    Not sure why but this one is one of the best. Maybe how you show the very advanced ways of selecting areas with those channel masks. And the flow is so clear. Thanks for all you do.

    Hi Dave, this is what I'm waiting for 2 weeks. since my upgrade to TK9. Meanwhile I saw your inauguration of Blend If and Seans Color Grade Sampling. And now I'm deep in the Death Valley. TK9 is amazing, another cornucopia of editing possibilities. 👍
    Thank you very much and many greetings, Daniel, Berlin, Germany.

    Hi Dave, I only joined your channel recently, but I'm absolutely hooked! Tony Kuyper's TK panels are superb, but with so much functionality built in, it's truly invaluable to see them in use by yourself to enable other users to unlock all the potential here. I haven't watched this upload yet, but I'm just going to dig in. Top marks and keep them coming!

    Dave, another new level for TK Friday's. Not only love to see how you use to panel, but maybe even more, your vision. I also haven gotten in the habit of trying Classical Soft Focus (CEP) at the very end of edits & then using Blend/IF on TK9. Endless possibilities. Can't wait for more! Thanks again!

    Hi Dave, Thanks again so much. I am still not so confident using the blend if adjustments so this was very useful. I did have an idea on the initial setting up for success which is an extra after saving out the sections to channels. After creating the first colour grading layer with mids 3, if you know that you are planning to do it for all the regions then duplicate the layer a couple of times. In this way it saves setting up the mids 3 again for each region and you only have to intersect the regions for each layer. It's a bit of a time saver.

      One of the nice things about TK9 is that even if you don't understand Blend If entirely, you can use the Darks, Lights, Mids, and Zone presets in Edit Blend If and the panel will take care of the rest by generating the corresponding Blend If settings in Photoshop. Then, once you see what these presets are doing on the sliders present in the Blend If interfaces, you'll start to understand how Blend If works and will be able to make similar adjustments yourself using the panel's sliders. I personally almost always start with one of the presets (or a sampled tone) and then adjust the sliders to fine-tune the results.

    Command/Control and red X in CX/Combo also toggles BlendIf settings on and off. This completely turns BlendIf settings on and off. If you use Target or Exclude to introduce an element of colour masking but leave luminosity settings at default then Gray checkbox is not checked, have to toggle Target or Exclude to show their impact. If you use Target or Exclude as well as setting a luminosity selection then there will be two checked boxes that can be toggled to turn off colour or luminosity BlendIf settings or both.

    Thank you Dave for another brilliant tutorial. TK9 is a photographer's dream! It is so user friendly but it needs your explanations to get the best from it. Sean does a very good job with his videos too, but it is nice get a worked example every week to stay up to speed. The workflow extras and actions save so much time and have become my goto final step to fine-tuning my images. 😀

    Just when I thought that I had the perfect set editing tools with TX8 along comes TX9 with a whole new realm of possibilities. This video, and I am sure with those to follow, demonstrates what a powerful panel this is and is now integral to my, and I am sure many others, workflow. Thank you Tony, and of course you Dave, for making my editing a truly joyful experience. One request. Will it be possible to include the colour hex codes in your PDF worksheet? I have to listen to the video several times to jot them down.

    Hi Dave, like you, I find the color grading tool in TK9 very smart. For editing balance and contrast in landscape photos, you regularly start by creating alpha-channels for sky, foreground, and mids 3. This works for me too. That's why I tried to create a PS action for this routine, which is always the same. It would be handy to do these 3 steps with one click. However, I have not been able to make it work.
    Do you think it is doable?

    This is a remarkable transformation Dave. Thank you once again for your efforts. Might I ask how long it took for you to the original edit of this photo......and do you sleep on it over night to look at the edit with fresh eyes the next day???

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you, Stanley. Typically, I perform the initial edit the day before creating the video, which usually takes around 4 to 5 hours for image editing and note creation-sometimes even less. After completing the edit, I engage in a Skype session with Tony, during which we review the content together. Occasionally, Tony provides valuable suggestions that I seamlessly integrate into the edit. Additionally, he assists in proofreading the notes to ensure no details have been overlooked. This process leaves me feeling well-prepared to proceed with video production on the following day.

    Great edit as usual. The only thing I'm not grasping is the decision tree involved in choosing a blendif mask over a normal luminosity mask. There seems to be major overlap there.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot of times it comes down to just personal preference. But if you would like the ability to go back and tweak a mask, Blend If is great for that. For instance if used Blend If for a burn layer targeting Darks 3 but you decided you would be better served with Darks 2 or Darks 4. You would be able to alter the Blend If setting fairly easy with Blend If on TK9.

      Also if instead of intersecting, say sky, and a luminosity mask you set sky as layer mask and use BlendIf for tones then you can adjust both independently without having to keep repeating intersecting. Using BlendIf rather than layer mask keeps file size down as well.

    Hi Dave, I understand the mechanics, how to use, the blend if mask and edit mask, but do not understand what blend if does and how it's different from a luminosity mask.
    Blend if what? Can you clarify this for me. I need to understand blend if in plain English. I think others have the same question. Thanks.
