- A little information before you read the info:
The Lied der Deutschen is not forbidden, neither the first nor any other verse of it!!! It´s a myth many people believe in. The part:
"Deutschland über alles" doesn´t mean that Germany stands above other nations, you have to see it in the context of the time in 1841.
Germany wasn´t an united nation, but a collection of many states and an united fatherland was meant to be above any other political goal of that time. If you continue to listen to the next lines you will see, the author doesn´t want war, violence or superiority against other nations. He demands noble deeds, to be proud of the own culture, women and freedom etc.
To me it is a lovely song and I wished all 3 verses would be sung.
The "Deutschlandlied" (English: "Song of Germany", German pronunciation: [ˈdɔʏtʃlantˌliːt]; also known as "Das Lied der Deutschen", or "The Song of the Germans"), or part of it, has been the national anthem of Germany since 1922, except in East Germany, whose anthem was "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" ("Risen from Ruins") from 1949 to 1990.
Since World War II and the fall of Nazi Germany, only the third stanza has been used as the national anthem. The stanza's beginning, "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" ("Unity and Justice and Freedom") is considered the unofficial national motto of Germany, and is inscribed on modern German Army belt buckles and the rims of some German coins.
The music is the hymn "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser", written in 1797 by the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn as an anthem for the birthday of Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and later of Austria. In 1841, the German linguist and poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben wrote the lyrics of "Das Lied der Deutschen" as a new text for that music, counterposing the national unification of Germany to the eulogy of a monarch, lyrics that were considered revolutionary at the time.
The song is also well known by the beginning and refrain of the first stanza, "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" ("Germany, Germany above all else"), but this has never been its title. The line "Germany, Germany above all else" meant that the most important goal of 19th-century German liberal revolutionaries should be a unified Germany which would overcome loyalties to the local kingdoms, principalities, duchies and palatines (Kleinstaaterei) of then-fragmented Germany. Along with the flag of Germany, it was one of the symbols of the March Revolution of 1848.
In order to endorse its republican and liberal tradition, the song was chosen as the national anthem of Germany in 1922, during the Weimar Republic. West Germany adopted the "Deutschlandlied" as its official national anthem in 1952 for similar reasons, with only the third stanza sung on official occasions. Upon German reunification in 1990, only the third stanza was confirmed as the national anthem.

It’s a good song, any idea why the Federal Republic of Germany changed the lyrics? Seemed like the perfect song to celebrate a finally unified Germany.
@@ckr3167 because the first verse talks about the boundaries of Germany which includes parts of Poland, Denmark, Lithuania etc. You can imagine that after the second world war it didn't look like a great idea to include this part. This what all of the right wingers who continue to only focus on the „Deutschland über alles“ part don't mention. Hope I could help you :D

Als Wiener und damit ebenso Deutscher liebe Österreicher und unsere Brüder in der BRD. Ich find es so schade dass viele Österreicher sauer auf Deutschland sind aufgrund der Melodie der Hymne, jedoch finde ich dass es schön ist dass diese Melodie das Deutsche an sich präsentiert. Österreich sollte auch diese Melodie anwenden als hymne oder meinen Lieblingsmarsch: Habsburg hoch. Ich kann nur sagen, für mich geht mein Deutschtum über alles

It has an amazing culture, beautiful landscapes and an interesting history (particularly interested in WW2, yes, I know the Third Reich was evil).

I can kinda agree, but the part about "From the Meuse to the Memel, from the Etsch to the Belt"-part can be removed, as Germany nowadays has no territorial ambitions to expand. The part about "German loyalty" can also be removed. "Deutsche frauen" could also be changed since it's a bit... not exactly sexist, but it's a bit patronizing.

Polen und Russland haben uns im gesamten 20. Jahrhundert alles andere unterstützt, ganz im Gegenteil. Auch heute sehe ich von staatlicher Seite keine Hilfe für Deutschland. Der polnische Staat ist seit seiner Wiedergründung nach dem 1.WK anti-deutsch verfasst und ausgerichtet und daran hat sie bis heute nichts grundlegend geändert.
Heute kommt erschwerend das Problem hinzu, dass der eigene Staat (BRD) selbst anti-deutsch verfasst ist und eine anti-deutsche Politik verfolgt.
Gleichwohl glaube ich schon, dass es auf individueller Ebene gute, aufrechte Menschen in Polen und Russland gibt.

I loved how you showed every part of Deutschland’s history it doesn’t matter what era you were living in modern or old doesn’t matter if you were fighting for your homeland and Kaiser, or forced to fight for the Third Reich, or fighting as a crusader, or fighting to see your family back home. Deutschland has had a rough past and there is no forgetting that. But for all the fighting that has occurred in its history it all led to this beautiful nation where “Unity And Justice And Freedom” is achieved. But I guess the lesson of this is no matter the bad times in your nations past, there is always some good.

Germany wasn´t an united nation, but a collection of many states and an united fatherland was meant to be above any other political goal of that time. If you continue to listen to the next lines you will see, the author doesn´t want war, violence or superiority against other nations. He demands noble deeds, to be proud of the own culture, women and freedom etc.
what i believe to be the short way to say it: a united germany should be the main focus of the german people
Das Lied der Deutschen is not forbidden, but why is only the third verse the national anthem of Germany? They should use all of it, just like the Weimar Republic did.
Because the politicians decided so after ww2 :/
@@dr.ludwig I thought it was Chancellor Helmut Kohl who made the decision to only use the third verse when Germany was reunited in 1990. I don't know if this is true or not, but before Germany was reunited, West Germany, at least, used all three verses as its national anthem.
