The book that just came out for Exodus is amazing too, the idea for the world and the potential on offer is for sure Mass Effect level and in my opinion even better. This universe could rival Star Wars, Dune, Mass Effect, etc without question. Only issue I see with Exodus is the team being so small. The game might be absolutely fantastic but the big triple AAA jugernaught series like the original Mass Effect will probably take some time to build.
honestly when i watched the first big trailer i instantly thought of the Nexus / ARKs they built for Andromeda. Like Casey had this idea cooked up and then got forced off the game by EA to do anthem instead and the C or B team that took over andromeda did their own thing using his original plot ideas.
Having a small team of skilled guys with a hard work ethic is a must then. Look at the huge studios spending millions on lazy people who take forever to get anything done..and their work is still crap.
I personally think that a small team is a strength, not a weakness. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind had a dev team of 40 people, Oblivion had a dev team of 70 people, and for Skyrim it was about 100. Kotor 2 had a dev team of about 30 people. Dragon Age: Origins had about 180 people working on it in total, which means the core team was probably closer to 100. The Witcher 3 and BG3 both had larger dev teams, but in both cases the team started out small and only grew after all the story and concepts were pretty much done and it was time to build the game. From what I could see online, Archetype Entertainment has just over 100 people working on the game, so I would say it's in a pretty sweet spot.
@@wardeni4806 ah I could be wrong from what I saw it was under 50. I think smaller teams are good too, you just need quality people with 10x the work ethic rather than lots of alright people. The issue with modern games is for example with things like assets and art you need tons of bodies to even get the work done. After reading the Exodus book you realize how much potential the universe has becuase of it's grand scale. Part of what would make the perfect game in this setting is sadly something with a Baldur's Gate 3 amount of content, because in the book all the different celestials and ideas that come to life are part of what makes it awesome, which cant realistically be done without hundreds of people working for years on stuff.
The best part of te Exodus lore is: all Celestials are basically just evolved humans. They just arrived millenia before you. Extremely excited for this game.
@Xenotaris Because that opens the door for gods, angels, demons, religion, the "supernatural" of an Ancient Aliens flavor where all the gods and magic are aliens and technology, and that wets the bed on the anthrocentric and irreligious story some people crave about us being alone in the universe with nobody up above, just us growing up as a species purely on our own without religion or aliens as the Emperor intended.

If I was the head of Lucas films, I would hire Drew Karpyshyn (the lead writer on this game) to write a Star Wars trilogy. Drew Karpyshyn has written some of my favorite story’s in the Star Wars universe. KoToR 1, the Revan novels and the Bane Trilogy. He was also the lead writer on Mass Effect 1 and 2. His style is dark, yet philosophical. He not only makes you emotionally invested in the characters, but the force itself. The stories are Mysteries filled to the brim with action. He understands how to craft a compelling story that grips you from beginning to end. He understands Star Wars and its mythos while expanding on its themes in a respectful way.
Karpyshyn and Zahn should have been the lore keepers and writing directors for Disney SW from day 1. Too late for SW at this point if it remains in Disneys hands though.
@8:08 I totally agree. I’ve been finally playing the ME Legendary Editions and it’s still such an amazing trilogy, with the music definitely being a part of that.
I'm reading the book, it's really good. Looks like the whole lore is well thought out. It also feels slightly different than everything I've seen before, more like a mix of interesting scifi ideas. If they don't screw up the gameplay it could be a great game. I am more optimistic about Exodus than new Mass Effect.
WotC, my goodness... that isn't even a lateral move for those employees. The stories I've read about WotC don't exactly instill confidence. Not to mention, I believe they were purchased by Hasbro some time ago. Can't imagine a scenario in which Hasbro doesn't interfere to secure their abysmal bottom line.
Dragon Age Origins was created because WoTC were too controlling when Bioware were making Neverwinter Nights, they'll get told what to make again and won't be given the freedom to choose.
I just started playing Star Wars The Old Republic the last couple of weeks and I’m very impressed by “old bioware”. They were on such a good path with this game and all-of-a-sudden start spiraling downward in terms of quality of content/story-writing. I like SWTOR so much that I usually leave the menu screen open while completing house-tasks so I have the classic Star Wars theme songs playing in the background
@@Veritas.0 The first SWTOR game was good though. It was in the spirit of `old´ Bioware in that the class stories were very good. Alas, it fell apart after the base game.
I'm beyond excited for Exodus. I'm about half way thru the book from Peter F. Hamilton, and it has me even more excited. I love the concept of time dilation, and I cant wait to see how they incorporate this into the game using choice and consequence. It could truely be epic. The Celeatials are ancient humans, some of the first to make the trip and have essentially evolved into something more alien. This could be epic, and I can't wait to see more.
the time dilation may just kinda remove the player too much from what is happening though. hard to care for something millenia in the past or future. it's essentially just the end game cinematic cut into smaller parts and given during the game rather than at the end.
I am sad that Casey Hudsons Humanoid studios and Macs studio closed basically together. So two sci fi games i was really interested in are basically gone now.. The ‘celestials’ are technically not aliens. They all originated as humans on Earth, but over tens of thousands of years on new planets have evolved into new species (some via genetic engineering). I’m planning to get the book - it sounds like a really interesting premise
I will say, I absolutely love the book and the prequel stories. My only fear is that what we get in the game will not live up to the lore building from the supplemental stuff.
According to the wiki: (About silicate) "The merging of human and silicate creates a new being, known as a daemon." I mean, considering the fact the main antagonists seem to be theses Celestials, Celestials vs Daemons feels like a wink at DnD. It's only speculation for now but it seems kind of obvious and would explain why the devs are reticent about defining our char as a human.

