Annoying thing my mail tech does/did: I make an appointment two weeks to a month in advance and they take a walk-in 10 minutes before my appointment time that I have NEVER ONCE missed, cancelled, or been late to and then I end up waiting for them to finish the walk in. So I started buying young nails products and doing my own nails.
I’m going to steal the idea of a chatty appointment. I’ll call it a Social appointment or a Spa appointment. Social for chatty nails, spa for relaxed silent with meditative music.
I love the idea of salons having the option to have a chatty experience vs a quite one! It’s really helpful for those with social anxiety and neurodiverses brains!
1. Arguing with me about the length I want! My goodness. I type all day, I like active length nails. Sometimes I just give in and get medium length because they wear me down lol
Girl yes! Then the making up excuses when they feel a little lazy. I had one tell me my nails were too long for dip or sns (I think that’s what it was called). It would use too much product. I literally had medium length nails 😒. I have never had super long nails. Such BS lol
First nail tech I went to back in the day, as soon as you sat in the chair she started talking about the woman who had her nails done just before me and would then go on to talk about the rest of the clients she had that day. She never had anything nice to say about her clients, I always wondered what she said about me after I left. If your hand was too stiff she would smack it with her file. Also, if you couldn't tip that day the next time you came in the quality of her work was much lower. However she is one if the main reasons I went to nail school though, so I am grateful for the experience. I still remember walking out of there one day and thinking "I bet I can do this. I bet I can do a better job then her. I bet I can be NICER then her." 3 months later I was in esthetician school. And the very first lesson was " DON'T GOSSIP ABOUT YOUR CLIENTS "
don't gossip about anyone for that matter! it just makes you look bad to all people, because if you're a gossiper that's what you'll do with everyone period.
I think I can remember a lot of techs starting to do that treatment when we reopened for the last time here in the uk someone called it ‘the silent treatment’ where a client would ask to book in to get their nails done and also ask for ‘the silent treatment’ so when they came in the tech wouldn’t really make any ‘small talk’ with the client and it would just be silent so there would be no stress! I thought this idea was absolutely amazing!!
This girl I used to work with told me her nail tech stopped in the middle of her service, went outside, fist fought a girl, and came back in and finished her nails. I was like 😳😂
SOMETIMES you gotta do what you gotta do....I hope she made her point though, you can't just show up to my job and think shits going to be okay NOT OKAY but...that shit cray lol
I play music and have a show on with no volume. I always start the conversation and if they want to continue to talk I’ll conversate. If they’re quiet I’ll ask questions here and there but I’ll zone out and work in peace lol.
You're not antisocial Tracey, you're just an introvert. Welcome lol. We have to prepare for social situations and we need time for recovery afterwards.
I offer tv Netflix appointments, for the busy people that need to catch up on their show it’s a silent appointment I even put the tv a little loud so they can really get into whatever it is their watching x
I don’t like it when my hair dresser, nail tech, etc. talks to their co-workers while they are working with me. To answer a question is fine, but to have a full on conversation is just rude. I paid for your service, please focus! I also can’t stand drama. I don’t care what so-and-so did to you. I really don’t care.
I agree with you on all of that, so rude to do that period, I've left good nail techs that have done that to me, ignore me and babble on and on with their co workers, because that rude as hell to me.
I quit as a client when the salon owner (who was my regular service provider) consistently took 4.5-5 hours to get me completed for a fill or a dip service WITH AN APPOINTMENT!!!! She was way busier than one person could handle but wouldn't hire additional staff.
I understand that sometimes service providers run a little behind. It happens, but chronic tardiness is not ok. At my last salon, I had a coworker who was always behind, and it gave me so much anxiety! I know they weren't my clients that had to wait, but it made me so anxious inside seeing them wait...sometimes up to an hour.
