Don't know what happened to the one you received, but the first edition I got was nearly setup straight out of the box. I removed the neck, refinished the neck light sanding to fret ends. The neck was perfectly straight. I replaced the control plate with a loaded Replacement. Shielded the cavities and have a bass that is way better than any Squeir- or any Bass under $600. I'll put mine up against anything you can review.
I'm glad yours was better than my experience than my own, but at the same time you proved the point my video was making. This is a bass aimed at beginners and you did a shit load of what I'm assuming is wonderful work to yours. That's not something most beginners will do/will know how to do/will even want to deal with when starting on an instrument. Now if this were an instrument that was aimed at garage luthiers looking for a weekend project, then hell I'd be glowing about this thing.

I have something similar to this in the works to be honest. The whole goal of any bass review is to be honest about it, I have to know what it is and who it's aimed for. For example if the Glarry was marketed towards goobers who want a modding/wood working project then I'd probably rate it higher for being a barebones starter project but because it's aimed at beginners, it's trash.

What I'd call the "Bones" of the instrument, the neck is incredibly chunky and big for a beginner neck and the body feels really blocky and cheap. If it were the QC issues alone I wouldn't care as much because of the price point and probably agree with you on getting a bad one, and you still may be right there, but for me the bones just aren't good.
Huh. I have a P and a couple of the Js, all of the non-upgraded persuasions - the sub-$100 ones. I bought my Fender Precision in about 1977, and am not totally unfamiliar with basses in general. These cheapos strike me as pretty good. The nuts are indeed a couple of millimeters too wide, and the strings are too high at the nut. In fact the strings of all instruments I've acquired new in the last fifty years, cheap or expensive, have been too high. I suspect this is because it's easier to lower them than it is to raise them during setup. The Glarry pickups and pots are cheap (obviously) but work well enough, and are not excessively noisy. Some find the neck finishes weird and the bodies too light, but both are OK with me. The most annoying thing is that aftermarket pickguards don't fit very convincingly. I bought the first one as a screwaround instrument for mods, but really haven't found all that much that needs modding. Perhaps I just lucked out and inadvertently received the cream of the production crop.
I gig with a Glarry bass. Minor set up, intonation, lower the strings, new flatwounds and it's gig ready, run thru a SansAmp Para Driver and it rocks. I leave the P and J at home.
My buddy had one of the first gen Glarry jazz basses. He paid like 99 dollars for the bass and the little amp that came with it. It's by no means a great instrument, but it actually wasn't atrocious. I was able to set it up decently and it did the job.

I’d rather trash one of these instead of a quality bass, so this is a good bass for learning, if you want to learn be a luthier. You didn’t mention the pickups, while functional they have maybe 10 winds around the barely magnetic poles. Definitely not quality and I would recommend a Squire or and Ibanez for a beginner bass. Glarry and the other cheap ones you can buy are not cheap after you upgrade them to make them playable. But I’d still rather trash one of these learning to mod over another brand. Good honest video!👍

You rarely get a bass fully set up and playing like a dream out the box. Its also not a kids bass. Adult wants to learn so buys one, goes on youtube for some lessons, finds out from one of the expert tutors that you need a set up for your bass to play well, begginer looks up how to set a bass up, learns how to set their bass up. And so begins the journey and maybe a lovely fender in time..or if you find that playing just aint for you, you pop it into your local charity shop, and only a few $$ lost. Glarry bass' are not a terrible at all, certainly not the demon portraid in this review. The PU are decent 8-9k on average and zippo hum, they even have a bit of shielding. The tuners are 1-26 ratio (on the pb) and keep tune well. As for the woodwork, you can spend a fortune and be unhappy with the weight, feel etc.
I find your review funny as hell. It not hard to see your review is meant to raise the hair on the back of most people. I have the same bass you reviewed. I did not buy a $ 80 bass & Pay $150 for it to start off with. So l knew right off were your review was headed. But I will Say it was very entertaining to say the least.🤪😂
I don't like how the pole pieces on the pickups stick out. Pull the frets and have a little fretless fun, maybe...or throw some trucks on it and do some kickflips...

BTW, none of this makes sense, but I had my reasons. That bass sounds great, even with the singlecoils...Then, I thought a "no holds or words barred" take on a Glarry Jazz II, which was collecting dust and not paying rent, would be perfectly reviewed by our boy Floof...I only bought it for the body, really, to have a 'couch' fretless and I was immediately... well, what Floof said. Maybe we could send it around the Bullpen and let everyone put their mod to it...or not... Jk, if you strum it and it responds...is it not a musical instrument? I will say it was an upgraded POS, shame on g Larry. Also why I'm looking for the right short scale. Sorry long text. Rum

It might be good for heavily modding as well as art projects. Maybe take a rasp to the neck and body then paint it with a crazy paint job

Honestly, that's perfectly ok and I'm glad it works for you. For me personally I don't find it to be a good, intuitive beginner instrument.
