    Last week you posted part 1, I had to watch that tutorial a few times, and with guided practice (basically following along with your tutorial), I learned some new techniques. I expect to watch parts of this tutorial a few time and I fully expect to increase my Photoshop masking skills. I am looking forward to mastering the new skills you explained. Of course, I look forward to each and every new tutorial you post, all of your lessons are informative and instructive. THANKS!!!

    At the risk of being tedious and repetitive, you have outdone yourself again Dave. Thanks. I will have to rewatch this because some persistent deficiency in my brain allows me to understand but not right away be able to reproduce the same results.

    Thanks for mentioning the Black Friday Deal again. I finally bought it for myself. I had been suggesting it for people I tutor as it make Photoshop easier. Finally got tired of laying down my pen to do the keyboard shortcuts and got it to replace an old masking version.

    I would start with simple basic adjustments - curve auto (find light and dark colors), than move to fine tuning. Even the object selection will be much more precise after that.

    That was a great tutorial !! Thanks for sharing. How much of that can be done in TK 7 ?? I don’t have TK8 yet, I don’t want to spend the money until I get the hang of TK7.

  • @srg3798
    @srg3798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dave, I just got a potential money making idea for you. You could charge a little extra (I hope) for creating a transcript of your video, maybe even include a screen capture along the way. People like me would then pay you for being able to download and print the results. (Hopefully, there won't be giant, paper wasting empty spaces between the photos and the text.

    1. So many times said "critical" "attention" "success" - TV shop technique?))) ... 2. To my liking you destroyed grass with overgreening, on original it looked much more rich in different colours. 3. Still very useful to learn

      I over did it just so it would show up well on the tutorial. of course, you should adjust it to your taste. But at least you see the concept.

    Hi Dave, I want to ask about file size. The resulting files on my hard drive seem out of all proportion. The Jordon Elliot image begins as a 2.6mb jpeg and ends up as 189.82mb psb file?? Am I missing something? I did the same process to one of my own files, which began as a 19.52mb DNG file and that ended up as a 245mb tiff file. That's a huge difference. I've even got files that have exceeded 2gb with this process. What am I doing wrong?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      File sizes do build as you keep adding layers. I don’t believe you are doing anything wrong. If you were to flatten the image the file size would reduce considerably. If you have a lot of hard drive storage big files are no problem. For me, once I know I am happy with an edit I flatten it to save on hard drive space. But I know I have lost those layers for good. I don’t flatten until I am 100% satisfied with my edit.

    • @Mousyfox
      @Mousyfox 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thanks for that Dave. I’ve not flattened my images up to now. But I’ll be looking at doing so in the future now I’ve seen the sizes. I guess below 400mb is OK for the very best images but they will have to be really special to go over 1gb. It was the Exploring Options files that were over 2gb. Were yours the same?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Mousyfox it really depends on the image and how many layers you have and if some of those layers are pixel layers. I am sure I had images at 2gb or over. When you flatten an image and use a lossless format like TIFF you won’t lose any quality even if you are coming from a 2gb image down to a 100mb image. It is the layers that are causing the file size to increase. When you export an image as a tiff or jpeg you are baking all of the layers into the image and the file size will rapidly decrease. In other words a 2gb unflattened file will have the same image quality as a 100mb TIFF flattened file. The only reason not to flatten is if you are not quite sure your edit is finished or if you might want to go back and revisit that image later.

    • @Mousyfox
      @Mousyfox 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly I’ve discovered that it’s the smart objects that bump up the file size more than masks. That’s why the tree on the beach image ended up so large.