Annoying thing that the nail tech I saw last time did: Answering phone calls that aren’t simple. Playing podcast or videos on their phones while working 🤣 I cant see or hear... so I was nervous to talk because I felt like she was giving me “no talking” vibes 🥺
Love the idea of giving the client the choice of talking or not! How would you recommend pricing small art things like: encapsulating, stamping, glitter etc
The one thing that annoyed me from my nail tech was the over filing & heavy handed (applying too much pressure) on my thin/sensitive nails.😕 By the way Habib, you remind me/sound like my friend Drew. 😊 Sending positive vibes your way from L.A. ✌
I don't like it when nail techs are speaking a different language amongst each other. Then they laugh and look at you so it's like.... are you taking about me? That drives me nuts
I don't know if this is everywhere, but where I live we have foreign nail techs and they constantly speak their language. And as a heard of hearing/deaf person when they speak English, its very hard to understand them. And most annoying to add about them speaking their language (nothing against this), is when they are working. Sometimes I feel like they are being disrespectful because I hear that they often do that to complain about the client (talk about them). Could yall do another segment on this topic, and maybe touch on this maybe on better accommodating to your clientele if they may have a disability... please??
When a nail technician smacks my finger or hand when she wants it in the lamp or a finger gets in her way 😳 That’s the last time he or she touches me. My nail technician was amazing but his lease was up and moved his shop an hour away. I haven’t found a good one since and am now a TH-cam nail expert 🤣 My best job is about as good as a sub average salon job. I love buying YL products and then figuring out how much I’m saving with each fill. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with us non pros 😘
@@MrsNosbig I wouldn't pay a lot for a lamp. I did that, and then got a small cheap lamp (SUNmini) from amazon, and it's just a good a my expensive one. I also have one of the really little lamps, that look like a torch, that I just use of I have to fix one nail. I don't know what the Young Nail products are like, because I haven't tried them. The reviews I've read are good, though..x
Habib: Annoying things that nail techs do. Tracy equals nail tech. Annoying things that Tracy does. Math teacher: Beautiful example of the substitution property of equality. 😍 I love you guys. ❤
The most annoying experience I had was with a nail tech that kept hurting me with the nail drill and over filed my natural nail. Even though I kept telling her that it hurts. PS. Tracy could be an omnivert
Great video. I don’t have to worry about that anymore. I do my own nails. I love when the two of you are together. You both are so funny. I am a say what I think person. Sometimes it is not good but that is who I am.
when i have my own salon or practice i plan on offering appointments where i can garuntee no talking or anything. as someone with autism i can appreciate that cause sometimes you dont wanna talk or put up your mask all the time but you do wanna get your nails done so. i hope my future clients appreciate that. maybe provide earplugs for those with sensory issues.
I don't like when salon techs that don't dress decent for work. I've experienced a couple that look like they're wearing their pajamas and they have their friends at the shop too they're talking about all their personal business. So unprofessional
Lol, where do I start. I annoy people because I am quiet and let my clients relax. My coworkers dont trust that. When I get a chatterbox, she can go on and on. I hate it when nail techs tell people with short nail beds, "you have to grow that out!" Refering to pedicures.💗
When I use to go to the salon my nail tech would ALWAYS be on the phone. I let it slide bc it would be her worried about if her kid got home ok. He was a teenager and of course he wouldn’t call when he got home so she’d be worried and calling him and stressed WHILE attending me … like I understood but it was almost every single time. I just didn’t feel like she was focused on my nails so her stress, stressed me out. Eventually I switched bc she was also too busy that she would attend me late bc of other clients being late or taking long when I had an appointment.
you guys are awesome lol one thing that was annoying is when you know they talkng shit (body language and looks they give off) because you told them something, or instance it doesn't look right and they can get it right,, why did u say u can do it if you CANT do it, I would of gladly chose another look (theres millions) . or when they hurt you and they nod yes and say sorry ,and keep hurting you in the same spot intentionally or unINTENTIONALLY....IT HURTS! lol thats annoying. I literally stopped gettin my nails done because I felt like couldn't speak up on some of the things I didn't like with out feeling like I did something wrong, I'm paying shit load of money, MAY I SPEAK UP DAMMIT lol no, ill just buy my own shit and learn, mad respect to all nail techs out there who go above and beyond to NOT make there clients feel like shit and not take things personally when they are in the wrong.
