    Thank you VERY MUCH for being he only one able to clearly explain in simple terms how to do this. Please remember, some of us are NOT "techy" and I have a learning disorder myself, so keep in mind to assume we don't know simple part terms/names. In future videos make sure all your words are clear and that your screen in easy to see without glare. There was a part I didn't clearly see and ear at first. Thank you again for your help.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This WiFi extender won't improve cellular signal from an Android phone, but will allow you to connect with a WiFi router from farther away from the main unit as the extender will repeat its signal.

    Hi, I purchased this exact same (looking) model, just a different Brand. My cable modem is then plugged into the motherboard ethernet of the Desktop Windows 10 PC, that has a PCIe WIFI card. I was getting no WIFI in my kitchen/back door/patio areas, so I bought this "extender". I followed all directions, but it took me 3 days to get it to work, with numerous failed attempts. I then realized that I had to SHARE the Ethernet connection with the WIFI card, then this repeater was visible to the Network. I used the PC to go to the .URL IP, I then filled out the name & password info.
    The Power and WIFI lights are on, but not the "extender" or LAN lights. It works fine to magnify/amplify the WIFI signal, that now easily reached the intended areas, so I can use the WIFI for my phone, without using DATA minutes (TracFone), and my WIFI security cam works great, too.
    It still makes me wonder- is it ok that the "extender" light isn't on? Is this hooked up correctly, or is it just working by chance?
    Thank you for your response.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Based on your explanation, it sounds like you're using your PC as a WiFi bridge to the extender. That is, you have your wired signal from the modem going into your desktop's Ethernet port, then you are sharing that connection with the desktop's WiFi card, and then connecting to the extender using the desktop's WiFi signal. In this setup, the "extender" is acting as a primary WiFi router, and not as an extension of an existing WiFi network (so the extender LED won't light up); this would explain why you can still connect to it and access the shared internet connection without the LED lit.

      @@ReviewedByPhil EXACTLY!
      Also, I had to chat with Amazon today- this "extender" worked correctly for about 3 days, then it's Firmware got corrupted, it's capacitor has failed. I dared to shut off my PC last night, 6 hours later I woke to a dead unit; it can't remember it's SSID, it won't connect automatically (even though box is checked) and the IPV6 is sporadic. Amazon put me in touch with the 3rd party Seller, to either replace or refund. It also came with a $20 Amazon gift card, that I had to review this product to receive, but never received. I guess $39 USD is gone. I've picked out a more reputable NetGear unit, will get next month, $40 USD.
      I am giving this company one more chance to make this right. The reset URL worked once for initial setup, but the device's RESET port just clicks with a pin, and does nothing, even holding in for 5 minutes.
      When it randomly fails, I must unplug it, wait >1 hour, then it will broadcast it's SSID, but the network is always "unidentified".
      I guess I won't shut down my PC 😮‍💨

      Hi, it sounds like you are trying to connect to the extender's WiFi network SSID... on your phone/computer? When you say you had to enter the SSID, does this mean that you had to manually type the SSID name into your WiFi settings to attempt to connect because it doesn't show up at all? Or does it appear in the existing/nearby WiFi networks list when you enter your device's WiFi settings, but you can't connect to it once you've selected it and entered the password (usually printed on the back of the plug-in unit, see 0:46).

    I am sitting here trying to find a replacement for my extender that I have now. I have had it for 4 years and it's done a fair job. I'm not able to stream movies with out the buffering coming up so many times when I am watching movies off sights that have less then processer.for example amazon prime plays movies and I have no problems streaming there stuff but others a different story. The extender there looks like the product nextFi they claim to have unbelievable amount of down load speeds using there product they say it covers a wide area even to the out side. The extender that all of you have the 5 home extender or something like that is built and made the same as nextFi so like the store sears puts there name on refrigerators who are actually made by whirlpool or GE sears sell the same product but doesn't even make it. Does this home 5 extender do things I have said the next fi does? Does it cover up to going outside the doors of your home and you still have 5 bars? Do you get 320 down load speeds? Im curious because I have to buy one and I don't want to buy something that is gonna give me just a little bit of a boost and I still can't stream. I watch adult movies and when the buffering starts while watching there is no happy ending. So I feel frustrated and I play with my extender to try getting to work better. So please let me know I don't have a Little blue pill for my extender to take to stay fast and hard. I can only say AT&T sucks and I wish I had comcast. There internet service rocks like Mac Dre.

      If the extender is connected to your network and it's still flashing green and orange it means that the signal it's receiving isn't very strong. For the light to be a solid green, simply move it to an outlet closer to the router it's trying to connect to.

      Hm, try temporarily setting up the extender from an outlet close to the router first. Once it makes the connection via WPS, you can move the extender to another outlet in other room but still within range of the router. Everytime there is power outage/brownout, I kept on repeating the whole setup process from extender to the devices connected to the extender which is kinda hassle. Is there any tips you can share here like a short cut to have the extender and devices to just automatically connected to the router? Unlike with the router, when there power outage, other devices like TV, mobile, tablets etc that are connected to the router automatically just reconnected and no need to set-up. I hope the extender works the same way.

