Hey Travis I cannot thank you enough for your vid on the '04 Yukon Denali. EXCELLENT ADVICE SIR! Thanks for being so detailed. I have very limited mechanic knowledge so this is very helpful. The problem just showed up on my 05 yukon last night. I am going to try and give it a shot this week. thanks again
My 03 Silverado 6.0 was showing the "reduced engine power" as well one morning, so I cleared the codes and it runs totally fine now. I think it was just due to the cold the one day

I'm not even a GM guy but my friends have 04 Tahoe they bought new 5.3 it has 439k miles motor is original but two transmissions still looks great it's a weekend dog hauler these days. Looking forward to the TWA touch on this one
@TWAMotorsports I went to the dealer and they tell me dealer won't sell parts for a 2004 yukon because is to old....is that true????and I have to buy one in autozone
the rattle in the throttle body is normal when you rock it from side to side. I bought a new GM TB ported by kaytech for my 2018 6.2 and it made that sound. I was a little concerned, but then I pulled out the original one from my truck and it did the same exact thing.
When mine does this I can pull over, shut off the engine for 10 seconds and start it back up. It will though do it again on and off on me within 5 to 10 miles. Thank you for your video!
That is the pigtail that goes to the throttle body I had the same symptoms changed the pigtail and it didn't reduce engine power for months but then it came back some how
Sounds a lot like mine, but my scenario was very hot day in traffic on I-10. It seems it will work (ok) as long as i can run on cruise control. But getting into traffic was the death nell
@@TWAMotorsports I'm missing two bolts to go into throttle body to manifold so Imma clean it, I order 2 bolts and hopefully the code leaves I clean it it does good but from being loose to much air getting in.. so Imma try cleaning and putting all 3 bolts but if not Imma just fix it
I totally agree with you I bought one for my 04 suburban and it got worst and know I can't get it to run or turn on I don't know what else to do I haven't been able to run again sucks
Cool video. My 03 Yukon does it once in a while but doesn't do it when it's cold. It does it after it's warmed up. I can start it fine and drive for a couple miles and once a start it again it gives me that reduce engine power. I just disconnect the harness and plug it back in and it goes away. You think it's the throttle body?
It's always hot down here in the Keys so no cold issue. The shop did add additional ground and I am embarrassed to admit how much money I threw at it w several/many different sensors replaced just trying to keep it going through my fishing season. Just can't pull off the road every 5 miles. Now I have time to work on it myself. Btw I have owned 6 older Burbans (pre '99) over 40 yrs and was able to fix the routine issues. Never had a GMC Yukon Denali w all this fancy stuff.
@@TWAMotorsports Thanks Man. I don't post often but if & when I figure this out i will definitely advise You and hopefully help some of your followers. I am having a hard time finding a TRUE GMC TB for 6.0 '04 Denali Ac Delco ok if i can find one? Thanks for your time and i won't bug you anymore until i fix the damn thing.
Also a fan of OEM parts i ran into so many problems before that i thought was because of something else and ended up being the aftermarket part was the issue the whole time. Now i juat look for the best prices of the OEM parts only.
I have this same problem with my Yukon. Got a new TB and harness installed at dealer and 3 months later the same problem started back up. Pretty much gonna get rid of the truck now. It's become a problem no one can fix.
@@TWAMotorsports probably, but how many ground wires are in the truck? I've already spent a fortune trying to get it fixed all for nothing. IMO, if someone encounters this issue, they should get rid of the truck immediately and save themselves from a world of headaches.
@@TWAMotorsports I've been reading online about it for months and haven't been able to get mine fixed at the shop. Is there a list of grounds I can fix? I will try it. I hate to see a nice truck get dumped over something this silly.
Hi travis i have the issue but i already change the throttle body and the black box that runs the throttle and the gas pedal and i left the negative wire unplug over night still the same issue no throttle responds and i turn it off turn it on again runs fine for minutes or less i dont know what else to do i can really use your skill thank you very much
My 03 Yukon does it when it's warm up. I'll come back from work and if I start it again to go anywhere else it gives me that message. I have to turn it off disconnect the throttle body harness and plug it back in then it goes back to normal. I'm kinda leaning toward the throttle body as well. What do you think it is?
So the p1516 code pertains to the TB I cleaned my grounds as well drove it this morning it being cold did the same thing again I did a plug and wire change 2 weeks ago after this past weekend it started the reduce power and check engine light stays on I noticed in the cab the rpm needle is sitting below the 1on a cold start a bit wasn't like that before the problem arose
Had my battery and alternator checked everything shows fine. But my 03 denali sometimes will be dead and need jump start. I get service system stability on DIC And sometimes when i crank it tc light comes on with reduced engine power?
Keep the roof rack. I have an 04 yukon slt. I just recently upgraded my tail lights. After I installed the tail lights and put in LED bulbs my cruise control stopped working. My switch is brand new and my fuse is good. I've researched that the new tail lights could be the problem. Lemme know what you think.
I got a 04 upper year Yukon Denali 6.0 Awd It set for years before we bought it Put fuel in it Busted right off New brakes tires plugs and wires Fresh oil and filter Air filter Evap canister Couple 1000$ Started getting rough Just put a new fuel sending unit or whatever pump and all Run good until I’ll filled it up this morning I have 05 Silverado Every thing is almost exactly the same I’ve never really had to change anything but wheel hubs Any ideas why the Yukon is acting up?
Hello sir, my chevy express doing the same when i hit a bump..I changed throttle body position sensor, worked for a couple hours then i took a bumpy road and problem came back..any idea?! Thanks!
I have the same limp mode issue with my 2003 gmc Denali 6.0. It will at times do it when I hit a bump, other times for no particular reason. I can pull off the road sit for 20 seconds, fire it up and take back off. Sometimes I’m good the rest of the drive, other times it’ll do it 5 times in the next 5 minutes. Had throttle body replaced, pedal sensors, knock sensors. Sounds like I need to confirm it was a gm tb and check my grounds. Does this sound like the place to start? I also have weird intermittent cabin lighting issues where they are often dim and then will randomly be really bright as they should be. Think it’s related and any ideas? Thanks for the great vid and comments on here!
Hey Travis, Thanks so much for the video. Got a question about my 2007 Sierra 1500 truck. When you said “reduced power” did that also mean it was missing like firing on fewer cylinders? The GMC dealer suggested to rebuild the top half of the motor. The mechanic is telling me it’s stuck in 4 cylinder mode. It has that 8 cylinder, 4 cylinder gas saving feature. My truck stopped running setting at a red light, it wasn’t moving but when I finally got it cranked it felt like it was firing on 2 cylinders. I’ve had small electronic issues in the past but nothing like this and I don’t know if switching from 8 cyl to 4 cyl is done electronically. Have you ever experienced a GMC stuck in 4 cylinder mode? When I get the truck back I’m going to look at my ground wires. Thanks again for the video.

