anonymousfellow8879 yeah the beetle is fun and useful even if a little dumb due to Wiimote issues (I could practically write a novel on how bad the Wiimote controls are). I just thought it belongs on a weirdest items video.
But I hated the gust bellows a ton. You might say it really SUCKED

I genuinely think Nintendo put Hestu’s Gift in to make fun of people who wasted their time getting useless pellets when you only need roughly half of them to max out your inventory
Removing the Tingle Tuner from Windwaker HD was a really odd choice IMO. The whole idea of the TT was to connect a GBA to the gamecube to give you a second screen... Yet the WiiU already has a second screen - The console was literally the perfect device to revive the tingle tuner - but they took it out in favour of the tingle bottle... which could easily have been another seperate item Link could have picked up later in the game. The Tingle Bottle was a cool feature however - allowing you to leave notes and messages for other players in a similar way to Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
Honestly that pig mask looks exactly like the goblins in breathe of the wild, I don't think it's a coincidence, they used a lot of old characters for the world, and gave them new names, like the wizards are also inbreathe of the wild
link to the past is a damn near perfect game but some of the items in it just seemed excessive or made no sense at all. Why was book of mudora even there? There was like one dungeon that needed it just to get in.

I always thought the blast mask in Majora’s Mask was the worst. You hurt yourself using it so I never use it.

The Mask Of Scents is based on truffle hunting pigs. These pigs are trained to hunt for a very rare type of edible fungus, the truffle. Truffles are used in very expensive gourmet foods prepared at exclusive restaurants. They can only be found in the wild as they can’t be cultivated and they usually grow underground next to tree roots in northern Italy. Dogs can also be used to hunt for truffles, but pigs to a better job

The spinner is one of the most fun items in all of zelda and arbiters grounds is the best dungeon in all.of zelda imo
Yeah I remember making a separate save right before the boss because I found it to be so much fun and such a cool fight. TP is a great game
I like the spinner too. The dominion rod, on the other hand...
My favorite item on this list is, by far, the Tingle Tuner. It's just so dang useful. My least favorite is the golden turd.

All these things where you say it’s weird an ability was locked behind and item. It’s to limit progression. You can’t get there because you can’t swim. Can’t get there because you can’t jump. It lets players find things but not be able to access them too early
Etsus Gift is Nintendo's stance on trophies/achievements.
A stance in which they really need to get over themselves.
Trophies are a ton of fun when utilized properly.
Zelda games have a lot of collecting but yeah... some items are bizarre lol

ive never had to leave a dungeon in any of the games and ive played them all, there are plenty of items in the dungeons to stock up with
Spirit Temple requires you to leave without finishing it

Well idk if I've ever experienced it then. I might have once or twice, I suppose- but it's so easy to prep for dungeons. And like you say many dungeons stock you up on resources anyway.
this, in my own point of view, shows how creative nintendo can get with their two main flagship franchises, mario and zelda. as for the games, i prefer the original 2D zelda games and breath of the wild, even though breath of the wild is much, much larger than a link to the past. anyway, no matter how useful or uncanny they are, items and gadgets from zelda games are pretty unique and fun to use. it almost feels like nintendo is more on-the-face in terms of creativity in zelda and more subtle in mario. fascinating.

I really hope that breath of the wild tingle Islands where the last reference that will ever see of tangle I am one of the many people over in the western world that could not stand that character and felt that it ruined almost every game that it was in including the ones where you had to buy maps from him Tango is just a waste of a character that I do not understand why they have continuously brought back time and time again when he is known to be one of the most hated NPCs in the entire series
The tingle tuner can be useful if you have a gba
For the jumping feather we all know that the gameboy just didn't have enough buttons to put a jump action anyhow.

Don't remind me of Hetsu's Gift. There's a reason why Breath of the Wild is not the best Zelda for me. There's a reason why I choose Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Metroid Dread, Mega Man 11, and even indie games over it.
