I started with 6 hours, My baby sister fell asleep. It was 3 in the morning. She’s been my full support til this day. I felt so... alone, it was so horrible. Many people turned me away, family avoided me. School was no help. I always added art or designs (more than an accent finger) to make the 4 hours worth it. I am now at the two hour mark sometimes 1.5 hours. I am so proud of myself and I won’t stop, I love this industry.! Thank you Young Nails for... not letting us feel alone.

I just started doing acrylic nails on myself and friend. It takes me about 5 to 6 hours. I'm going to start timing myself and get another trainer hand so I can practice & get better!! Y'all made me realize that taking this long just starting out is normal & I really appreciate it!! I was getting so discouraged watching TH-cam videos and ppl saying it shouldn't take that long Thank you thank you thank you❤❤❤❤

My first set took me 6 hours but with time I was able to make it 4 hours. I’m still a newbie so I hope I can get it done faster in the future. It really does take practice.
I think the exciting part is seeing how with every set I get better and better.💕✌🏻

I am 42 and i started doing nails about 3yrs ago. My first set was a nightmare, probably took about 6hrs and by the time i got home the client only had 5 nails, the other 5 had popped off. So be encouraged, improvements will come through practice and commitment

My first set took me foreeevvverrrr! it was like watching paint dry literally! took me about 5-6 hrs. omg I was exhausted mentally afterwards. I did it at home after I got out of school on my dining room table, so there was all this space between me and my friend I was doing the set on bc the dining room table was so wide. Lawd have mercy lol but thank God for practice and growth as well as TH-cam providing education with young nails and others. It now takes me about 2hrs to 2.5 with designs on every nail.. now its the designs that slow me down more then anything ..

I have to say as a stay-at-home mom, having a 2 yr old & having to start/stop every so often, getting to finish my nails on 1 of my hands within 1 in a half days or 2 is pretty good 😂 There have been times when I was able to get it in 8 or 10 hrs if I didn’t care about intricate designs LOL You have to realize, us stay-at-home moms/parents don’t have it easy when we’re by ourselves taking care of the kids & house. We just want some peace to do our nails 😩 Shout out to all the wonderful women who can relate! Everyone is amazing but DAMN it’s tough to get alone time to save my life! 😂👏🏼😂 I know as I continue it’ll get better ☺️💕

Yes!! Me too exactly I’m also a stay at home mother with a 2yr old 😊 it is ALOT different then someone without a kid PLUS you CANNOT focus as you would like because you have to keep an eye on your kid.. and ppl might say “oh do it when they are sleep” but that’s easier said than done because when bedtime come I’m tired from the daily duties also 😩

My first set took me about the same, 5-ish hours. This was 20 years ago. I completely gave up on sculpting acrylic at that point because it was so difficult. I recently bought the young nails pro acrylic kit and man, when I “sculpted” them (it was awful, it looked like something pooped acrylic on my nails) I was blown away by how much easier it is to file-they came out looking pretty darn good! It’s not just the skill that is needed but the product can make a huge difference. I am obsessed with the cover blush. It’s so pretty!! All the mistakes I used to make have been corrected thanks to your videos. I have my prep down to almost 5 minutes and I’m almost decent at e-filing. You guys ROCK! I am so grateful for these videos! I live in the Caribbean, Barbados to be exact and in schools here you get to practise sets on fellow students and you actually have exams where you have to do a full set in a set time.
So maybe it is abit different depending where you learn. But with that said, I been out the nail game in alil while and I plan to start practising and build a clientele and hopefully using Young Nails if they are accessible here because I am thinking about distribution as well.
    One thing at a time.

I'm about to finish nail school and decided to do my first full set of acrylics on my sister. It took me 8.5 hours. Granted, she wanted all of them encapsulated w/ color acrylic, I was using odorless and I started to run out of product. By the end of it I didn't finish her thumbs but we opted for color acrylic with iridescent top coat. They turned out well but they started to lift after 10 days. It definitely taught me some things to do differently and to keep trying.

Took me 3 hours each hand. My cousin was so patient tho, she told me not to give up! :,D
I became really impatient in the process, I wanted to cry, I felt so stressed every time I look at the clock :/
At the end, even though I got bloody tired, I am happy! I actually loved the process, loved creating new and beautiful things, I loved the smile my cousin made when she first saw her nails, I felt joy and like my job was worth it. I thanked God I didn’t give up, and i’m looking forward for all the new things I’ll see and learn! :,)

Love this chat about time.I was makeing 4 hours a set ( after a lot of work still had brakage but not lifting☹). I did just for frends because I was so shy about it. After a year and a half just stopped makeing nails and if I think about to start again I have a panic attack.Feels so bad.I wish I can work it out some how because use to love to make nails , but didn't fined anybody where I live to teach cuting time. A lot of classes but most of them teach russian manicure and this is what takes so so long time before even start to build a set. On videos look so easy everything but in front of a client ..🤔Love you guys!!♥️

my first ever doing anything was a fill on my wife's nails im no tech or anything just by learning what I can by watching YN! the fill took 2hr and full set 4 hrs. I will get better since I told my wife she needs to take them off weekly so I can practice and give her new nails weekly... I am a novice carpenter so I prep for ever and I sand by hand or efile for ever I get in the zone instead of trying to be quick and I only use those sticky fingers so that takes a minute to place them just right on the finger, no nail tips. SHOUT OUT TO MY WIFE FOR BEING A SPORT AND PATIENT WITH MY NAIL HOBBY!