I have a 2000 Yukon. Replaced throttle position, O2 sensor and fuel pump. Also new in line fuel filter, and plugs but not new wires. Running alot better but still doing it. Not showing any codes. Any ideas!!!
Im having the same issue but also another issue where it will have a very slow crank in the morning but it will start and it will say reduced engine power ill let my truck warm up turn the truck off start it couple times and it the limp mode goes away but do its the tb or could be something else ?
I’m having a similar issue on my 03 avalanche it has the p1518 throttle body code, it runs like a dream until I turn the air on, then it goes into reduced power mode. With the air off it is fine, there is a new aftermarket tb on it should I change it to a gm tb? Why do you think it gets triggered by the ac/blower motor
@@TWAMotorsports I went through and made several new grounds already, and fixed a shotty splice job on the blower motor with no luck. I was reading review on the tb which is a hitachi, and many of them are saying it's garbage and only works for about 5 months. I don't know how long it has been in there I just bought the truck a couple days ago
@@TWAMotorsports I brought it to a mechanic friend of mine that specializes in electrical we narrowed it down the the ac compressor, replaced it and it's still happening. Looking at the wiring diagram the compressor runs into the computer that controls the TCM were going to isolate it and see if it works he's thinking it either needs a computer or it could be more of a mechanical issue, I'm leaning towards computer, when the code is off it runs great
P1516 will pop up and go into reduced power mode randomly after i am already driving for a while. Ill pull over and turn my truck off and turn it back on and it goes away and i can drive normally again. The regular driving does seem kinda sluggish though.
My 2003 was getting hard to start and was intake gasket causing it🤔. Roof rack needs to go. Hopefully you will install electric fans, thinking about installing them in my 2000 chevy truck.. ✌
I believe I have this issue on my 03 yukon. It was coldish this morning...dead battery, jump started it, and reduced engine power message was on along with disabled system stability. Had no power at all going up my driveway.... Shut it off a couple times..second restart it worked fine...messages gone.
are you going to make a Yukon build series that would be awesome . you could swap the roof racks for escalades' . I've got escalade trim on my Yukon. roof racks , running boards , rear bumper, rear window with third brake light and rear pillar vents . and it makes it look like an upgraded trim package .
When mine does it, i can stop and turn of the engine for about 1 min. Restart the engine and im good for who knows when. So, throttle position sensor or computer??
Been dealing with this with our 2003 yukon xl 1500 denali. Has the 6.0. Weird thing is when it happens, you can pull over and turn off the engine, then after a minute or so start up and keep driving normal
@@TWAMotorsports yea definitely a repair I feel comfortable tackling... Not looking forward to the head gasket on my other car... 03 century with the 3.1
@@TWAMotorsports can definitely confirm lol. Replaced thermostat (that was missing for reasons... Previous owner), then waterpump was leaking. Then replaced that and then was told it was the intake Manifold gasket... Just paid for that to be done... And now it's the head gasket. Honestly not sure if worth it at this point... 238k miles.
I have a question. Did you get a code when it was running bad on cold crank up? My 04 Yukon will run like crap on a real cold morning on a crank up. Seconds later it runs fine. Black smoke out the tail pipe. Code shows 071 and 074. May be 171 and 174. Any who. Those are left and right bank lean. Going to change my 02 sensors and see what happens. Original throttle body on her. Oh and I took my roof rack off and love that look
@@sandymilne224to be honest I have the sensors for the front. I just have not replaced them yet. I don’t know if this is the problem. But I think it is a good place the start.
@@sikes185 : Thanks for the comment. They are not cheap to buy quality ones. Without testing the OHMs of everyone of them, I was wondering if the fail rate of specific ones is more common. I’d start by replacing those first and go one-by-one through the system. Just wondering if anybody knew which ones ‘go’ more often than the others.
@@sandymilne224well my thoughts on this is. The code reads left and right bank lean. If it was just reading left bank lean then I’d go with one. But sense it says left and right. What the hec I will replace both. I mean it’s only money. You can’t take it with you. Lol
Was your reduced engine code somehow associated with rain, water? I replaced the throttle body and related sensors and the problem went away. For a little while anyways, but it came back shortly after, one thing I noticed. The reduced engine power code always showed up after a car wash or every time it rained. It is my understanding that there's a service bulletin from GM related to this fault.
For my situation it isn’t the throttle body, I bought a new throttle body, coil packs, spark plugs, wires, but yet it still gives me this issue. It’ll even cut mid drive and buck and eventually die and not start again.
Definitely, delete the roof rack so much cleaner look. I’d love to see how to do that to mine. Love the channel, your up there next to that Giraffe guy from Florida, as my favorite channels to watch. Side question if you don’t mind. How do you get the caps, over the bolts/ nuts of the windshield wipers off with out damaging them?
2003 CHEVY AVALANCHE SAME PROBLEM ..after changing the TB the reduce engine power still there plus it start to misfire 2 last cylinders on the passenger side to front not firing
@TWAMotorsports Hi Travis, Are those wheels from a new generation RAM 1500 DT ? I have them and they have pretty much the same specs then the GM except the center bore is smaller by 3mm... let me know if they are, I was thinking to use mine as well for winter on my 2010 Avalanche!...great video thanks. I bought a Hitachi Throttle body for mine, hope it fixes my reduce power issue...
@TWAMotorsports thanks, Installed it yesterday morning and problem is gone for now. Drove 10miles after the relearning procedure. It was listed as A Favorites Part to buy on Rock Auto, whatever that means. Cheers!

