    I personally don't care if a weapon on my hip makes other people nervous. They should be carrying as well, as a matter of fact I'm more comfortable around a stranger if he is carrying at the ready like I think an intelligent man should out in the boonies. In the city I'm more discreet and conceal carry.

      @r.jacksonmacready3879 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Fortunately, I live in a Constitutional Carry state where open carry is also allowed. So it's not unusual to see people with a variety of firearms in plain sight, although hip carry is probably the most common.
      I don't think most people even pay attention to someone carrying a firearm. Maybe if you're in a large city they might.
      My EDC is a S&W M&P40 Compact, which I keep concealed. Mostly from the perspective of, if a bad guy is going to do anything, it's going to be "take out the good guy carrying."

    Thanks, a scensable bit of advice. I work on a small farm here in Namibia. I carry all day, every day. Just a little 38 snubnose revolver. I carry it 4 O'clock in a IWB holster stuffed between my jeans and belt. Most of the time I forget it is there, but I know just where it is. When I go to town it rides in the same place in the same holster, but inside my pants. A loose shirt or jacket over it, the gun does not bother any one. God speed.

    You haven't met enough homesteaders in northern AZ. They're all carrying, but you won't often see it. When so many people show up unannounced these days (FedEx, UPS, Amazon, etc), they don't want everyone knowing what they've got on them (same reason you probably conceal in town, except now they know where you live).

    I carry a Taurus Gaucho revolver in my pickup glove box (74' F250) and it sits inside an old Hunter holster I can quickly snap on my belt, it's always loaded and I have a box of shells for backup. I just go from home to work out on a farm and into the grocery store in town once a week. I live in a very rural area and don't need something on me constantly but it's nice to have in my truck.

    I carry appendix and train with a tucked-in tshirt, with a looser, casual, button-down shirt over it. I rarely get hot or uncomfortable in the summer. Also, when driving, I place the seat belt between my firearm and body. It is never in the way.
    For context, I have a "slim-ish" body build at 5'7" 163lbs.
    I live in a metro area. If i go out to the countryside, i open carry on my hip. Train both ways.

    • @MrHoghead
      @MrHoghead 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @piratecat990 I would encourage you to put the seat belt over the holster, not between you and the holster. Tucking it behind the holster makes the seatbel ride up higher than "normal", and can/will cause severe injury if you're ever in a collision or wreck. If it's over the holster, it still allows the belt to sit down lower where it's supposed to ride. Yes, you'll get some major bruising from the holster if something happens, but its still safer than the belt sitting up above your waist

    I do the same exact thing with a pistol. Only difference is I wear a button up long sleeve shirt. Some times a revolver, some times a Glock. I’m a ranch hand on a cattle ranch that’s in South Texas. We have a homestead about 30 miles north of that. I carry a bolt gun on the dash for predators and varmints. There’s an AR in the back seat because we’re close to the border and I find illegal sign a lot.

    My Favorite EDC Holster for working around the property is the old Glock Combat Tupperware. The Polymer Holsters and Mag Pouches that are worn on the belt. I usually carry a Glock 19 or Glock 26, occasionally my Glock 30S. You can put the holster on your belt and it's out of the way and you never know it's there. I get out of my Truck or go on foot, and I put the pistol in the holster. It snaps in and is reasonably retained, similar to most Kydex Holsters. I usually carry at least one reload, so a G17 Mag stays in the Pouch on the opposite side. I can use it in the G19 or G26.
    Another handy Accessory I keep near my bed, is my "Oh Sh*t Bag". It's a small shoulder bag with a Pistol, Folding Knife, Flashlight, that I can throw across my body when things go bump in the night or I hear livestock raising hell outside, and I'm in my Gym Shorts. There is a pair of Rubber Boots by the door that I can step into before I go outside.

  • @Pingledore
    @Pingledore 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I'm 5'6", 150lbs, and I EDC a 1911 in .45 ACP at the 3 in a Safariland hip holster around town and on the homestead, but when I'm headed into the city it's usually concealed and in the front.
    Honestly, I print a little, sometimes, especially if you're really lookin', but I don't think most people pay another much mind. People got shit to do. Ain't no one got time to be checking out lines around my beltline.
    That said, I've seen the look on people's faces when they see me carry openly or forget to slide the chest covers down, and it's usually a brief look of slight surprise quickly changing into one of, "Oh, that makes sense; he's tiny."

    Its interesting to me how alot of vets will say so many things are flat range theatrics. He said practicing drawing in 1.2 seconds is a flat range instagram guy thing. Thats something that is widely known to be effective training for civilians with a ccw, whether from footage of police or civilian shootings or stories and studies of them a fast draw is a requirment. You can comment on cool guy tactical reloads with a ccw being a range theatric but calling someone who trains to draw his gun in a second or under isnt a flat range ninja he is just better trained than you with a pistol.

