She'd learned from the best. When she was just one of the gorgeous Goldwyn Girls in MGM movies, she's spend her free time talking with the studio's greatest comedians, and learning from them. And she had no fear whatsoever of looking ridiculous. Unlike most actresses of the era, who insisted on always being glamorous.

@@StevenTorrey She was in good enough health to appear at the Oscars one month before her death and had made other appearances on other shows from 1985-1988. Don't think health precluded her from doing it.
@@MollyASMR127 No, she wasn't! Her last show, "Life with Lucy" was cancelled after only 8 episodes aired. Lucy's type of physical comedy that did not address serious life issues was from a bygone era. The Golden Girls featured older people but they were sexually active outside of marriage, and dealt with issues faced by aging Americans, such as difficulty finding employment, friendship, dating, & grief over losing loved ones, as well as general topics like addiction to prescription meds, homosexuality, & homelessness. Roseanne was in its second year, and that show dealt even more with serious issues faced by blue collar families raising children & struggling to make ends meet & it was #1 for several years. Both shows were hilarious & enormously popular. TV was changing.

People didn't want to see an elderly Ball & Gale Gordon (Vivian was dead) doing physical comedy. Lucy didn't like the changes in television. Her last show was so low in the ratings (#71 out of 74) that it was canceled after only 8 episodes. People didn't want to see an elderly Lucy & Gale Gordon (Vivian died in '79) doing physical comedy. Sitcoms like GG had so much sexual humor & sexual situations, etc. GG was ALSO about aging women, but it dealt with issues faced by aging women in the late '80s, including dating, sex, ageism, friendships, addiction, illness, & the loss of loved ones! Lucy didn't like the changes in television, particularly that sitcoms were increasingly focused on political & social issues. She thought comedy should just be comedy and sitcoms were for people to escape the real world, not a reminder of their own problems or politics or social issues. Let's face it,- Lucy's first 3 shows never made anyone THINK. They never made anyone cry. Her humor was a relic of the '50s & '60s.
Then 25 years later Bea Arthur did an autobiographical show on Broadway and said that working with Lucy on the movie "Mame" was the most humiliating experience of her life. Not nice.
OMG, no! Lucille Ball was the last of the 4 main characters in I Love Lucy to die. She died in 1989. The only surviving member of the cast, of course, is Keith Thibodeau, who played Little Ricky. Lucy Arnaz, Lucy & Desi's first child, is at least 72 now (2023).
I’ve never noticed how beautifully Bea moves, especially in the last segment.
I know, agreed. In Maude she was more elegant and in touch with her sexuality, in golden girls she wasn't, because Dororthy wasn't