Had it in 3 different shop no one can tell me what it could be. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
Excellent vid Sir. I also have an '04 Yukon Denali XL that I bought 5 years ago w 170K/223k now. Same color but yours looks much nicer. It is also my daily driver and I use it to tow a sm skiff for my charter biz. Always ran perfectly. Love it! Many months ago the T/C light would come on periodically and it would go into Reduced Power mode. Pull off the road, wait a few seconds and restart and all is fine for approx 5 miles. Took it to my local shop here (I had to get it running ASAP & did not have time to R&R the TB myself) in the Keys and they replaced Throttle Body and both front wheel sensors. Ran fine for 4 MONTHS, now I have the same problem constantly. Undrivable now. They used an aftermarket TB. I would sincerely appreciate any advice. R&R TB w genuine GMC part? Thanks again for the explicit vid. Please advise Sir. Thank you very much.
I have a very weird problem with mine.. The same 'reduced engine power' happens but I replaced my Hitachi throttle body to a GM one. The original GM one doesn't work at all in my truck, the truck doesn't even run with that brand-new GM one. It does work with the Hitachi one somehow until it throws the 'reduced engine power' again. My problem is so weird: new original GM throttle body doesn't work at all; I replaced my ECM for a new one; changed my fuel pump; checked my ground wires.. And it still throws the 'engine reduced power' with the code for unmatching throttle position. I have NO CLUE at all what else I should try.
Please do not put electric fans on this. Mainly because your gonna put a lot of work into it and sell it a couple months anyway, save the fans for something you might keep.
My dumbazz cleaned the throttle body without unplugging the battery now I have an idle surge and reduced engine power code so I bought a new throttle body/tps, I unplugged the battery for and hr and removed all the ecm fuses. That is the pigtail that goes to the throttle body I had the same symptoms changed the pigtail and it didn't reduce engine power for months but then it came back some how
Junk throttle bodies
Sounds a lot like mine, but my scenario was very hot day in traffic on I-10. It seems it will work (ok) as long as i can run on cruise control. But getting into traffic was the death nell

