I try to give every manufacturer the benefit of the doubt. Most guitars I get from manufacturers in China etc, are at least playable. I've emailed Glarry to see if they'll make things right. We will see what happens. So frustrating...
I'm guessing they're just not good at the SH stuff, or you got a lemon which I've had happen with higher end brands as well. I bought their strat copy and have 0 complaints for the price. I spent a little money putting locking tuners and a rails humbucker in the bridge position and I love it. I'm probably going to buy their tele-style too just to have one (I'm not usually one to play things a tele is great for). My 7yo is using that strat to learn right now and if he drops it a few times or something I'm not going to freak out like I would if it was my LP or SG or even my NJ Warlock.
@@captainnibby Agree with everything you wrote. Bought one also for beginner. Had to make a few adjustments,Which price point easily covered. If drop, Happens with kids. What did this guy thing a gig ready guitar for this price point.
I own several Garry guitars because they’re the least expensive of all the China guitars I’ve found. That said, most of them require a bit of love when they arrive. Yours is no different. But it has the bones to be a great player. You just need bit of know how beyond just setting it up. For a diy-er like me, it’s an awesome brand that’s well worth the money.
Beginner here. I have an $85 Glarry ST strat copy, with a flawless deep blue finish. Adjusted G string intonation, lowered the strings, changed to flatwound D'Addario EXPs..It's 50% lighter than my Epiphone LP 2. Plays fairly well, its a good starter guitar. Could use a really good amp to express its darker side. Sounds mean with lots of overdrive, on rear pickup. Easier on the wallet by far. 🎯
why don't you work harder ,& save up your money, & buy a better guitar ,or the guitar of your dreams ? why do you hold yourself to lower expectations? I don't believe anyone that tells me that they love their Glarry..
I bought a Glarry Tele and Strat just out of curiosity about a year ago They both needed a set-up and some fretwork, but then...they were fine. They played well enough and sounded pretty good. They are dirt cheap "junker" guitars that just require a bit of work. You can't compare them to anything like a Gibson. Or even a Harley Benton. But...they are a good training tool to learn tech skills. The only people who moan and bitch about them are cork sniffer guitar snobs and people who are unable to do simple tech work.
I agree, most of the time you get what you pay for, i am fussy over any imperfections in the finish, but if it is blemish free, i am more than capable of correcting any issues with the setup, with a few upgrades a good sample of most budget priced guitars are fine.
Yes agree 100% - I bought a thinline Tele off them last year to practise my setup skills and to upgrade. To be honest, out of the box it wasn't terrible. It was a Tele though and they must be the hardest guitar to screw up lol as they are so wonderfully basic in design and electronics. After a setup, graphtec nut and decent strings, I actually got quite affectionate about the guitar. A few friends played it and were impressed as well. In the end I donated it to a project for kids who can't afford musical gear so it went to a good home. However, I would not trust a semi-acoustic from Glarry - especially after seeing this video. My latest cheap as it gets purchase was a Fazley Telecaster (www.bax-shop.co.uk/electric-guitars/fazley ) but not sure if available in USA/Canada yet? Much better but dusty as hell out of the factory. I've got some Fender Tex-Mex pups I'm gonna sling in it today (although the fitted ones are not terrible). It's fun getting these cheap guitars from China and you can bet that in a few years, they'll get better and better as they sort out QA and other issues.
@@martin-1965 Thanks for the tip on the Fazley guitars, i live in the UK, so i will take a look at them. I like buying good samples of budget guitars and upgrading them to make them play at their best, underneath the cheap parts there is a a guitar worth saving. Re the guitars from China, i wsa lucky to find a new unplayed Eart E-3S on ebay at a low price, the fretwork was excellent with stainless steel rolled edge frets, it played well out of the box, so they are getting better.
I think there is a bell curve of diminishing returns. I wouldn't expect anything from a bargain basement guitar, so would be very forgiving over certain easily fixable issues on something sub $100 or $200. But there are plenty of sub $200 which are decent, though not perfect. Between $300 and $500, you should be getting an out of the box playable guitar with minor setup and tuning. $500 to $1k should be an outstanding guitar. After $1k it'd be hard for me to justify what makes it 3 times better than a $300 guitar that I can't upgrade myself for less.
