Im sure you're not, but I don't understand why. If its really a hassle, stick to the pattern you're most comfortable with.
I have a huge problem with it too, no matter how much I practice. I just do D-D-U-U-D-U pattern.
The same here. Helps when you watch it in slower motion. Also the ukulele teacher sounds way funnier.
I don't have a problem with strumming UNTIL I start singing and it's all off.

No matter how hard I freaking try I can never strum 😤 like I'm good with changing the notes and learning the chords but I can't strum and it irritating me... Grrrr
i know that feel, i recommend to you that practice your strum while he is playing too, i mean playing together :)
Try relax ur fingers and then use the tips of your knuckles to strum and you fingers and thumb (use more of your thumb) if you still struggle, pretend you are holding a pick

I would like to learn the song "Someone New" by Hozier. The song sounds like it could be played with some parts being picked and other parts being strummed. These are the kinds of songs I enjoy playing the most.

Mr. Ukulele Teacher thank you so much for your help in learning the Ukulele. I am progressing nicely. I would appreciate and I think many of us would, if you could explain the rhythm for this strum you use. The pattern is quite easy with some practice but the rhythm you use in the video is not just a simple (D,D,U,D,U,D,U) it is more complex with soft and harder strums and sounds like a delay when you raise your hand higher for a harder strum. Please help resolve this question many of us are facing as a problem to learning the song. Thank you
+DC Richi Maybe you can play the video at 0.5 speed to hear the pattern better. I think the pattern would be
d - D-u-d-u-D-u (the capitalized d's have a harder strum)

I suggest you play the strumming part at 0.75 or even 0.5 speed it makes understanding the pattern so much easier. Basically its dD /ud/uD/u the capital letter means he's strumming harder

If you want to play along with the recording you need barre chords because it is in the key of B. I recommend you Ukulele players out there to try to expand you skills a little bit and substitute the C for a B, the Dm for a C#m and the F for an E and bam, you can play along with it. If you have a capo throw it on the fourth fret and you can use the G, Am and C chords and play in the key of B as wells. Cheers and happy strumming.
ok Mr. advanced Ukelele player, NOT... Hello, some of us are beginners and need to start with basics like little kids.
suzette roberts I’m not saying don’t do this, I’m saying after you get the hang out it try and expand your skills. This is a great tutorial and John is a great teacher. I transpose a lot of my tutorials up or down a half step to make them easier as well. Still when you work hard at something and then you turn the song on and play with it it is good to know why it doesn’t sound good with the song. Not quite sure why that would make you so hostile. Try and lighten up a little bit.
