Dave, this video concentrates in clearly explaining and demonstrating only one major TK9 editing technique. I really like that approach, more so than the ones where you showcase many more. I can more easily, quickly, completely absorb and remember what you present when only one major editing procedure is applied.
I agree, Dave. I'm still working my way through last week's TK Friday.
This is so much faster and easier then my prior work flow for blurring backgrounds and then Color Grading the background! Thanks Dave for showing us and thank you Tony for adding the Focus Mask button. This is so helpful.
Great lesson - incredibly helpful! I did notice on the Lens Blur dialog that it was not responding - then I saw mine was set to "More Accurate" - I changed it to "Faster" (which when I looked back at your video was how yours was set). You make everything so simple. Hope you continue these "TK Special Editions". Thanks so much!
Really nice Dave. Thanks!
Thanks for a very informative video!! The blur feature along with colour grading are features that will be used when editing my pics.
Amazing thanks, no need for that $$ 1.4 lens!
Awesome Dave, I love the way you moderate all of the TK videos.
Great video thanks Dave! BTW I supposed if you wanted to further blur the background you could do a CTRL-J to add another layer of blurring the background?
Thanks for highlighting and demonstrating this new TK9 tool. This is a very helpful tutorial! Thanks Dave!!!
Dave thanks is a magic tip thanks.
Awesome !!!!
We 'love' this one! ,,,will be using this feature more often. Thank you, Dave.
Very helpful hidden jewel of a feature. Thanks for unearthing it for us!
It works in Polish. You just need to download the Beta neural blur filter first, which you forgot to mention and I think it's worth reminding it, although Photoshop itself mentions it. Greetings from Poland from the city of "Fortress Przemyśl". As usual, your films inspire me, although the algorithms of Pentax cameras do not require such intensive color processing.
This certainly is much easier. Thanks for showing us this great addition to TK9.
It really is!
Hi Dave!
Deph Map works perfectly in the Italian version ;-)
Ciaooooo
Good to know!
This is awesome! thanks
Hola Dave!! Thank you for sharing it!. I have PS in Latin American Spanish and the "Hidden" feature works just fine (for both images). Cheers!!!
Excellent! I wonder if Tony would consider adding a small dot or something on the button to indicate using alt or ctrl provides a different function? I lose track of of which buttons have additional features.
Thanks!
Thank you for the Super Thanks.
This is just awesome. It's going to be a very useful tool to edit many images with greater dof. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for showing us this stunning hidden fature, Dave! Works fine with teh German version of PS.
You should use the new feature (EYE button) in TK9 (combo panel) for the before and after look of the selected layer, it does not add to the history saving your history space.
Great Tip!
I was waiting for this, this is awesome, thank you for explaining it so well Dave 😄
Fantastic. Will try this on my bird photos.
great Dave. very useful. Keep 'em coming.
Awesome! Thanks Dave. As a matter of interest, when I tried to run it while in Photoshop-Beta, it would not work and an error message came up stating that the action could not be run due to some filters not being available and it directed user to go to Neural filters and update them all. I tried doing that but no luck. Must be a PS Beta issue because it works fine in the official 24.7 version. Cheers.
Hi David, I have been following you for several years now I like your way of explaining very calm and simple a great help for must understand what he is looking at. On this video that I just saw, I wanted to say two things about it, the first concerns the slowness of the filter despite having a very good performing Mac of the latest generation I find that the blur filter is slow (very slow in refreshing the image) ok , this might not be a problem, the second thing I don't like very much is that, if we look carefully at the subject and the background the edges are not beautiful ie the details of the hair are just planed away. It's not a good feeling to get a quality image….. This was only a first impression of what I saw, then I probably believe and hope it can be improved before converting the mask into a full-fledged channel. All right great video very interesting I congratulate you and I will continue to follow you as I have been doing for several years now, good work to you and thanks again.
This is awesome. Thank you.
Very helpful, like all your tutorials.
Thank you DAVE!!! This will be very very helpful. Where would my editing be if not for your videos....in. the tank I believe. Great video. Nice and short and to the point.
Great lesson. Thanks
Nice tutorial, thanks Dave!
Thanks, Dave. Very useful feature.
Great tutorial Dave. If you change the depth map layer to screen mode, it gives you a fog like effect which you can adjust by lowering the opacity or adding a clipped levels adjustment layer to change the 'depth' of the fog.
Good tip!
Pretty cool feature! Thanks Dave
Dave I’m also interested in seeing other ways you can creatively use Focus Mask in the edit process.
Thanks for this great tutorial Dave!
To answer your question: The "Hidden Feature" works absolutely fine in Photoshop as well as in Photoshop Beta in the German version.
Thanks for the info!
Great as always..... thank you for this one - very useful.... :[-)
My pleasure!
Can you apply this functionality on a specific saved channel?
Fantastic information. Excited to give it a try. Is there a way to create this as an action in Photoshop using these steps in TK9? Or record any other TK9 steps as an action? That would be wonderful if there was and you could show us how to set that up. :) Thanks Dave for sharing all of your expertise with us.
Don't think an action would be of any benefit, as each image would require different settings in the amount of blur, blur position, focus point etc.
I miss this 25%, when we can have 25%?
Ooh... I am getting "TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'spanLENSBLUR')" in Photoshop 2023, but it works fine in the BETA version?!
Hmm, not sure what's causing that, but one thing to try is to make sure you've gone into the Neural Filters and downloaded the Depth Map Neural Filter. It is not installed by default, I don't think, and you have to download it first in order for this features to work.
@@TonyKuyper No, it didn't fix it - it wasn't downloaded, so I did that and then restarted, but still the same error message. Version 24.7.0, Adobe says it's up to date. Odd really because it works flawlessly with the BETA version
When I Command-click on the button rather than generating a depth map it generates a colour duplicate of the background layer. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? I'm using Mac version, Photoshop 24.7.0, English language.
Try this. Go to the filter menu in Photoshop and Click on Neural Filters. Click on Depth Blur. You might have to Download the Depth Blur filter. If that doesn't work then Contact Tony Kuyper here: goodlight.us/contact.html
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Many thanks, Dave. I have the Depth Blur filter installed. I will drop a note to Tony about the issue.
Notice the ends of the hair - th-cam.com/video/4qr6gFfu5Cg/w-d-xo.html they are completely cut off, it doesn't look natural. The mask is not very good, it's generally a problem to create a good mask in hair.
