The thing is about the two characters Wallace and Gromit; Wallace is a cheese loving inventor and Gromit is Wallace’s closet companion. On an interesting note Wallace and Gromit’s popularity saved a cheese factory in Wensleydale, Yorkshire, England in which it happens to be Wallace’s favorite cheese is Wensleydale.

Yes! Aardman captured our hearts with their _Wallace and Gromit_ shorts, and then, this film truly showed the characters at their highest potential yet. I especially love how expressive Gromit is without sound or a mouth. Please check out their other projects.

fun fact! the original plan was for grommit to speak in the classic shorts... but when they shot the first sequence, they realised he said everything he needed too with just his brows and they left him mute ever since.

You have to do "Chicken Run" at some point. It's so heartfelt and so much fun. Also, fun fact: the song Gromit listens to on the radio is a song from the movie "Watership Down". It's an animated movie based on the book by Richard Adams. It's a little scary for young kids and it has a bittersweet ending, but it's worth the watch. That and "The Last Unicorn".

wallace and gromit is a british classic, I'd recommend the original shorts and the first movie just because they are kind of charming. Its sort of quiet and silly childhood fun though this was the first that goes full movie level with amazing scores and extra animation work.

Gromit is a dog. He’s like a super intelligent dig who helps out. He cleans up Wallaces messes when his machines or plans go wrong and often gets his back when it comes to stuff. Literally Man’s best friend. Wallace is usually aloof to things happening and it’s Gromit that notices the big stuff

In case you aren't aware of it, the song "Bright Eyes" that plays on the radio when Gromit first encounters the were-rabbit is from the movie "Watership Down", which is an animated movie featuring rabbits as its' protagonists.
Just in case you are interested because this sounds cute...... it is a very dramatic and partly brutal movie that is not afraid to go places. It is also a very good movie though.
I recommend it but do not expect a commedy or something meant for kids.
    It is not.

This is one of several great Aardman Animation projects done with Dreamworks! 😄 Aardman is an animation studio in England, and I’ve got such a big soft spot for their stuff. They also did Chicken Run, which you’ve heard me mention a time or two haha, and Flushed Away. Both great Aardman/Dreamworks pictures! Wallace and Gromit were actually some of their very first characters, which is why there’s so many shorts out there with then. And unfortunately the VERY day before this movie was released, the animation studio caught on fire and so much of the gorgeous handmade artistry you see here was lost. But they’re back in business! No longer in partnership with Dreamworks, but they’re still going strong!

    • @majkus
      @majkus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Don't call it 'Claymation' - that is a trademarked term created by the brilliant Wil Vinton (people of a certain age mostly remember him for dancing raisins). He was absolutely brilliant, and kind of a predecessor to Nick Park, but his clay animation was more fluid and sometimes surreal. See the Nome King's palace in "Return to Oz".
As a general term, 'clay animation' will serve, though these models are usually not exactly clay.

Fun and rather weird fact: the prize “melon” of Gromit’s is actually supposed to be a marrow, but the script was altered by Dreamworks, as they suspected that American kids wouldn’t know what a marrow was. This would’ve been reasonable, if they *hadn’t already animated the movie*.

So the other main projects with Wallace and Gromit that were made are actually short films each thirty minutes and three of which were made before the film and one after. They are
A Grand Day Out (nominated for Best Animated Short Oscar, but lost to another short by the same team)-1989,
The Wrong Trousers (won the Oscar for Best Animated Short),-1993,
A Close Shave (won the Oscar for Best Animated Short),-1995,
This film won the Oscar for Best Animated Film and did so over two other great films: Howl's Moving Castle and Corpse Bride. I Am glad this one won though.
A Matter of Loaf and Death (nominated for Best Animated Short Oscar),-2008,
Also the film wasn't made by DreamWorks they only distributed it. The film was made by a British studio named Aardman.

I absolutely LOVE this movie. I like clay and stop-motion animation...they're so unique even when computer animation is used with it, they always have this nostalgic look to them. The puppets also tend to have like...differt looks to them and don't tend to suffer from "same face" syndrome that CG falls into at times *coughDinseycough*. Like, I not not ALL CG looks the same but still...a lot of it tends to. Kinda like with a lot of anime you'd get same faces and same characters that are only distinguished by the color of their hair and eyes(and in case of some anime not even that)

Wallace and Gromit is so enjoyable! If you ever watch the shorts I'd absolutely love to see your reactions! The fact that only 4 30 minute shorts and 1 film have been made it's genuinely depressing that there isn't more. Since Peter Sallis (The voice of Wallace) passed away, Nick Park had been very hesitant to make another Wallace and Gromit project. However, since Ben Whitehead has gotten better at replicating Sallis's voice for Wallace, and the fact that a new project has been announced, there's hope for these two, and that makes me very happy!
Wallace is an inventor, he loves making contraptions, including the whole elaborate system to get out of bed, and his favorite food is cheese, hence why all the books have cheese puns.
No, Gromit isn't his slave or son, he's just his dog that doesn't act like a dog. Gromit was meant to speak occasionally as early as the first short, but his expressions in one scene convinced Nick Park to keep him silent.
Wallace has also had two other love interests besides Lady Tottington, but the general consensus is there she's the best one, because the others don't work for obvious reasons that I don't want to spoil should you watch the shorts, which I hope you do!
Fun fact, everything Hutch says is something Wallace either said earlier in the movie or from one of the three shorts made before the movie came out!
Also, could I recommend a movie called RANGO? It's a great movie that's overlooked and underappreciated.

Wallace and Gromit is a great small movie series. Glad u liked it.
Definitely watch/react to the other movies; A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, A Matter of Loaf and Death, and A Close Shave. All very good too.
Also excellent Dreamworks stop-motion films; Flushed Away and Chicken Run

Happy mate that you enjoyed the movie, and to help you out. There are the four Wallace & Gromit short films like A Grand Day Out in 1989, The Wrong Trousers in 1993, A Close Shave in 1995, and so far the current short film from 2009 A Matter of Loaf and Death. There is a new Wallace & Gromit movie coming in 2024 for NETFLIX, so be looking forward to that soon. All of them are great, and you should check out Aardman's other films like the big one Chicken Run.

So, the rest of the Wallace and Gromit films aren’t exactly films perse, more like episodes of a tv show. There are four of them, and they’re all 30 minutes long each. In order, they are:
    - A Grand Day Out
    - The Wrong Trousers
    - A Close Shave
    - (Were-Rabbit)
    - A Matter of Loaf And Death
There are loads of other stop motion Aardman films that I think would be really cool to check out as well. Hope you can get around to them at some point!

I was never a huge fan of Wallace and Gromit. I like Shawn the Sheep more. But nobody can deny the genius of it. Gromit is simply the best. Takes a lot of talent to give so much personality to someone that doesn't make a sound, or has a mouth for that matter.

Also if you are ok with a mostly-dialogue free movie you should chekc out "The Shaun the Sheep" movie. It's based of a children's tv show, that was itself a spin-off of the Wallace and Gromit short film "A Close Shave". But the movie stands alone in its own right as a very sweet and heartfelt story.