Not one of my prouder moments, but one day, one of the educators at my old nail school who was notorious for creating hate and discontent with staff and students alike, ran up on me in the parking lot after school, literally screaming at me about something stupid and in a knee-jerk response, I laid her out cold. Oops. It created quite a huge mess in the gossip circle afterward and I hated it! I hated the way people were whispering and pointing, the girls were really friendly and sweet about everything, actually happy that someone had done what they had all secretly wanted to do, but still... and they were telling the clients!!! I think in-house gossip is probably one of the most annoying things that nail techs can possibly sink to. Even if it’s something that might be in their opinion, admirable. She’s expecting? Guess what? Not your business and not yours to tell! She’s getting married? Not your business and not yours to tell! Even the seemingly happy news may have consequences. That pregnancy may not be a wanted thing. That marriage news might get back to an ex who isn’t quite ready to move on. We can always find much better things to discuss amongst ourselves and with our clients. As for my incident with the educator? We both learned from that experience that day. She thinks if I was a few years younger I might have a career as a prize-fighter. I think that she will think twice about how she approaches people in parking lots in the future. 😂
I think (as a tech myself) it’s very stressing when your nailtech constantly says ‘relax your hand’. Even when you’re payng attention to relax and look away they sometimes almost rip your arm of🙈😂. If I had a client like that (and yes it is annoying) I would try to work around it.
The last salon I worked at FORCED us to ALWAYS be talking to clients or we were threatened to be fired. “Clients dont like silence” the employment agreement said… Personally , if Im getting something done half the experience is to be relaxed! I know I was probably very annoying forcing conversation when they clearly didnt want to talk but my boss was watching all the time…
Great video! You are late and the tech get mad but still doing someone nails for 30mins is so wrong. Happen to someone I know. Was that right or wrong?
They may have only taken that (walk-in) client bc their client was late... So i kinda understand that in that situation. If the nail tech is running late on their firsts clients nails into into ur apt then still has the audacity to get mad at u for being late, would be crazy...
When I went to my next salon, they were always nice and on time but they also spoke in their language between themselves. So for me I was always taught not to speak Spanish in front of people who don’t understand the language bc it’s disrespectful but I also understand why they would do it lol. Sometimes theirs things you want to say that might not be appropriate for customers to hear lol 🤷🏻♀️ like I said I didn’t mind bc they were always nice and remembered details about me if we talked.
When Tracy said "i packed her stuff for her" ...i was like👏👏👏👏 set boundaries, set expectations....if someone crosses over it repeatedly....byyyyyyyeeeee. i let a client go because of that. It sucks when you like the client but that shows me you dont value my time
1. Smacking their mouth like a cow while chewing gum. 2. Telling me the look, or color, I want is ugly. 3. Gossiping with coworkers. 4. Being loud/rude with customers on the phone and after hanging up they talk smack about the customer. Awkward when you’re a customer sitting in a chair! 5. Wearing a butt ton of perfume. 🤢
Honestly I don't mind the "non talking" clients because sometimes u just to be to "yourself" as ur getting pampered, so I get it. As long as they are not mad at the service is all I care about. At the Sometime, I like to be involved into my work anyway and want to enjoy my craft than having to break that connection to have to now pay attention to "random chatter." 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😊

When I was still getting my nails done, the tech being late always made me so irate (especially since the salon had a policy about being late). Also I'm not the type to be chatty so I don't really like small talk but I don't mind if the tech chats lol
YES!!!! My husband got me a 2 hour massage and I normally don't mind sometimes even love talking if I click with someone. Tracey is 100% introvert 🥰 I can say coz I am the same like what you said. It drains my energy after talking so much.

Is Traci from Reading PA?
You could call it the spa experience or the girlfriend experience

If possible, and it usually is?..I text clients to know if I am running more than 10 min late. Respect.

Just a small comment.... there is no such word as conversate. It's converse.