I've only worked on myself, but my first set took at least 4 hours. I can do it in less than two now if I'm being fancy, and around an hour for just a basic set of nude nails in either gel or acrylic. I really took the advice on not overthinking to heart. You can fix a lot with a file as long as the structure is there! I'll be doing my first set on another human soon and I can't wait to see how long it takes.

  • @raya74

This is why I love this channel you guys keep it real and its encouraging. I still struggle with time like many and I just do nails on myself so I kind of just take as much time as I want because there is really no pressure but when I'm up late trying to finish my nails and have to be up early the next day for work I lose out on sleep so this is something I really want to work on and improve. I think the biggest thing is not taking too long on prep as Tracey mentioned and also working on getting your structure right before you get into the designs because thats more important. Also, if you're doing your own nails its gonna take longer because you can't work on one hand while the other one is in the lamp so its ok to give yourself more time but on a client its a whole different story because nobody wants to sit there for 5 hours lol

My first set was poly gel with forms on myself, nearly 4 hours later. Then I took them off and did an acrylic set on myself nearly 5 hours. I’m only doing mine and my sisters nails every two weeks so fills are still taking 2-3 hours as I identify areas of shaping that need work and fixing defects. But I’m really enjoying it.

I do my own nails I'm still at 4-5 hour mark. I switched to using polygel which is quicker but the design takes up the time in the end. But I think with me it's the fact I can only do one hand at a time & I'm thorough with everything. I can't imagine doing nails on anyone else, they might be over me with the type of time frame.

It’s still like that for me I think primarily because I only do nails at home not for work. I’m looking into getting into a salon though to gain that speed with doing them over and over. This is important to talk about this because it can hinder new nail techs from continuing because you compare yourself to pros. But speed comes in time and repetitive practice.

Bullseye. You don’t go from 6 hrs down to 2-3 in a month. Just doesn’t happen unless you have no life and are able to practice all day? Rock on😆when you’re married or have kids, practicing still doesn’t cut down time so quick and what a vital topic! Not talked about enough, not nearly enough.

My first sets took me 6 hours and it’d be with my sister as practice. Now it’s 2-3 hours depending. My color acrylic still takes me longer. My fills don’t take much time unless they have a lot of lifting.

Whenever I go to the salon it seems like it goes by so fast. I’m almost disappointed because it’s like a little pampering escape. But I realize they have to work fast to see more clients

I'll be going to a school in the VERY near future (wish you guys had a school in Chicago! I'm a hands on type of learner, videos are great but I need just little extra). so like cuticle care, application of acrylic or gel???? Whats the best order??? HELP!!!

Sometimes I don't even want to do my nails cuz it takes so long but then I don't like going and having my nails done because they file my nails so thin that when they put the product on my my nail beds burn and then when I take the nails off they're all are all so thin so yes I do my own Nails it takes forever all day so I started doing one-handed at night second hand early in the morning so it didn't take me all day it only took me two hours to do the one hand day so two days I'm trying to teach my brain we're getting faster lol 😆 😆 lol

I couldn't tell you how long it took, for I don't remember. However I didn't know you can learn how to do nails on TH-cam, I went by memory of the steps my nail tech took to do my nails, which was yrs ago lol. I'll admit my nails weren't pretty a lot of hand filing. Now 6yrs later, I'm a nail tech and have grown

Oh. My first set. I really don’t remember it. But it was very long, about 5 hours.
Now I still do full set in 2-3 hours. Still I have 40-1hour I do prep. Idk, I overthink prepping, because my nails doesn’t stick. I hate it, so many time and money wasted searching my only one. When I will get one only, then I will make less time

My first set took 2 hours to do but including the take down of my mom's acrylic set without a drill brought it up to 3 hours.

I’ve been doing nails for a year now. I still struggle with time especially for a basic full color acrylic set it took me 3 hrs but my first time it was like 5-6 so I know I’m getting better. Let’s talk more about the difference in MMA & NO MMA. How do you know the difference? Would your body react differently or/& the brushes?

My set of nails today took me around 5 hours, and I cheated and used tips so I wouldn't have to really shape anything. I've been doing my nails for over a year lol.

My first set in nail school, circa 1983 I was using Super Nail Acrylic. Lord it took me 3 hours to create lava rock. It was horrifyingly ugly thick and yellowish. 2 sander bands and 2 nail files 1 buffing block and 5 coats of polish. I was proud.

I’d be interested in a video talking about what things to look for when researching what nail school to go to to get your license. I’ve been doing nails for myself and friends/family going on 18 months and I have a 5 year plan of opening an in-home salon. It’s very overwhelming trying to weed out the bad/ok/good schools in order to get licensed. Thoughts?!?
