      That is because Truth is Truth, and Culture is like anything else, it comes in cycles. There is always a swing from Conservatism to Progressivism within culture, politics etc and the main reason for that is because of the fact that the young people who were "convinced" by the Conservatives of their day grew up and got into positions of authority, recognizance etc. So while Progressivism is always ALWAYS dragging culture kicking and screaming into the future, there is always going to be those who try to drag us the other way. Unfortunately the only way to overcome them in the longterm is to mold the youth of a culture to recognize the value of social progress and thus never become the Future Conservative Leaders who fight it.....
      That does mean that I consider racism, misogyny and bigotry as "Conservative" Forces in our society because its typically held and employed by those people for whom authority, respect and fear are only garnered through racist activity. Once they are no longer the ones with the power to enact their vile views they feel "oppressed".

    Don't know in US, but in ANY european army, the only thing a cadet can say to an officer is "Aye Sir", standing on attention too. Anything else would result in quarters arrest, and on a second occasion, in instant dismissal. A real officer never confronts with anyone, and brawling is a serious offense, resulting in prosecution. There are many ways to teach discipline to a hothead, perfectly legal and extremely effective. Guaranteed.

    • @reallystraightguy2716

    • @tellurye
      @tellurye 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @fgtrbhwerth3w I believe you are right. In the US , I think you have to ask permission to speak otherwise, and thats recommended in private because having a convo in front of others would be seeing as challenging the upper rank and showing disrespect. So yeah, this whole scene, the cadet would ask to speak to him privately and then give him the order explaining Teague is no longer enrolled in the class, etc. But I have never served so I will leave that up to the men and women who have.

    • @TheRestrictedgamer
      @TheRestrictedgamer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      It is the same way in the US. This may be a good movie but it's not realistic at all.
      At any military academy, that cadet would have faced criminal charges under military law for assaulting a commissioned officer, and probably would have been sent to a military prison. Also, if the officer had provoked the cadet into the fight like what happened in this movie, then he would have also faced some kind of disciplinary action. It's unlikely that he would face the same criminal charges as the cadet who initiated the physical confrontation, but the officer would AT LEAST get the kind of black mark in his record that would ensure he would never recieve another promotion and likely be forced out of the military early and without any of the veteran's benefits to which he would otherwise be entitled.

    I encountered this mentality returning from the Gulf War 1990 while attending college. My class was called Ethical Decisions. Being the only Vet in the compressed class, NOBODY was remotely aware about the massive training that takes place prior to deployment. We study what they are taught, how they are taught, their weapons used, etc. This is so we always use their weapons since any repairs would be far expedient. We also studied their vehicles to repair. I could pick up one of their weapons when my ammo ran out, or no longer fired. We could use their own equipment against them. We also LEARNED the battle was from politicians, not opposing soldiers within their country.

    If you had behaved in that manner to any senior officer in real life you'd be out of the army in a day
    To behave in the obnoxious way that cadet did would get an dishonourable discharge
    Until you get through your basic training you have no official rank and any rank you have is honourary
    Hence forth why the word cadet is prefaced to any other title

    Listen here Cadiots. Unlike your teachers and civilian instructors, all commissioned officers have had at least some level of hand to hand comabt training. Many taking it upon themselves to refine and learn the longer they served. If they are your JROTC or some dumb pseudo academy instructor at a qualified institution, no matter how old they may seem, some reflexes never atrophy. A Cadet commander falls about 80 levels below a commissioned officer in terms of respect and authority.

    The Substitute movie series were part of the scared straight genre of action films. They are not always meant to be realistic. Most shared a common theme. An unassuming new employee is forced to stand up against disruptive influences that threaten the school.
    In this case it followed a pattern of the lead character voluntarily stepping into a school that he knew had a troubled element. His involvement was preceded by a personal connection.
    He is there to provoke and draw out the troublemakers. He may not be following protocol, but he knows what he is doing. He has done this exact provocation of the class alpha in the previous movie, which took place in an inner city, non- military environment. He is establishing dominance and daring the unseen enemies to come to him.