Pretty much any Glarry guitar I've gotten has major issues. Tried their Ovation style recently. First sent the nut was terrible and looks like they took a knife to the binding near the controls. Figure replace the nut and it'll at least be playable. Sent me a replacement to make it right and this one the bridge had the same knife cutout the binding had on the first and the saddle was leaning heavily forward. Told them I was worried about trying again and they offered to refund $80. Figure I'll grab a new bridge/saddle and replace it but still.... To their credit though I've bought a few basses and those look and sound nice even if a bit light because of the basswood.
LOL I tried a Glarry Strat a year or so ago. Only b'c it was on one of those blow-out sales.... and I must have gotten it for like $59 or $69 or something. I figured... what the heck. I'll have some spare parts if it's as bad as I thought it might be. And.... it was. Maybe worse. Body was finished nearly perfectly, and was pretty, actually. But I think it weighs about a pound. Like it's made of balsa wood. LOL Neck is playable, but weird. Feels like it's plastic, or some sort of resin. I don't think it's actual wood. I was surprised tho - it was "reasonably" playable. Overall.... just a total hunk of junk. Not much cash lost. But I won't ever try another.
Thanks for making me laugh today and reminding me of those little balsa wood toy planes we used to get with our soda an candy bar at the bodaga on the corner.👍
These Glarry SH guitars came out at about the same time I was on the market for a semi. I was on a budget so these definitely looked enticing. Good thing I came across a used Ibanez AS73, it was pretty beat up but went to town on it and made it playable. I guess with it comes to these type of guitars it's a safer bet to go for an Epiphone, Ibanez, something around that price-range.
The maple neck Tele sounded a bit brighter....or, clearer...where the rosewood maybe a but muddier sounding...Then again, ask me tomorrow, and it could be different.
The mindblowing part is they approached you for a review. You'd think they would have bent over backwards to make sure you got something near perfect. I know they have good ones. When I returned one, the replacement was near flawless. Now, all the crap under the finish/clearcoat, I had that happen with Grote, even the replacement had it.
Glary isn't the only ones shipping crap these days. I returned a dark night strat that had a chip in the finish at the neck pocket, ordered the same guitar in mercury with maple neck. That one arrived 3 days ago and was absolutely beautiful until a went to play it. The string slots were cut too deep and the B string was rubbing on the first fret wire! The set up was fine but rendered the guitar unplayable as the intonation was off the chart. Returned that one too, sadly. At 1700 bucks fender should never have shipped either one in that condition. Scratching my head, I think maybe the player series is a better value by far. After 30 years playing fenders I truly believe QC has gone to shit!
Glarry seem to be the bottom of the barrel when it comes to badly made and finished guitars. I dread to think what conditions these are made in, the air must be full of debri that sticks to the guitar as they spray them. I have just rejected an Ibanez Gio GRX70QA bought from Amazon, it was delivered in only the Ibanez box and had been roughly handled in shipping, the protective sleeve had been punched through resulting it many scuffs to the finish. On top of that it was almost unplayable, the action was like a wedge of cheese with at least a 3mm gap at the 12th fret. Lesson learned, i will buy the replacement from a dealer where i can see what i am buying. Good luck with trying to get a good sample from Glarry.
The Glarry has some "glaring" problems start to finish. How are they still in business? Blue Tele sounded more harsh than the white. White was more tame, tone -wise.
I'm SHOCKED! A $100 guitar from China is crap?! Yet I've seen several reviews on these guitars. I'm so sick of these 1 to 2 hundred dollar reviews I just go past them. Yet they sell and sell and sell and sell. And why does America not manufacture anything any more? Save a few bucks and buy a guitar from ANYWHERE but China. America would be preferred but I get the ridiculous prices from Fender or Gibson.
