Once again, TH-cam to the rescue. My OBD port and ScanGauge went dead and I knew there had to be a simple answer, rather than take to mechanic and spend $$$$. The 15amp fuse was in fact the culprit.
yay for this help!!!! local wretched chevy dealer told me 'obd2 port and harness both ' needed replacement and wanted to charge me $$$$$ to REPLACE ENGINE HARNESS !! when it was a bad 15 amp fuse worth about 20 cents.
Excellent. I just found my obd dead today, and the lighter stopped working the other day. I hope the fuse is in a similar spot lol, one of the inside fuse box lighter fuses wasn’t blown, didn’t have time to go into the engine bay box yet. Thanks for the video.
Wow! Thanks. This was the problem on my 2005 Denali. Never would have checked until I saw this video. I have a different scan tool, and couldn't figure out why it wasn't connecting. Thank YOU!
So helpful man thank you so much, I wish there was more videos like this where they actually tell you how to fix it I was looking for a week and didn’t even think to check fuses.
Thank you so much! I have the exact same scanner and my friend and I went to look at a car today (Yukon Denali too). Plugged it up and it wasn't turning on. Happened to google "obd2 gmc not working" and your video was the first one to come up. I watched the video, and the seller goes "now that you mention it, the cigarette lighter port hasn't worked since I got it". Sure enough, fuse blown. Replaced it. The scanner worked, and luckily it was only a couple of minor problems. This video really saved us. We may not have bought the car if I hadn't been able to see this.
Awesome, I'm glad it worked out for you! My Yukon had some melted cables leading up to the cigarette lighter (maybe someone plugged in a power-sucking inverter or something?), which was causing my problems.
Never go back to that inspection location again. My yukon blows this fuse constantly (along with the seat fuses and other wiring issues) and the shop I take it to swaps out the fuse every time no extra charge! But now I have a check engine light and couldn't find a obd2 on the diagram. Thank you for saving me probably hours of headache! TH-cam is the best! 46,009 views in almost 4 years.. These yukon denalis are junk!!! Ok well maybe they're not that bad.. I love the engine in mine anyway!
Hey, why do you think I made this video? This fuse and its association with the OBD2 isn't very intuitive at all. I also love the power and growl of that 6 liter engine, they have their merits. :)
That's Exactly what was up with my 06 Denali. In fact there was a 10amp fuse there should have been a 15amp. So.... This Vid was Spot on and my Check engine light went off too.
Wow this was exactly what it was with my suburban and I was so lucky I found a box of fuses and fuse puller and had it sitting in my cupholder. I had this fixed in 30 seconds XD
It's really common for that fuse to blow because pennies/dimes drop into cigarette lighter hole by ashtray and short that circuit. Don't use a larger fuse or you risk burning up the wire harness when you drop another penny in the cigarette lighter hole...
Same with mine, I think the previous owner had ran a power inverter too hot and melted the connecting wires. I'd never cared because there are 5 cigarette lighters within reach of the driver, but yeah mine works now. :)
Dam ,the one in my console literally melted, and I failed inspection, last year and never took it back, lol so riding with a rejected sticker ever since, cause the dmv are still crazy! But I'm about to change all fuses in my yukon!!!
In my case I believe the previous owner plugged a powerful inverter into the cigarette lighter and melted the wires together. I saw the melted wires when I was replacing the stereo system.
PLEASE HELP ME! I put a jumper(paperclip) between #4 and #8 on the OBD2 on my 03 cadillac seville to program a new key fob, and since mine didn't have an 8 I decided to try #7(dumb move) now my Trunk/fuel door bottons dont work and just realized today that My OBD2 isn't working either. Ive already checked every single fuse and relay and still nothing. Everything else works good so I doubt it if I nessed up the computer. What else can I check. Thanks
Dude...trying to fix my dads old Yukon XL 04. For the life of me none of the front cigarette lighter ports worked. Could not understand it. Plugged in my obd reader...nothing. Open up my fuse box...the fuse ain't even in there
You mean the trip computer? My Yukon is a 2001, so I would guess that year? I didn't change it and assumed it was stock. Is that what you're talking about?
For me, I believe a previous owner plugged in a high-watt inverter to one of the front two cigarette lighters. When I removed that lower panel (see vid on creating an in-dash pocket) I noticed there were some melted/shorted wires in there.
I will be in touch with you tomorrow buddy my 2005 Yukon denali xl just started misfiring earlier and my obd computer wouldn't respond or connect to two different scan tools and I just pulled out the cig lighter fuse and I'll be a son of a bitch if it wasnt blown we will try to hook the scan tool back up tomorrow I'll let you know the results man i was about to head to the dealership tomorrow thanks
Fixed it for me too, 2004 Yukon Denali.
Once again, TH-cam to the rescue. My OBD port and ScanGauge went dead and I knew there had to be a simple answer, rather than take to mechanic and spend $$$$. The 15amp fuse was in fact the culprit.
I always forget the DLC power line is the same as then 12V supply the cig lighter gets! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks, fixed mine with this video.