I really loved Veilguard. Bearing in mind i didn't engage with Taash quests (so i missed all that cringe), and i was "ok" with it being more like ME3 in thedas than DA0/2. The main story was actually great. My biggest issue was the bubble-wrapped companion dialogue, with all the grit and conflict removed, for fear of "triggering" people. Also, you know, thedas is a dangerous place on a good day! With slavery and the qun and demon possession, and extreme racial prejudice and blood magic. And all that was missing too. Again they were being too safe. Aside from that i had a blast. And i did manage to make a gorgeous Rook who i enjoyed looking at for 50 hours. And the cinematography and facial animations were very good for the main events. I dont know what to expect for ME5. For me the writing matters. And if ME5 is mostly written already, in a time where bioware are afraid to "trigger people" and insist on using 2020's california gender language, then it might suffer the same problems as veilguard. If it is not yet written, then theres a good chance they can take lessons for veilguard and let ME5 have actual conflict in it. Either way, i am excited for Exodus. Really cannot wait. And i will probably play ME5 on relese, with reasonable expectations.❤
That was also my problem with Veilguard. The game itself is fun to play and enjoyable. The overall story is good as well. But it’s just soooooo vanilla. A remotely sarcastic comment is a bad as it gets. Well, and knocking someone out once. I played as a crow which are basically assassins. It was treated like it was nothing. If they just added a few more dialogue options and made Taash a bearable character, I think the reviews might’ve been much better.
I have not started to watch this video yet, BUT I AM SOOOO HYPE for this. The lore videos on their youtube started like 1 month ago or something. The writers for this is same dude as MASS EFFECT 1 and 2, omg. I am extremely hyped, but i am worried this will get lost in corporate ladders. The deal with Wotc for this project was that leader ship at Archetype Entertainment would have FULL creative lead and rights, They got them so the exedus studio started the project. It was somewhere in the articles when this project started. What i mean is that, the worry about Wotc is lessened by the deal made for money and publishing. This writer Drew Karpyshyn is and OG, left Bioware when EA aquired it, worked on his Novels Chaos Born. Got good deal on exedus went to old friends, to build something execiting. I believe the lore and story and storytelling will be good, the gameplay looked "ok" on pre-aplha release. Only thing i am worried is Matthew McConaughey. Celebs might be after payday instead of love of work and story telling, i do also believe he is professional. Also there was talk about how the CHOICES you make in the game, was said that "New Game from Former Mass Effect Dev Includes Choices That Play Out Over the Course of 'Decades'" This implies that your choices would have a meaning. Hype is 8/10 at this moment, waiting for proper gameplay reveal. edit: Exodus, a new game from Archetype Entertainment, will feature a unique time dilation mechanic, allowing players to see the consequences of their choices over the span of years, decades, and centuries. The core of the game revolves around time dilation, which is the difference in how time is perceived based on relative motion or gravitational field positions. This mechanic fits well with the game's focus on space travel. Inspired by Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, Exodus aims to create a cerebral narrative concept that pushes the boundaries of video games. With industry veterans and Matthew McConaughey involved, the game has the potential to redefine the genre.
Cautiously optimistic is the right way to be. I went in and enjoyed Andromeda just because it was more Mass Effect but it wasn't great, replaying the games through the LE just shows how awesome the trilogy was just so fun and engaging

