    G'day from the UK. I worked out this Technic of using a blending clear like you do on my own before I saw your excellent vid. I can't take full credit because that's how we used to blend when I first started spraying in the late 70's when it was all cellulose. Back then metallics, even 2k when they came out were direct gloss. No clear coat back then. It was a fine balancing act to get the flake to lay flat and even with out floating about and tram lining, so you had to spray on the dry side one way and the other but wet enough so you got shine. You couldn't buff or colour sand much either because you went straight though to the metallic flake. Great fun on a respray I can tell ya!!

    Hmm never thought of using the 599 for blender. I never had a problem with blending anything with my Spies Hecker paint without it. Learned something new today.

    I thank you and am learning more from you then my own dad lol. And he worked for George Barris Custom Rods and helped build the Munsters Mobile and the Pink Panther cars and many others and I have pics to prove it. So naturally I am a decent painter and sorts. But I really appreciate all your tips. My dad never taught my much unless I asked. And I asked so much they muted me lol. Kinda shitty but whatever I'm stronger for it lol.

    Our manager quit last week so I have bigger shoes to fill so I've been watching a ton of your videos and Subcribed and gave a like but I'm still not an expert lol. I do all the color matching usually in gelcoat but our car painter guy said buy buy. I've done a few RV's and some bikes and a few cars but I'm getting all these silver and gold RV's in metallic's and the paint that comes never matches these days since covid layoff so I've been a learning lol. Luckily I'm decent at chemistry and pulled a rabbit out of a hat so to speak last week luckily.

    How will the color turn out if you put extra coat of pearl?let say white base with 2 pearl coat vs white base wif 1 pearl coat.will it produce diffrent color?

    Nice work for sure .. looked great ... just curious why you didn't start with the wet bed as step one .. I noticed you didn't put it on till you were ready to blend the pearl.. .. I know the white blends easier than the pearl .. just curious

    Bloody trouble Iv had trying to blend these 3 stage pearls, the Ford ST models with the bright green and orange are such a bugger to do that I turn them away now because I don't want the agro. It seems very critical to get the base colour just right and then not to put to much pearl over the top otherwise it totally fucks the colour or am I doing something wrong ? Either way when you are charging £90 a corner for a smart repair there is to much to go wrong so I find it's easier just to stick to straight or metallic colours.

Others do not indicate doing this. I have a small bumper repair and really want to get the tricky blend of the pearl right. Any help or tips are much appreciated. Thanks!

      It’s to make the base and pearl melt into the old paint more of a smoother transition so you do not see the blend

    Great video, got a MB with designo diamond white! Which the MB dealer failed in making nice repairs on (warranty thing) but also get these small chips in the paint from flying stones/ sand/studs - any chanse of repairing these by myself or using a professional, wihtout repainting the whole front? your result looks fantastic. • @orellisupplyl4178
    @orellisupplyl4178 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    So after your third coat of base (3:30 - 3:44) flashes off, you then take a gun with blending clear (if I'm using PPG that would be DBC500), and you put a coat of that over your final coat of base after the final coat of base flashes? Then, without really worrying about the blending clear flashing, you just hop on and do your mid coat? It confuses me if that's what you did, for the gun at 4:30 isn't the same as the gun at 9:30. I guess what I'm asking is, what did you do from 4:29 to 4:44?

    • @DIYApprentice
      @DIYApprentice 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what can tell, he applied blending clear from 4:29 to 4:44 to prep for the pearl coat blend.

      @@TheGunmanChannel They did this same exact repair on my car, spot matched the scratches and cleared the whole bumper. The problem is, the clear seems to have lessened the pearl effect to the point where it looks like 2 different panels. The painter said that the clear will lighten up in a few months and if it doesn't, then he'll try to match it. Is this true?

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@naughtysauce4323 it's an excuse, he just wants you to go away. He'll have another excuse next time. 3 stage pearls should be blended. You'll pay a bit more for the blends but you shouldn't see the colour difference after blended.

    • @naughtysauce4323
      @naughtysauce4323 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGunmanChannel So he should paint the entire bumper? He only did 2 little spots and then cleared the rest. The actual color is actually pretty good, but it just seems like the pearl effect is less than before. I'm going to wait a month then bring it back.

    Gunman! please help! I have a BMW 135i that unfortunately some asshat drove a shopping chart into the wheel arch in the quarter panel. I tried PDR but they didn't get it where I need it. it's about a 3-4 inch issue point no chipped paint but the dent is still there and its wavy/dimply. I found a highly rated body shop that said they can repaint just that section of the quarter panel and blend the paint.. its black sapphire mettalic.. can they really replicate the stock finish and make any color difference unseeable by human eyes? if they had some1 as skilled as yourself? this is killing me!

      The Gunman Hi Gunman, i am learning spray painting for living, i really need to ask few basic things which may be easy for you and others, whats is pressure required to use spray gun for color spray and clear? Kindly answer. Can you also please write list of things required to do small touch ups. Sorry i really need help and sorry for asking so many questions

      Ok so pressure settings will vary drasticly depending on what gun you are using but usually be around 20-25psi unless you are using a hvlp gun which requires more pressure about 27-29psi this is a great video Spray Painting For Beginners