I'm no China lover believe me but a country doesn't make anything. I have a Epiphone Les Paul custom Pro that is absolutely perfect. Built in China. I also recently bought a Glarry 335 clone wasn't bad at all. Although I must admit I bought it with the intention of replacing everything on it. Provided the neck and body were okay and they were. I paid 133 dollars for the 3:35 ish and $500 for the Epiphone about 8 years ago. I'm 64 years old and I've played since I was about eight I'm no Stevie Ray or Robin Trower but I have been paid to play. I've owned many guitar brands and the only one I've kept over the years is a Kramer aluminum neck that I unfortunately swapped out the pickups for DiMarzio super Distortion back in the 80s. They're great but I lost the originals. What do you want for a hundred bucks? Too many TH-cam snobs out there these days. Spend the money or spend the time learning how to tidy up a cheap guitar and quit whining
I bet the guy who was told to get the guitar ready to send to you was pissed at the company and deliberately sent a really fucked up guitar so you would give them a bad review!. most of the guitar reviewers usually love the glarry guitars
I think the maple sounded better… but I think it was because you enjoyed it more. There’s definitely something with sound when a musician makes a special connection.
I have a Glarry "tweed" case if you could call it that. It is so cheap in every regard that every time I look over and see it, it brings down my entire collection. It's hardly worth selling, but I am going to try. CrossRock cases rule.
I wouldn't say that because I have seen a lot of reviews on glarry a lot of people said that it was a good guitar so I don't really know what video's you watched
Rich, that has to be the best opening to any vid I've seen yet, lol! (The delivery was priceless)Seen a lot of mixed reviews for this brand, so far there seems to be some improvement in quality control.
My Glarry bass was good but holy rubbing compound everywhere on the inside hahaha, mine was also packaged a lot better? It was in a styrofoam case inside a box and then another box.
You guys have all played enough and owned enough guitars to know that when you subtract the cost of the cheap bag the strap and other things you can’t expect too much from a cheaply made guitar They cost them very little too make What kind of guitar can they offer ?
Well listening at a glance, whatever that means. Maybe without really trying to compare the two, I think the maple neck Tele sounded better. I’m not saying because you did, I heard I think a more articulate sound. I think it sounded more lively. But I do love that blue tele also. I own a few telecasters, one is 90’s Fender USA, one is butterscotch Squier CV, and one is Semi Hollow lite blue thin line Firefly. The Firefly I thought I’d modify but never have. I’m thinking for it maybe upgrade the bridge, pick ups and tuners. Usual stuff I guess. Fretwork and maybe refinish the neck and body. As usual great guitar comparisons and info. Peace out Rich!
The scratches on the back you probably but in yourself when you wiped it with the dry cloth. Guitar, furniture or car you never wipe dust or dirt with a dry cloth.
Glarry makes decent Strats and Teles, but most of their other guitars are garbage. The GT102 Ovation imitation is pretty good. If you want a nice 335 imitation, get yourself a Firefly 338. I love mine. They're excellent playing instruments and they're like $200.
"So, this Glarry isn't worth even talking about but I just happen to have these two Tele's...." At least the day wasn't wasted. LOL. We should all have alternatives like that when we encounter a disappointment. I see this video was from a year ago. Did Glarry eventually send you a better guitar?
Send me that guitar Rich and I'll give it a proper setup for free and send it back to you. I've never seen a guitar that I couldn't get playing reasonably well after setting it up and I've turned a lot of no-name pawn shop junk into very playable guitars.
Glarry discontinued this guitar because they couldn't get it right. There were more issues than just the setup. In short. That guitar should have never left the factory. I honestly don't think it could be set up, that's how bad it was.
this makes sense NO wonder in my opinion so many Musician's that use those live at Gigs sound so horrible . Makes sense that the Music is so awful.. who would buy this in my opinion? a 3rd rate Hack Musician ,or some tone deaf person that thinks those are great . this guitar in my opinion is based on the adage of low expectations.. Let's build a knock off of America's best guitars on the cheap... who built this , the Chicom in a sweat shop?
I bought that Glarry semi-hollow, same exact one, same finish, about 6 months ago when they were first offered. Let me say I do all my own repair and build work. I have for about 40 years. It was a real pos right out of the box. Horrible finish, frets and electronics. No kerfing at all!! The body block was really rough. I didn't have anything else to do so I went to work. Complete fret level done. Replaced the electronics, including pickups with a set of Epiphone Probuckers I had. Cleaned up the body as best I could though it was a pain in the axx to get the cloudiness out. Replaced the too big pick-guard with a Les Paul pick-guard which looks a lot better. Oh, and replaced the nut as it was badly cut. It is now an acceptable playing guitar, no where near my best. But it looks and sounds much better as it wasn't even playable. NOT a guitar I could recommend to anyone.