      Perhaps you have a different version of the device where the lights are supposed to be blue and do not change to green? My unit does not display any blue lights, which is why I believe your model to be slightly different. When you plug the unit in, are you able to pair it with your router by pressing the WPS button on the front of the extender and the WPS button on your router (if present)?

      No, the Inseego MiFi M2100 is dual-band, so this particular extender would only be able to repeat the lower speed bandwidth (2.4 GHz). Hm, you may have to completely reset the unit. Maybe then it will accept the default password. With the unit plugged in, use the reset pin tool to press the reset button and hold for 5-10 seconds until the lights on the unit flash. This should wipe the current password and reset it to 'admin'. Try connecting to it again by selecting the WiFi network name on the back of the unit, go to the default IP address shown on the back and use 'admin' as the password (see 1:29).

      If you have three lights on and the extender light is off, does that mean you have the LAN cable plugged in to your laptop/computer? If so then yes, the extender is working properly and is responsible for the boost in your connection speed. The extender light will only be on when it is broadcasting a "new" WiFi network (with a different name than your primary WiFi network) and you're connected to that new network. If you're not using that feature, the LAN/ethernet cable for plugging directly into the device will work without it.

      @ReviewedByPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, when in extension mode, the WiFi network name will be the same as the host router's name. If you're not seeing the host router's WiFi network name, it's possible the area in which you placed the extender does not have adequate signal strength from your original router; try moving the extender closer to the router and try again.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jacob Hertz Ok. So, when the extender is unplugged, you cannot see your router's WiFi network name? You're saying that when you plug the extender in the primary router's network name disappears? I'm asking because when the device is connected to your network using the WPS buttons, the network name is the same as your WiFi router's, so you will not see two different network names, only the network name of your router (see 1:21).
      You'll only see the extender's network name (printed on the back) if it is in setup mode and not currently connected to a network, but you indicated the extender light was "green" so it sounds like you already set it up using WPS button. If you want to see the extender's network name, reset the unit by using the reset pin in the hole on the bottom while the unit is plugged in, then make sure the extender light is off (see 1:31) and proceed to look for the network name printed on the back of the unit.

      It sounds like you're saying that you've successfully connected your router to the WiFi extender, is that right? Using the WPS button method? And when you browse to the IP address shown on your device as shown at 1:46, you're not able to login to the administration page? If so, it's possible the unit needs to be factory reset back to the default password. To do so, use a pin to press on the reset button for several seconds while the device is plugged in (see 0:44) and you should see the lights on the front flash to confirm the settings were reset. Then try going through the setup steps again.

      @@ReviewedByPhil Hey, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how to best describe this. Neither my router nor the extender have WPS buttons so I'm doing this on my computer. I reset the extender (at every attempt) after plugging it in to an outlet near the router. The extender light is solid green. I choose the SSID for the extender from the wifi list and sign in to the set-up page. I choose the home wifi router and check the password. I then choose a different password for the extender which is already id'd as PRO. The extender light never lights up again although the wifi list shows a good signal and says it is connected. So how you I put the extenders IP address in my web browsers . How exactly do I do ?

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the URL address bar of your browser, where you would normally type the URL/webpage address (e.g. www.gmail.com) type the IP address shown on the back of the unit, all the numbers with the periods e.g. 192.168.181.1

    Do u receive the same Internet speed from the host router? 🥺

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  ปีที่แล้ว

      It will depend on the max bandwidth you get from your ISP, how far from the host router you are, and how many hops away (if using multiple APs in between). Note that the extender in this video is only rated to Up to 300 Mbit/s, so even if your host router can provide faster speeds, the extender could be a bottleneck. Generally there is some loss of speed the farther distance and more nodes are in your extended network as well. I will say that the connection is adequate, considering there was a dead spot or very weak signal in the targeted areas prior to adding the extender.

    My unit does not have complete wifi information. It reads: SSID: wifi-xxxx

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, even so, you should probably be able to determine which network belongs to the extender via the process of elimination. The 'xxxx' represents a random set of characters assigned to your specific unit. It'll be unlikely there are many, if any, other networks in your range that will have the same leading characters ("wifi-") in its SSID.

    DHCP lookup failed. I keep getting this when I try to connect anything. The extender light is not on. It will not let me go back into 192.168.188.1 even after I put the pin in to reset it. It keeps saying a network change was detected. Please help!

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, sorry I'm not sure. It could be due to some settings in your primary router. In order to fully reset the unit, you have to have it plugged in and insert the reset pin into the reset hole and press the button inside for 8-10 seconds. A short press will just "soft reset" the unit (power cycle on/off) while a long press will clear the settings and return to factory default.