People say bioware isn't the same that brought us mass effect but they also forget industry is not the same. Practices and priorities have changed. Even if those people who left bioware go elsewhere it doesn't guarantee success. Will they make good games, will they have micro transactions, live service, political bs? That's all a huge part in modern gaming . So for all that these people have accomplished succes is not a given. That's why i put so much faith on eastern companies that have a more fresh and genuine approach to gaming. More focus on gameplay, not inserting every activists political beliefs , less aggressive monetisation, less focus on giving ceos huge paychecks, rewarding the actual devs for hard work ( was it elden ring that gave Extra bonuses to devs for the success the game had or wukong, I don't remember) And that's why I'll keep rewarding these practices instead of buying cod after cod.
Modern gaming is trash. It's not the games so much as it is the industry. Though I could add more, you have provided enough information to justify this conclusion.
This was a good meeting. I must admit to being a tad bit super hyped for this game. Its story reveals, characters and art design are tickling my imagination hard. Planning to get the book for Christmas. Having said all that I am a true "no preorder" believer before anything. A lesson learned over many years. I will wait for proof of reasonably greatness before buying.
When I saw this game I wasn’t really looking deep at the development it was just kinda weird now I’m really excited for it hopefully we see something new at the game awards .
I see this resetting of the AAA gaming industry as an opportunity. While These AAA studios become bloated and go for identity politics, quite a few devs are joining new studios, and want to focus on the game rather than on politics. Getting to know these studios is exactly the exciting news that I am looking for. Where did Witcher 3 devs go? To form 2 new studios: "Studio Blank" and "Rebel Wolves". And then we get new studios creating things like Tainted grail: Fall of avalon the indie version of Skyrim, and so on. In the last few years, this is where most of my fun has been: Outward, Tainted Grail, Valheim, outer wilds, V rising and so on. Smaller studios releasing addictive games while larger bloated studios miss the mark. Looking forward to know more of these new and lesser known studios! Exciting times, exciting times!
I am optimistic about this game, however I do hope that if they find success (which I believe they will), that they'll manage to stay on track. In a lot of cases with these big games and promising studios, the first game is fantastic, but then it's the sequels that really struggle due to mounting pressure from the studio itself, from the fans, and most importantly, the money men who fund it all.
All the “aliens” are technically evolved from humans. They’ve been genetically altered over thousands of years to become separate species. Because of the time dilation effect, human ark ships are arriving in the Centauri cluster tens of thousands of years after the initial wave of humans got there. Those first humans eventually evolved into celestials, the Mara Yama, and dozens of other species.
They've already said that your character is of mixed lineage your mother was part celestial and your father was human That's why they said you can interact with celestial technology.

5:49 how do you expect me to not be unfathomably hyped when this game has art design like this??? Ngl even if the gameplay turns out to be shit, I don't think it could ruin the game for me, the art design and lore all just seem so incredible
I want to believe. I really do. But WotC isn’t a good sign. Maybe they can rise above them, like Baldur’s Gate 3 did.
Dare to hope.
I doubt it... Larian only worked with WotC due to the license... WotC OWNS Archetype Entertainment.
They are quite far in the development. They must be in the beginning of the Alpha stage of the game.
The best part of te Exodus lore is: all Celestials are basically just evolved humans. They just arrived millenia before you. Extremely excited for this game.
how is that the best part? Whats wrong with having aliens?
@Xenotaris Because that opens the door for gods, angels, demons, religion, the "supernatural" of an Ancient Aliens flavor where all the gods and magic are aliens and technology, and that wets the bed on the anthrocentric and irreligious story some people crave about us being alone in the universe with nobody up above, just us growing up as a species purely on our own without religion or aliens as the Emperor intended.
That's actually lame
@@autobotstarscream765 But what if the "Celestials" believe in their own version of God? Also, what if their bersion of God is pretty similar to ours? That just brings us back full circle then...
@@zeezee8558in the book the queen crown celestial does reference a goddess, indicating there still may be some remnants of religious belief if at least not for the service of tradition
Bane trilogy is one of my favorite book series of all time
Karpyshyn and Zahn should have been the lore keepers and writing directors for Disney SW from day 1. Too late for SW at this point if it remains in Disneys hands though.
@@echoesofmalachor3700 spot on.
@@TeamGames19 me too!
Drew is the main reason I am hopeful for this game. WotC better leave him alone.
And they're gone! The Casey Hudson one at least.