Garry need to stop giving guitars for free to people that are just going to bash them how about giving guitars to kids or teenagers or even people on low income that can't afford a guitar but have always wanted a guitar and to learn to play.
If Glarry gave this guitar to a kid, they would have wanted to quit playing the guitar. I wasn't bashing the guitar. It was literally that bad, and i was being honest. It was garbage. I asked Glarry to make it right by sending me a playable guitar, and they didn't. I get lots of budget guitars that are great. This one was far from playable.
@@RichBischoff well there's a video were a guy bought one and he told Garry the issues Larry gave him 70% money back he sent it to a shop the shop had new strings put on a new bridge better pickups adjusted the neck and action and did a great job on it the shop guy said it was a pretty good guitar after that.im buying one cous the price is right for it to get beat up bouncing around my semi.
knock it off dude. you said *how about giving guitars to kids or teenagers or even people on low income that can't afford a guitar but have always wanted a guitar and to learn to play* what do you mean? low income people can go to any pawn shop or buy a used guitar on a low budget from a local shop that is built better.. I've bought tons of used Gear like Ibanez in that 200 range & are far better in shape this this Glarry nonsense in my opinion. the thing about Glarry is based on the low expectation model of doing business. NOBODY not even a poor person deserves this nonsense guitar in my opinion
Funny how every other reviewer of Glarry guitars like them. Probably because they understand what they are and they set them up propperly. Then they love them.
boy hell naw,i bought this new glarry with inclosed pick ups and i have to say if your making ambient dark music like Black Metal and Post punk,Dark wave DUDE!!! BUY THIS GUITAR!!! i made a badass burzum like balck metal project and it sounds way better than i thought
Great video as always Rich! Dig both the Nashville teles. I couldn’t really tell a huge difference in tone but they both sounded great. I agree that the Glarrys are garbage compared to monoprice and some of the other budget guitars..at least in their QC. Thanks again for what you do man!
They really aren't that bad I had one the pick ups don't really have very good output but they aren't terrible they only run around 80 dollar's and they aren't bad for the price they are at least as good as a BC Rich Bronze series guitar and those are around 200$ and I can't believe people actually pay that much for one BC Rich bronze series are only worth about a hundred and forty dollars at the most Glarry aren't that bad I would buy another one and change our the pickups to something better than what they have but yes they are worth 80 dollar's for one no doubt.
I thought Gibson was the most disliked brand on the internet.. (not by me though). As for the NT’s, I liked the sound of the blue one better, sounded swampier and more soulful, jmho.
Well pardner, aren't you glad I didn't spoil it for you? I don't know how much that 335 is, but if it's more than $3.35 it's too much. Wall of shame material indeed.
I would not buy a glary not over finishing. In cheep guitars i care about playability. I wouldnt expect either thing in that price point. I think those are the kind of guitars people give kids when they dont think the kids will actually play
I like the sound of the blue one better. Both are awesome. Ole' blue is just a little brighter, tone wise. Sweetwater is the absolute best! Glarry still sux. You rock. God bless you brother.☺🎼🎸💜👍
You couldn't bring that action down if you can't do that and tune it and make it playable you don't know what you're doing. And the way you wipe the back of the guitar with that dirty rag and he said well look it's got scratches yeah you scratched it up with the rag. You're not too Swift Clyde, can't bring the action down on a guitar you can't tune the guitar what's wrong with you Jack?
Haha come get the guitar from me. I'll let set it up and do a video. It's unsetupable... I did everything I could, so your not swift at all if you watched this video and didn't believe the guitar was garbage. Give me a break guy with no user name or content.
i guess even the made in china fake gibson/fenders guitars are better then these glary and donner guitars , wich would be fair because there also more expensive : ) , but for real , save yourself a shitload of trouble and just buy an 2e hand squire or epiphone if you're on a bugdet an you will at least have an nice well made guitar .

That Glarry is so bad I bet they don't want it returned.
Wouldnt waste my time returning it.
The scratches on the back you probably but in yourself when you wiped it with the dry cloth. Guitar, furniture or car you never wipe dust or dirt with a dry cloth.
🤣
@@RichBischoff Sorry!
If Glarry aren't the (price) point of diminishing returns, you can sure see it from there.
