I watch a lot of youtube for the purpose of finding places to ride MTB near or far from home. While I've done the Sisar loop a few times, this video is the best riding video I have ever seen in terms of providing useful information regarding what to expect. I can't thank you enough! I look forward to exploring your other Gravel Guides for ride ideas.

A fave! Really enjoyed your edit. Getting down from Nordoff has always been challenging much less on a gravel grinder! Discovered this place in the days of yore on my 96 Manitou HT. Love the road drop into wheeler, You've earned it!

@@GravelBikeCalifornia back down the way you went up is quite fun. The road, especially near the top, has surprising flow, and optional wall rides.

Gravel Bike California haha! No worries! I went up Gridley yesterday in hopes to come back down Sisar until my shoe blew open, leaving me with one foot clipped. Needless to say there was plenty of stumbling on the way back down Gridley!
Great video! keep them coming and thank you for all the content. Im the rigid rider barreling by you guys that day. I rode up to the east end of the road to scope out an over nighter on the ridge. This is my backyard and there is so much potential when you come prepared. This ride skirts the Sespe Wilderness and those who come out here should be prepared. Bring a water filter and fill up in the Lions creek draining into Rose Valley Lake for the freshest coldest water.
We were wondering how those coming down chose to ride up.

Great loop. Thanks for posting all these details plus GPX files. I just rode it and the descent was much more manageable on 650x2.25" tires on my Open WI.DE. A dropper would make it even more fun.

I've ridden Gravel Mob 3 times so your video brought back memories... not all good ;) The descent off Nordoff Ridge is terrible on Howard's Trail - I am surprised it was included in the event, and it's not much better going down into Rose Valley. I searched Google Maps for an alternative and I think the only one I found was the one you guys did (Gridley?). Glad I did not attempt that. I swear that the next time I ride here (for Gravel Mob or otherwise), I am going to climb Sisar then turn around and go back the same way... why not... and why not take a Camelbak to be sure to have enough water?
That Highway 33 descent is so fun though...
Gravel Bike California Yes, that descent is fun, but by that point I am so tired I just want to be done... I have ridden Hwy 33 as an out-and-back instead. I guess I am getting old :)
Gridley is a single track for bigger tires, ride gravel mob on a hardtail, and instead go down Gridley, that is what I always do, locals do not ride Howards except for GM
@@liamwoods5353 My gravel bike is my hardtail - Cannondale Slate w/30MM fork. I run 40mm tires on it, but still not enough for Gridley I'm sure.

How does the road stay so smooth that far up? Interesting.
It stays in good shape up Sisar, but once you're on the ridge it dials back a bit.

@@GravelBikeCaliforniaGreat video as usual. Everyone seems to have their own pronunciation for Sisar, I have heard Caesar, Scissor, Sazer to name a few.
@@cx34r As someone who has lived on the road for nearly 17 years, I can confirm the pronunciation is Caesar.
I think it's time you guys invested in fatter tires and/or 650b 😉
Bahhhh....Too much road on this one for wider tires...
It might save you from some of the crashes. I ride 650b commuting in la and doing most of the rides you've done. Helps me a lot, being tall and heavier than most cyclists. No discernable difference on tarmac (250-400mi per week, mostly tarmac). Cheers

I thought about that...but I like to think of it as a phrase that sticks with the 1900s. We'll see how much longer it sticks...

@@GravelBikeCalifornia inevitably there will be a crossover point where more the popular defanition will swing to land on 2000. I'm not fussed, but I think it's something be aware of, so we don't end up sounding like fuddy-duddys.
@@salad_gold_rancher Even though it can apply to all times, sometimes it sticks to something more specific. The first decade of the 1900s, the years were referred to "Aught...". It didn't quite catch on in this millennium...