Gm one?
Those coolant hose under the throttle specifically the left one where does it go to?
One to under intake. One to radiator
Probably so
It's always hot down here in the Keys so no cold issue. That is a cable throttle body. Different deal than what I address here
Also a fan of OEM parts i ran into so many problems before that i thought was because of something else and ended up being the aftermarket part was the issue the whole time. Now i juat look for the best prices of the OEM parts only.
Definitely the way to go
I have this same problem with my Yukon. Got a new TB and harness installed at dealer and 3 months later the same problem started back up. Pretty much gonna get rid of the truck now. It's become a problem no one can fix.
Could be a grounding issue
@@TWAMotorsports probably, but how many ground wires are in the truck? I've already spent a fortune trying to get it fixed all for nothing. IMO, if someone encounters this issue, they should get rid of the truck immediately and save themselves from a world of headaches.
Several do get rid of them. Maybe 10 grounding places in all
@@TWAMotorsports I've been reading online about it for months and haven't been able to get mine fixed at the shop. Is there a list of grounds I can fix? I will try it. I hate to see a nice truck get dumped over something this silly.

Most likely not my father got it for me and I put it on I can check if it is gm and if it’s not where can I get a gm trottle body.
@Numbersactor from a dealer
Could be the issue. Generally is
My truck has same prob what type of wire you used for ground wire ? Any specific or type of wires you need or how thick they need be ?? Lmk Plz
10 gauge I believe
Of course it's gonna work you reset it with the battery disconnect. My question is what happened a couple days later? Did the issue come back???
Not after replacing throttle body
So the p1516 code pertains to the TB I cleaned my grounds as well drove it this morning it being cold did the same thing again I did a plug and wire change 2 weeks ago after this past weekend it started the reduce power and check engine light stays on I noticed in the cab the rpm needle is sitting below the 1on a cold start a bit wasn't like that before the problem arose
I would look at the throttle body especially if it is only on cold mornings
Had my battery and alternator checked everything shows fine. But my 03 denali sometimes will be dead and need jump start.
I get service system stability on DIC
And sometimes when i crank it tc light comes on with reduced engine power?
@twamotorsports
That could be some sort of parasitic draw
Keep the roof rack. I have an 04 yukon slt. I just recently upgraded my tail lights. After I installed the tail lights and put in LED bulbs my cruise control stopped working. Sounds like a ground broken or frayed
@@TWAMotorsports thanks, I’ll check that and I’ll check throttle plate.

@firebirdloft back of heads too
I have the same limp mode issue with my 2003 gmc Denali 6.0.
Sounds more like a ground issue
What things do you do to increase gas mileage? Clean sensors, gas type etc?
I use E87, that’s it. No mods etc.
Generally that isn't a concern of mine
i noticed you moved the oil fill neck back in place when moving the harness out of the way. Is that normal for the neck to move like that?
Some older ones do
Hey Travis, Thanks so much for the video.
No that is a different issue entirely
All I did was run a ground from the ECU to the negative battery terminal and fixed the problem
Mine was definitely the throttle body

With the air off it is fine, there is a new aftermarket tb on it should I change it to a gm tb? Why do you think it gets triggered by the ac/blower motor
Could just be a broken ground
@@TWAMotorsports I went through and made several new grounds already, and fixed a shotty splice job on the blower motor with no luck. I was reading review on the tb which is a hitachi, and many of them are saying it's garbage and only works for about 5 months. I don't know how long it has been in there I just bought the truck a couple days ago
I doubt its rhe tb if it only happens when ac is on
@@TWAMotorsports I brought it to a mechanic friend of mine that specializes in electrical we narrowed it down the the ac compressor, replaced it and it's still happening. Looking at the wiring diagram the compressor runs into the computer that controls the TCM were going to isolate it and see if it works he's thinking it either needs a computer or it could be more of a mechanical issue, I'm leaning towards computer, when the code is off it runs great

I have a question. Did you get a code when it was running bad on cold crank up? My 04 Yukon will run like crap on a real cold morning on a crank up. Seconds later it runs fine.
It can be. These throttle bodies are temperamental