Glarry makes decent Strats and Teles, but most of their other guitars are garbage. The GT102 Ovation imitation is pretty good.
If you want a nice 335 imitation, get yourself a Firefly 338. I love mine. They're excellent playing instruments and they're like $200.
Looks like a relic job comes at no cost from Glarry.
Truth, I wouldn't mind that if it were actually playable.
"So, this Glarry isn't worth even talking about but I just happen to have these two Tele's...." At least the day wasn't wasted. LOL. We should all have alternatives like that when we encounter a disappointment. I see this video was from a year ago. Did Glarry eventually send you a better guitar?
They did not send me a another guitar.
Nuts on the first guitar. But the pair you played next sounded great, at first i thought I could tell a bit of tone difference but it's tricky .
Send me that guitar Rich and I'll give it a proper setup for free and send it back to you. I've never seen a guitar that I couldn't get playing reasonably well after setting it up and I've turned a lot of no-name pawn shop junk into very playable guitars.
Shoot me an email.
I'd love to see this outcome over the Glarry replacement!
I'll stand with Glarry. They make some of the best budget guitars imo. For $70 it sounds like a gem honestly.
I have two glarry guitars and i like them
Got them on sale..
NOT a guitar I could recommend to anyone.
another rich and entitled person
I liked the video by the time it fell over on your porch!!
3:20 Nasty fck.
Love the Blue one Rich! Cheers from Salem, Ohio!
Funny how every other reviewer of Glarry guitars like them. Probably because they understand what they are and they set them up propperly. Then they love them.
Except this one was garbage, and there was no way of setting it up because it was so bad.
I think the white Tele sounds better to my ears, but I like the look of the blue one withe rosewood fretboard FWIW. GLARRY 🤑
boy hell naw,i bought this new glarry with inclosed pick ups and i have to say if your making ambient dark music like Black Metal and Post punk,Dark wave DUDE!!!
Awesome video man. Sad to see Glarry hit a snag on new models. Haha. Awesome Teles. I always wanted one of those types.
That Glarry guitar could make an interesting project for someone!.. Nashville maple Telecaster sounds immense!🎸
Glarry turned out to be crap? Damn. I guess there's always First Act. 😂
Atleast one mistake I didn't make and glad of that.
Lucky it was a cheap Glarry 🤣 imagine a Gibson beeing shipped in this state after spending your hard earned savings
Good to practice dressing frets on. That’s about it with these.
👍🏻👍🏻
I thought Gibson was the most disliked brand on the internet.. (not by me though). As for the NT’s, I liked the sound of the blue one better, sounded swampier and more soulful, jmho.
Well pardner, aren't you glad I didn't spoil it for you? I don't know how much that 335 is, but if it's more than $3.35 it's too much. Wall of shame material indeed.
Thinking about making it into a coat rack, lampshade or towel rack.
@@RichBischoff Great idea, I actually fixed the one we got and after adding the explosives I never noticed another issue with it.
Ha!
I would not buy a glary not over finishing. In cheep guitars i care about playability. I wouldnt expect either thing in that price point. I think those are the kind of guitars people give kids when they dont think the kids will actually play
Yes!
I agree on your tele opinion
I like the sound of the blue one better. Both are awesome. Ole' blue is just a little brighter, tone wise. Sweetwater is the absolute best!
Glarry still sux. You rock. God bless you brother.☺🎼🎸💜👍
I would rather play a guitar shaped turd than play a Glarry
I love when a guy buys the cheapest guitar he can find and then complains about the finish.
I didn't buy it. Was sent to me to review. You apparently didn't watch the whole vid...
@@RichBischoff I watched as much as I could.
I got 3 glarry they are perfect good guitars
Good for you. This one was not.
It looked like a flyswatter in the shape of an Es 335.
LOL finally a honest review on a nary Glarry 🍋
Minor stuff
Nope, major stuff. Unplayable garbage.
i guess even the made in china fake gibson/fenders guitars are better then these glary and donner guitars , wich would be fair because there also more expensive : ) , but for real , save yourself a shitload of trouble and just buy an 2e hand squire or epiphone if you're on a bugdet an you will at least have an nice well made guitar .
Salvage the metal hardware and use the wooden body and neck to light an Independence Day bonfire!