You're welcome. Maybe you should show my video to the dealer, haha. :)
Thank you my powered right after I replaced it

Thank you so much for this tip. I was about to splice in a new port. Replaced the fuse and everything works right again. Thank you for posting.

Thanks for the video! So simple, but would have never thought about that specific fuse. Appreciate you!
Thank You!!! Saved me hours of trying to locate the problem with my 2005 Yukon.
Thank you for saving me a headache.
You're welcome!
Exactly my problem!

Thank you for sharing that tip. 2004 Yukon had same problem. Thank you so much
You're welcome!
Thanks! Excellent video...short, and helpful!

That is bout 90% the ISSUES when the OBD Reader is Not Working
Thank YOUUUUUU.
You saved me.
I just watched the Video and get out this problem. Right away.
Thanks Again..
Very helpful Video.
Alex
You're welcome!
Great video i definitely wouldn't have thought about a cigarette lighter fuse. Thanks man
Many thanks!!! You have given me the answer to my GMC's problem.
THANK YOU BRO
Excellent! Exactly my problem and quickly solved. Thank you for sharing this info.
It's really common for that fuse to blow because pennies/dimes drop into cigarette lighter hole by ashtray and short that circuit. Don't use a larger fuse or you risk burning up the wire harness when you drop another penny in the cigarette lighter hole...
Thanks for the tip! It was exactly that fuse.
Thank you! That was a lot quicker and easier than checking every fuse!
Man thanks i needed that just had this happen my 15 fuse was melted
You rock
THANKS FOR MAKING THE VIDEO REALLY HELPFUL
Thank you for a coherent video. Much appreciated.
You're welcome!
Awesome video. I have a 2005 denali same issue. Fixed it . Thanks
Whammy. As I was watching your video I thought “yeah I haven’t had a cigarette lighter in 10 years”
Same with mine, I think the previous owner had ran a power inverter too hot and melted the connecting wires. I'd never cared because there are 5 cigarette lighters within reach of the driver, but yeah mine works now. :)
This just saved me lot of time. Thank you!!
You're very welcome!

You hit the nail on the head buddy
It works for Tahoes too. I just changed it after I watched your video. Thanks for sharing.
Cool, thanks for letting me know. I would bet most large GM vehicles from around that time period are wired that way.
Bingo
You are a god among mortals thank you!
WHAT Caused the cig fuse to blow in the 1st place?
In my case I believe the previous owner plugged a powerful inverter into the cigarette lighter and melted the wires together. I saw the melted wires when I was replacing the stereo system.
Lol, that was it.
dude thank you so much....saved me tonight.
Bro you just saved me $99 bucks!!
I thought same thing but im not getting power to the fuse.
Excellent, thanks!!
You're welcome!

Oh boy...you are off my map! Maybe an in-line fuse? I have no idea, sorry!
@@mrjchristensen1 😀, Well I did find out t h at pin 16 had no voltage comming out of it. Thanks anyways
Would a 20a fuse be to much???
Saved me; thank you!
Thanks for the Help!
You're welcome!
I have the same truck, they just keep blowing
Thank you. Such a nightmare.
Dude...trying to fix my dads old Yukon XL 04. For the life of me none of the front cigarette lighter ports worked. Could not understand it. Plugged in my obd reader...nothing.
Open up my fuse box...the fuse ain't even in there
What year is that fuel gauge under your radio from? I’m tryna swap one into my rig!
You mean the trip computer? My Yukon is a 2001, so I would guess that year? I didn't change it and assumed it was stock. Is that what you're talking about?
Spot on, thank you!
real question is why the hell does it keep popping?
For me, I believe a previous owner plugged in a high-watt inverter to one of the front two cigarette lighters. When I removed that lower panel (see vid on creating an in-dash pocket) I noticed there were some melted/shorted wires in there.
Could it be any other fuse
I don't think so, as far as I know that fuse is the only relay for the cigarette lighter and OBD II port.
Thank You!
You’d da man . Thank you sir.
