I met David in what a think was a hotel foyer (strangely in my mind it was upstairs) when he was showing this instrument at trade fairs, I was fascinated and David was very kind even though I was only about 14 he took the time to explain things to me, I hope he's still well, going check now.. Just checked, although there's very little on the web, I found he is still listed as a member of White noise, as opposed to a past member, which seems positive :o)
I wonder if you could say a Haken Continuum Fingerboard is the modern version of this ? I would say this is a Mpe of the 70s . Also they dont mention the other star and that is the EMS VCS 3 .
I adore this!! His music and An Electric Storm are genius. Also, his sweater at 1:26 is quite seriously the best thing I've ever seen. I need to know where I can get one like that
😳 That is a quite an.... ...... interesting.... design you came up with. You sure do look like you're enjoying those chromatic runs up and down the ..... neck
As far as I am aware, they were made by an old chap who I think (?) made something along the lines of carbon paper and it turned out that this stuff had a good linear resistance. Sadly he took his ‘secret’ to his grave. The subsequent strings were made at a substantially higher cost by French Areospace. We are currently exploring new alternatives for the new model we are currently developing. Hope that helps?
This is actually the Moog ribbon controller idea multiplied 4 times on the same stick. The rest is analog synth sound generation. In 1976 the Moog modular was on the market since the early 60's. But this video is amusing ! 4 voices polyphony !
The John Holmes of synthesizer players
Oh my god, I was sure there was something funny to say about that. You nailed it.😂
listen to this guy's phallus!
amazing video!
where could I get one of those "strings"?
Idgaf if it looks silly. This is *still* really neat, and a cool look at synthesiser ideas from the 70s.
So Rock On, Mighty Synth Dong!
Strange phallic contraption - and sounds really great!
It would have been perfect if he had made the same instrument but with a length of 8 inches.

Not sure I’d describe it as “subtle” 🤭
How did I miss this? Amazing!!! 😀
Holy crap/this is insane-from one of the best synth recordings ever!
I sometimes drop speed and going to the local Smurf disco where they play this regularly
“Very cheap” if you don’t include the 4 oscillator polyphonic synth making the actual sounds that surely cost several thousand 1970s’ £s
What is the point of the sex offenderds register if David Vorhaus isnt the very first name on it?

Careful, you'll put someone's eye out with that thing.

Wrong.
Seems such a nice guy to me. Look at that expression in his eyes. This is also the man from "black mass" though....

unbelivable i want one now...where can i find it.. help me...now...please...
OK, somebody needs to tell me what kind of "cheap" conductive ribbons he used.

The best noise.
Great, just great. The Eigenharp’s origins :-)
Always think with your D not with your brain 🧠
Find myself insanely attracted to the sounds it makes. Thanks so much for posting.
Me too dear friend 😍
It isn't making any sound. It's just a controller for the EMS VCS3 (Putney).
You must listen to the album...
That is amazing!
