I could honestly listen to the cast of TNG sit around telling stories about backstage shenanigans all day, every day, and I don't think I've ever get bored.
Thanks for stunt doubling Data's data about his stunt man's last name ! B-) Because his memory banks glitched on it, he was extra ebullient in his praise for him.
What a kick-ass movie FIrst Contact was. Regarding the stunt, I'm remembering Richard Kiel, the gentle giant who played Jaws in the James Bond films: when his mother saw Jaws fighting 007 on top of the cable car gondola, she told her son how brave she thought he son was, and he said, "Mom, they used a stunt double....I'm so afraid of heights, I don't even like being this tall."
@@robd1329 I'm 62 and she doesn't look old to me! I remember her in a movie I saw years ago where she and her son (I think) could become invisible. Some kind of vampires IIRC. Something involving cats... I could be mistaken...
@@PhilG999 You're thinking of the Stephen King work Sleepwalkers. A story about these shape-shifters that prey on virgin girls and are deathly afraid of cats. Because cats can see through their illusions and can inflict fatal to near fatal damage with just a scratch.
Hehe, I was going to say at the start of the story when Brent says it was a stunt double. I remember that scene and it certainly looked like Brent sailing through the air. Lots of respect for him taking his fear head on like that for the shot. He could have just said nope, not doing it, CGI my head on there or reframe the shot so the stunt double can do it, whatever. (head replacement probably wasn't a thing back then though) But no, he did the shot and it looked really good. I always appreciated those moments when they would highlight Data's strength or other superhuman attributes.
See, I don't believe in the word "fearless." Because it means just that - devoid of fear. The word shouldn't even exist. Because everybody is afraid of something. Case in point. This was bravery, in every respect of the word. And you don't even have to slow anything down or enhance the scene at all to know that, yes, it was really Mr. Spiner doing that jump. Amazing work, Mr. Spiner! Well done!
Wow Will you have lost some wait! Thanks for doing this recap of all my favorite shows of all time. FYI I'm such and old nerd. I watch Star Trek every night on HI TV with my antenna in Apopka Florida. Thanks for the show. Great seeing everyone.
The film is underrated... it's another worthy adventure from the crew. Too bad they never got around and make a fifth to end on a good note, because Nemesis felt a bit lacking. Goldsmith wrote a good exciting score with Insurrection, if not the most inspired of all the Trek music he has written.
Hi Brent spiner my name is Bridget and from Pontiac Michigan and I would like to say that you are amazing and hilarious movie actor wonderful musician musician and my family and I are your biggest fans of you wish you love 💕 and stay safe
Star Trek: First Contact is easily my favorite Star Trek movie, period. I think it’s also my favorite space/sci-fi movie as well. It’s such a magnificent movie, and the entire cast is phenomenal in it.
listening to that, I thought that frakes was yanking his chain when he said in the shot that people wouldn't believe it was spiner, i thought that he thought"oh, yeah, let's play a practical joke on brent" LOL. He looks great with a beard & mo/goatie.
As I listened to that description Brent, the story was great. I know about the fear of heights and I'm chuckling as you describe it. Then it brought me to tears laughing as I'm watching Sir Patrick, Jonathan, and Alice's faces laughing about it. Yeah, theeeeeeyyy knew what they were doing! You folks are excellent at what you do and thank you for taking that challenge. Waiting for the new "Picard" and "Discovery" episodes..And Wil, congratulations on being made "Acting Ensign" on last nights episode of TNG! LOL....
I am rewatching next generation at the moment and my first thought, when I saw Brent Spiner was “wait a minute. Something is wrong with his eyes” What a great actor he is to not scream loud, but being the same cool android as always.
Cudos to Brent Spiner. So committed and talented he can put aside sheer terror and put on a face of nonchalance! Not something many others could do, I'm sure - certainly not me! 😳
I visited the Titan Missile Museum in AZ and had no idea that it was the silo used in First Contact, that's something that they should tell people on the tour.
Such a cool video. Wesley Crusher all grown up interviewing the adults. I have to say, I prefer Brent Spiner's "Data" voice over his real one. He's easily one of my favorite Star Trek characters.
I always thought that jump was CGI. I mean... it looks completely fake. I remember watching it in the cinema, thinking "oh, they messed up the CGI" but shrugging it off since it was such a short moment.
I just Watched The Wrath of Khan for the Very first Time, just last night, as an Adult. & I'm about to be 40. I can't Remember the Shatner Movies from my Childhood, so it's only now, I've taken the Time to go back, & watch them. I still think it's a shame the way Star Trek Enterprise Didn't get a fair shake. So many Elements were right, but the Timing for it was off. DS9 was still on Air, & doing OKAY, Voyager was Floundering, & it meant most people never gave Enterprise a Chance. PLUS they got BONED on the intro Music, a complete bamboozle.

Oh geez. I suffer vertigo at height so there's no way I would have been able to do it. 😳 Why the shot couldn't have been achieved with Brent jumping from the 3-4ft mark then lengthened with special effects even back in the 1990s, I'll never understand.
well now i feel more validated in my extreme fear of heights lol people always make fun of me for being scared of heights because i'm so tall (5'11") as if that has anything to do with being scared of heights or not

as long as frakes, brent, and michael dorn are in the room, i'd happily sit and listen to them speak for as long as they wanted
I met Brent Spiner in person..they guy was really funny and made me and the fans like friends backstage for pics. A class act!!!!
Did he give you any Mister Data dolls?
So it WAS a real silo... I knew it! Big respect for the crew and for Brent Spiner for pulling this stunt.
The Titan Missile Museum. Recommend the tour if your ever in the area.
Brian John Williams is a stuntman and stunt actor who was the main stunt double for Brent Spiner
He was credited.

"I had to be focus and be Data,... because if I was being me I would scream" - Brent Spiner
Classic method acting! 🤣
There's something psycho about being an actor...Going around acting like other people.
There's quite a difference between Data and Brent Spiner.I still love data but I have met Brent Spiner in real life and I'm not crazy about him.

They also used some pretty terrible blue screen for that scene! But there are actually a few good shots of the stunt men doing the real thing.
Met Richard Kiel once, such a lovely man. A true gentle giant.
"Two-takes" Frakes has such a perfect ring to it; great name.
You can tell they’re tight because Patrick and Jonathan think Brent’s fear is hilarious.
I bet Brent regrets getting Patrick to "loosen up" during the shooting of TNG now, huh? :p

Brent Spiner looks like he is prepping for the starring role in a biopic about Stephen Spielberg.
I was thinking that as well.
That's not Brent Spiner. He just looks like him. That's Dr. Okun from Area 51.
Lore versus Jaws
Two-takes Frakes, I love it!
Frakes is clearly in the cabin they used for Riker and Troi's home in Picard there.
In the thumbnail, I thought for a moment that it was Steven Spielberg with his hair pulled back before I realized it was Spiner.
I just posted something like that and then read your comment.
