As someone who thinks this arbitrary weight is nonsense, I am excited to see the innovation driven by this to make things smaller, lighter and still retain all the great stuff about larger quads.
A lot of it comes down to inertia really. A 1.5kg Mavic is around the weight of an adult seagull, which has punched through the front window of a blackhawk heli at speed before. So the idea of letting unaware/untrained hobby pilots up into the same airspace as manned aircraft doing /hundreds/ of MPH is aaasking for a real accident. In reality the 100MPH threshold folks are hyping is not that big of a deal if you don't have the weight to carry that speed through an impact. With less weight comes less impact joules and a lot less risk of consequence. THAT being said, what FPV race/freestyle/LR pilot actually wants to be anywhere near the altitude of jets and manned aircraft? We're almost all
She’s flying my golden frame!!! I love that frame. My main build has been on that frame since I Built it. Going on a year and a half strong. Bought a second one. It’s just a nice frame. I second that.
I just built my version of a 4in 6s quad and under 250gm, it turns out that it weight was 182gm with a 6s 450ma lipo. And I rebuilt it with bigger motors and a single aio flight controller. But 5in is great. Thanks again for the video
I tried running a Podracer this season and you pretty much nailed it. Agility is awesome and it's super fun, BUT top speed is lacking, in a mid-air you get obliterated, you're much more affected by wind, the battery sag is real and turtling is much much harder (and riskier on an AIO ESC). If everyone had to race sub 250g and the playing field was level it would be fine, but against the snorting 'roided up maniac that is a 5" race quad a sub-250g just can't compete.
Main benefits to me on sub250 stuff is 1: No registration needed and 2: No 107 needed. Your hobby is your hobby and you don't need to interact with people who regulate planes and big commerical drones aside from a quick safety test. What really needs to happen is to have regulation removing the spotter requirement for sub250 fpv flights. FPV drones have better visibility and situational awareness than commercial aircraft.

Episode idea: Hot Potato FPV See how long you can keep an FPV quad up in the air while every 30 seconds you transfer the goggles & transmitter to another pilot. Probably best tried with a whoop or something else small & tough that doesn't break or damage things easily.

Then I'll be all over the sub 250f market. But right now... Not all of use fly DJI or Sharkbyte, and for making cinematic freestyle videos those cameras don't cut it. Show me something like that... And I'll be all over it.
I bet controlling the throttle is the hardest in stock betaflight pid !! I have never gone more than 40%throttle on my custom sub250 5inch freestyle frame

Sooner than later we all FPV'rs will be flying sub250 machines with low-power vtx's. It will be good: Fly or race almost everywhere, no permissions needed, anti-karen drones.

Should let the paramotor guy (sorry, forgot his name) fly an actual drone instead of the DJI. When you get used to a normal drone the DJI feels like a powerless brick (the DJI is my first drone and I now fly 6S).

running a babyhawk hd with crossfire and Vista (nebula pro) with vifly gps mate, tbs gps 8.2, and tpu feet. all under 250g with an R-line 850 4s.

I still think the sweet spot for sub-250g is 4" with a Vista and without a GoPro. However, the Outlow is definitely a cool design.

They used Nebula Nano. Maybe go with DJI Micro or Nebula Pro instead. That way they won't need GoPro for pretty picture. :)

i runt the vista on a hyperlite freerange frame, it has a heatsink built into the frame and it stays nice and cool

I built a 4" 1606 850mah 4s sub 250g that a cop clocked at 114mph.
I just have one question. Does that thing fly like a toothpick? It also has a lot less weight compared to the prop area

Using the gps on my quad, I have seen it show 180 km/h (almost 112 mph I believe). This is on a PNP Diatone Roma F5 V2 DJI, with a 6S 1300 mAh.

On the DVR it looks slower then my 4s 5 inch. However I know for sure my kwad doesn't do 85mph haha
Get Vanover to fly it or headsup they are both really consistent.
I have two sub 250's. My favorite is a 4 inch long range that I do freestyle with. Flying under the trees doing slolom and cinematic flying is a gas.
