    Beautiful film, many thanks. I always look forward to the next post enabling me to explore these waters with you. May I suggest that the inclusion of a map or satellite image now and then might add some context, possibly with the boat's track. It would not give a way too many secrets - these waters will not be overcrowded for a long time. Thanks again.

    I've been binge watching Sailing Yacht Florence's videos over the last two weeks and found your channel last night. You may not be in the tropics but the videography and narration compares well. So good to see sailing around the British Isles. Your yacht may be cramped for 4 but it looks a wonderful life. Just one complaint, please turn down slightly the volume of the music, it dominates the narration which can be an issue late at night or in the early morning. Looking forward to seeing the Outer Hebrides

    Merlex 430. I agree with you 💯 about the videos. But also find the music over powering. Silence is the best sound of all. Nothing like heading out, put up the sails and turn the motor off. Pleasure to watch and listen to.

    Do you winter at anchor or in a marina?

    • @sailing-freespirit
      @sailing-freespirit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s around 50 50. Last winter we spent half of it in a marina and the rest in sheltered anchorages. But this winter because of our more northerly location, we’ll probably stay in a marina (this summer in Scotland the weather has been worse than last winter - we need some respite).

    You should probably not worry too much about the logging. It will almost all be monoculture of non-native species (like Sitka Spruce) but generally the approach when replanting is to replace with native species and often mixed species which is better for biodiversity. Some will also not be replanted and instead left wild for nature to do it’s thing with - whilst felling looks dramatic it’s really just harvesting trees which were planted/farmed for this exact purpose. There are arguments for and against forestry here; it helps the economy, can be a carbon sink, manages ground water, provides a relatively sustainable building material etc v’s issues with biodiversity, fighting against nature, and the aesthetics of logging and symmetrical forests etc. However almost every alternative that might be proposed also has its own issues whether it’s rewilding, upland farming, renewable energy or leisure activity. What I am sure of is if you return in a generation you will no longer recognise the scars that horrified you and will likely see they paved the way for major regeneration.