I need this game yesterday, today and tomorrow.
That spacecraft from your footage is probably called Normandy sr-3.
Not a bad thing. I'm a fan. 😊
Yep it's a great game
Did you get a chance to play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?
they got bought by EA. shortly before Dragon Age 1 released, everyone left before that came out.
Well, all the writers quit or were fired to save EA money
SWTOR isn't 'old bioware', it's the first of new bioware. KOTOR and original Baldur's Gate is "Old" bioware.
Looking forward to Exodus, also very interested in the group behind Wyrdsong. Need to finally get some good rpgs after BG3.
I am sad that Casey Hudsons Humanoid studios and Macs studio closed basically together. So two sci fi games i was really interested in are basically gone now.. Exodus is the last hope for me since i dunno when/if/how Mass Effect 5 will be and come out. Hope Casey will open a new studio and tries funding with kickstarter maybe...
WotC is a big red flag.
Short of Sweet baby inc or similar, it's the biggest. Wotc basically has sweet baby ink baked into its DNA
You guys are such brain rot. Old BioWare games always been woke and hugely succesful
@@Henbot Revisionist nonsense. You're as dimwitted as those knuckle dragging mouth breathers on reddit that believe whatever is written there.
What was woke about KOTOR? Or original Baldur's Gate?
@@Henbot Because they once had talented writers and designers who didn't think like the current grifters do. Agenda and The Message first, gameplay, story and fun a distant second.

Just got the book for this. It is getting great reviews.
The world is already very fleshed out.
WoTC is at Hasbro’s whim. The greatness of BG1-BG3 is due to the 3rd party studios creativity.
I do think they won't meddle with this game too much, however, if it becomes a big success, then they might try to stick their tentacles all over it just like EA did with BioWare after Mass Effect's success.
Dude just used the word keen unironically and has now earned this subscriber for life 😂 3:00
I'll wait to get excited when I see some actual gameplay. We've been burned so many times I've become very cautious in my older years
Drew is an RPG writer, not a looter shooter multiplayer writer. He was forced to work on Anthem when that’s literally not the type of games he writes for. So anthem doesn’t count in history of games he’s written. He left BioWare for a reason, just like Casey did. They saw where BioWare was heading, they didn’t like the Anthem project and they left. Hell they probably don’t even like EA
I don’t treat all games are like GOTY. I treat all games like concord, anthem, fallout 76. They have to prove that they aren’t trash.
@@IPlayVideoGamesAndNothingElse you have to actually play the games to tell whether or not they're trash
@@ReaperCet no i don't. concord is bad, unknown 9 is bad, dragon age Veil guard is bad, evolve is bad, anthem is bad and i played anthem. i can look at gameplay of games as well as searching for videos of multiple people saying good or bad about games to determine if a game is good or not. I also can recognize things I don't like vs things that are bad. i don't like botw or TotK but they are not bad. I don't like the entire genres of sports, racing, or BR's. I may think they are bad personally but that does not mean they are bad.
@@IPlayVideoGamesAndNothingElse you didn't say "bad" you said trash. That tends to mean that there's nothing redeeming about those games.
You can't get that information from people on the Internet, especially if they're grifting, you have to see for yourself to actually have a valid opinion. Goat simulator is a "bad" game, but there's *some* fun to be had with it and it's worth *some* amount of time and money. It's not _trash_
I can say the same about anthem, and I won't say anything about the other two, because I haven't played those games.
@@ReaperCet in gamer language the terms trash and bad are interchangeable. i pretty much only play video games and watch TH-cam videos. people that comment on video games from multiple platforms use these words to describe a game that is below average and not worth purchasing. look up lotor: Golem and you will find videos saying garbage, terrible, trash, and worst as ways to describe the game. I've never played Golem but its objectively all these things listed about it. it's a buggy mess that has clunky controls boring gameplay and terrible graphics. all of this I can see by doing research on the game instead of listening to people that say you can't judge something you haven't wasted money on.
I cant stop looking at the KOTOR 2 box in the background....
The ‘celestials’ are technically not aliens. They all originated as humans on Earth, but over tens of thousands of years on new planets have evolved into new species (some via genetic engineering). I’m planning to get the book - it sounds like a really interesting premise
I'm about halfway through the book and am getting huuuge 40K vibes and that's not a bad thing.

