How are you handling the thistle? I haven't found a good way to get rid of my patches. If I can get the oats off early enough it gives me a chance to disk the thistle but it still seems to persist. I'm thinking to put various other short season crops like peas or buckwheat in there but there's a pretty steep financial cost (loss relative to corn/beans) to planting those crops. If I had animals I'd consider pasture.
Good question! I am actually taking that second field out of row crop production for a year. I am trying to choke it out with sorghum sudangrass. I have heard some success with it so I thought I’d try it. I will just be flail mowing it back on to the field so there won’t be any income from that field this year. Hopefully it works! I will find out soon enough.
one thing you could to push yield ,is when you cultivate, try putting on a foliar spray of organic fertilizer.. its just an ideal.. ggod luck

Maybe I missed ur explanation, but y do u believe the weeds were easier to handle in ur 1st yr organic?
Weed seed bank is lower. That’s my observation.
