I don’t even know that this beautiful instrument exists.....until my daughter start high school and she decides to go with the marching band and I don’t know why she really likes the bass clarinet!! she told me she likes it because sounds different from the other instruments also nobody pick up bass clarinet!!! After that all I can tell you is!!!!! PURE MAGIC Like this performance is just so beautiful and wonderful notes 👏👏👏👏👏👏

I recently picked up an older R13 Prestige, it has some dodgy intonation but i love it! I started bass clarinet 2 years ago because I wasn't very good at the soprano clarinet and still wanted to contribute to my band. I found that bass clarinet spoke to me in a way the soprano never did, and I devoted so much time to it; I wanted to be better! This year, I made principal chair of the Honors All State ILMEA honor band.
I also started seriously practicing Bb again, and now I can finally say that, for a high schooler, I'm pretty good at both!

Bravo! damn this really makes me miss playing bass back in high school. I played for about 7 years throughout middle-high school but eventually stopped to focus on clarinet only then stopped as a whole to pursue other things. Loved being the only one in honor bands/orchestras; everyone was always so intrigued by the instrument. good times.

any tips on how to play notes above a high F (the one that has the fingerings like a low Bb but with the register key) without squeaking?
When I need to improve range, I hold my highest note for a long time so I can remember what the amateur feels like and what my breath feels like. Once you get your highest note to sound really good and solid, the one above will become ur highest note. Then do the same to that one. Dont be afraid to play loud. And remember to build up to difficult notes, you dont have to start right at F, start at D and build up. D,E,F,G ... hope this helps

I played this in middle school. Couldn’t even afford the $20 to rent the thing. People picked on me so bad . However, I’m still a fan of the instrument.

I love the performance but not the recording. So many notes are lost in the excessive ambience of the space.
Too gimmicky. Virtuosity for its own sake isn't "good". The MUSIC is what's important. This MUSIC is crap. Play something GOOD--BEAUTIFULLY. There is a distinct difference and you can surely appreciate this. Even if it's SIMPLE it has to be GOOD MUSIC. Put your soul into it. And let the INSTRUMENT'S VOICE speak. That is all anyone wants to hear. Those who want something other than that are effete frauds and don't matter. Seriously, consider this criticism. This is why we seek you out. I looked for this video. But I'm not bookmarking it and will not listen to it again because of the criticisms I've made above. And nothing against YOU or your musicianship, but against this horrible TREND and this ideology that undercuts you. Become free of it. You know better already. Do what you already know to be right.