  • @effeojnedib7208
    @effeojnedib7208 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I carry IWB, so always have an undershirt on for comfort. Carry on the left side (my weak side), because there is as much a chance of having to draw while buckled in the drivers seat, as not, and saves from having to fumble with a seat belt buckle. Also, when a rifle is slung over my right shoulder, it doesn't bang against my concealed piece. Ain't got to modify my concealed piece position in order to accommodate a rifle. Also carry my knives in the same position every day.
    Most importantly, practice shooting left handed, switching to right hand. And when I'm practicing draws and double tap, I do some jumping jacks to get the blood flowing, before drawing. Best to practice from all possible standing and seated positions. Having worked in prisons, bounced in bars etc... one never knows when and where trouble might come from.

    I’ve carried all different ways. I’m a recent convert to appendix carry. It took me a while to get comfortable with the safety aspects of it, but I’m good at this point. I’ve shot competition and have a ton of reps in live fire. I find appendix preferable in more crowded settings for access to the weapon and control. But, in a homestead setting I would carry OWB at 3 o’clock every time. IWB isn’t comfortable when you’re moving into different positions and doing physical labor. And speed is less of a priority than simply having a gun. So, do what you’re comfortable with for the situation you’re in at the time.

    Good stuff, personally where I am, I carry strong side, outside the waistband 24/7. In town, out of town, on the homestead, and in the woods. That's how I'm most comfortable, has nothing to do with being intimidating or standoff ish or anything else. If encountering people I dont know I simply change my stance and 99 percent of the time they dont even notice. I don't carry small guns for the most part, the smallest I carry is typically a glock 19 or glock 45 in a safariland holster. I also have been known to carry 45 colt single action armies, yet again, not small but it's been a none issue for me. Carry what you want, know your capabilities, and most importantly.... PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Not just shooting either, but your draw and reholstering aswell, its just as important.

    Enjoyed the video and the common sense take. Live on a homestead myself. Typically carrying a j frame on my hip or in a pocket. Like you said, appendix is in the way doing any kind of normal everyday activity for me and bigger semi autos just aren't that comfortable doing farm stuff.

    gotta disagree on appendix carry. i've been carrying appendix carry before it was cool. started in the 80's.
    carried every day with it. rain or shine, working and leisure. "working" meaning labor jobs, off time while i was in the military, camping, in a vehicle out of a vehicle. etc. 100%

    Key word……. TRAIN. Go out and put the reps in with whatever way you decide to carry. Practice drawing from different positions with threats coming from different angles…. Get that work in.

    the main thing here is setting. Urban vs Country. one who lives in an urban area, pretty much has to conceal carry in the appendix position. its just the safest way to do it. i live in the city and carry appendix iwb in the city, but anytime im out in the mountains or country, i 3' OWB just like you. it just depends on the scenario.

      In the city I normally carry 4 OWB with a cover garment. I like tucking in my shirts and appendix carry is just uncomfortable when sitting even though I'm not fat.

    People over complicate things and too many don’t understand that personal experience and opinion isn’t necessarily fact. As long as it’s safe and effective, do it. I prefer my blicky on my 330.

    I honestly don't know how Mexican carry got on the scale. Gave it a different name and now its rad. Ya your right about them holsters, don't need level 2 , 3 for everything or hardly at all really. Retention holster is great enough

    A person's size can dictate how they carry. I'm 5' 9" with a 42" chest and a 32" waist, so I can OWB at the 2 - 3 o'clock with minimal printing. I do find carrying appendix with a button up work shirt is easier to draw, for me. probably 1/3 of CCW/CHP holders carry and probably 1/3rd of them train. I have heard many say " just showing a gun will cause the bad guy to flee", that type of thinking will get you killed. I have drawn a handgun in defense of my self 4 times. Once on my property due to a poacher, twice while working (tradesman) and once out with friends. Even with training, I got tunnel vision the first few times, by the 3rd time my brain was able to push through the adrenalin rush

    The best concealed carry pistol is the one you will have on you every day. I wear a Glock 22 with a full duty load in a Bravo Concealment holster and dual mag holder. I use the pancake loops and set them to ride as high as possible on my belt. It’s the most concealable holster setup for a full sized pistol. Comfort wise on a scale of 1-10 (10 most comfortable) it’s about a 7…probably due to the sheer weight of the pistol. Your hip/side breaks in though just like you break your feet into your boots 🤣🍻👍🏻