According to the wiki: (About silicate) "The merging of human and silicate creates a new being, known as a daemon."
I mean, considering the fact the main antagonists seem to be theses Celestials, Celestials vs Daemons feels like a wink at DnD. It's only speculation for now but it seems kind of obvious and would explain why the devs are reticent about defining our char as a human.

Been waiting for somebody bigger to cover this game
I have listened to the book that Peter F Hamilton wrote and now I am reading the physical book now and I am excited for this game, but I hope that they can pull it off.
Serious sci-fi... deep dialogue... lots of important choices +tons of replayability? I am low key hyped.
Low key, huh.
Get the tie-in novel, Exodus: the Archimedes Engine by Peter F. Hamilton. Very cool world building. Great space opera.
They said ME5 will have a darker tone, even darker than the original trilogy.
Choice and consequence can be very important in terms of narrative. Imagine if you could save your gang members in RDR2
Also there was talk about how the CHOICES you make in the game, was said that "New Game from Former Mass Effect Dev Includes Choices That Play Out Over the Course of 'Decades'"
This implies that your choices would have a meaning.
Hype is 8/10 at this moment, waiting for proper gameplay reveal.
edit:
Exodus, a new game from Archetype Entertainment, will feature a unique time dilation mechanic, allowing players to see the consequences of their choices over the span of years, decades, and centuries.

Premise seems cool. I will keep an eye on its development. Hopefully it pans out well.
If you watch any interviews of Callisto Protocol developer he says how much the publisher rushed their project by cutting half of their development time.
I was NOT hyped for Callisto Protocol. It was obvious from the start it was going to be dead space at home. Never looked good. People were just so desperate for another dead space game that they blinded themselves to how bad Callisto Protocol actually looked.
I was about to say I tried to make myself hyped for that game but a part of me just never thought it looked that good. Compare that to dead space which was probably the most hype I had ever felt for a game prior to release that then completely paid off when it came out

Im excited but skeptical of this game , specially they work with wizards of the cost .
Mass Effect drew heavily from a variety of sci-fi themes and homages. While the story stood as a significant element, the game's design also reflected the game director's inclination to incorporate themes from some of his favorite movies and games. The CEO provided the team with a massive budget, granting them creative freedom-on the condition that he was incorporated into the second game in some way 🤣🤣🤣🤣 there will nver be another mass effect
More focus on gameplay, not inserting every activists political beliefs , less aggressive monetisation, less focus on giving ceos huge paychecks, rewarding the actual devs for hard work ( was it elden ring that gave Extra bonuses to devs for the success the game had or wukong, I don't remember)
And that's why I'll keep rewarding these practices instead of buying cod after cod.
Modern gaming is trash. It's not the games so much as it is the industry. Though I could add more, you have provided enough information to justify this conclusion.
This was a good meeting. I must admit to being a tad bit super hyped for this game. Its story reveals, characters and art design are tickling my imagination hard.
I am more hyped for Exodus than for Mass Effect 5. I trust my "old" Bioware developers more than whoever EA hired for the "new" Bioware
If you have a big twist with a character. Don't even say that. Why would you prime people to be looking out for that lol.
Celebs being involved is one red flag. WotC is another. Will watch it with hesitant optimism.
8:40 Omega Centauri isn't a galaxy, it is the biggest globular star cluster in our Milky Way galaxy. The stars there are ancient though.
I discovered this a couple of months ago. I'm super hyped for it. I'm still scared to get my hopes up very much for any video game these days though.
They've already said that your character is of mixed lineage your mother was part celestial and your father was human That's why they said you can interact with celestial technology.
