During the trial when it was Shaun’s lawyer turn to question the plaintiff she stops what’s she’s doing because of the chair squeak. Remember it needs to be in threes. She freezes during the questioning and the trial fails and they get a new one. Same thing happens again with the chair in the next trial but a law partner (the older lady) accompanying her this time helps her by squeaking the chair two more times and she snaps back to reality. Joni cross-examines the amputee plaintiff, finding inconsistencies and hypocrisy in his statements. Although he claims his concern is for his family, she points out that he is not an innocent victim, apparently having no regard for his family when he chose to drive drunk and did not wear a seatbelt. Since a lot of people don't seem to know what happens next and I just happened to see the video short last night ... "The Good Doctor" is the show, and the autistic doctor was being sued by the guy on the witness stand; completely unjustifiably. So ... the standing & speaking defense lawyer has OCD, AND WAS PUTTING FORTH A REALLY, REALLY GOOD ARGUMENT WITH STATED FACTS. She suddenly froze, when she only heard the one loud squeak, & got locked into her OCD about sounds. But she DOES hear two more squeaks = because her mentor/partner lawyer sitting by their client; the blonde - suddenly stood up & made the prosecutor squeak his chair again by shoving it; squeaking his chair two more times. The first time the judge told her she would be held in contempt of court, if she didn't behave herself. But the blond lawyer knew she had to hear that 2nd & 3rd squeak to "unfreeze"; due to the speaking lawyer having OCD (requires repetitious behavior, like Sheldon demonstrates on the Big Bang with his X3 knocks). So the blond just made him in his chair squeak a second time & again, making it so she had her x2 more squeaks to "unfreeze" her. --> Judge fined the partner lawyer $5,000 - which she accepted willingly. They wanted to keep the focus where it needed to be -- but otherwise they could/should have explained to the judge what was going on, but chose not to do so. So since the prosecuting lawyer sitting down - that intentionally made his chair squeak & only x1, because he knew the defense lawyer was making great points & was OCD (related to needing repetitious noises). He was a jerk and a jackass & did it intentionally; playing dirty. And ultimately did not get away with it, due to her mentor/partner that helped; so she still made her points & became unstuck from her ocd. It was her voice, in her own head, repeating "... two more squeaks; 2 more squeaks" The other video short showed all that. It's really too bad that whoever put this video short up did not include that, which is aggravating. Keep watching and it'll probably turn up. As someone with OCD I LOVED this episode because it’s the very few times TV shows accurately portrayed OCD (most tv shows before would have a character that they’d said “oh he has OCD cuz he’s a clean freak & loves to organize & clean stuff” & never talked about the repetitive thoughts, or doing the same thing multiple times , repetitively & counting , obsessing over it, having an irrational fear & irrational thoughts, etc) TV shows never show that side of OCD, for years everyone would make those jokes like “oh I must have OCD cuz I love to organize or clean”. Mostly cuz of tv shows & people assuming that OCD “means u like to clean or organize stuff” so it’s cool to see tv shows do it right & bring awareness to what OCD really is
In Australia there’s a law that protects first responders (the first person to act) against being sued for physical harm It’s called the “Good Samaritan act”

Happens in real life. I've seen cases where a person saved another person's life with CPR and that person caught a cold and sued his life saver. I've saved a few people in my time and feared being sued. I say stop saving people. Look away because they'll sue you.
If you are in the US there’s a thing called the Good Samaritan law. That means you can’t be sued by the person you tried to save even if you cause damage to them
there was a story in China when a man saved and catch the girl who jump from the building to commit su*cide. After catch the girl, the man have broken bones, paralyzed, loses his job because he is in hospital, and this girl has audicity to sue him over her pain. yes, some people is not deserved to be saved
I worked in the hospital. A patient’s family tried to sue the hospital because the patient’s ribs were broken during CPR. His life was saved but the broken rib was in their opinion was too much.
Some people think it protects all you do in incidents but it doesn't. I'm not familar with the scene here and what the doctor did while saving this guy's life but you can absolutely be sued for things you did even if you think it's covered under your areas Good Samaritan laws. Some of it boils down to your existing qualifications. A sort of you should have known better instance. As a paramedic if I ran up to an incident scene and started doing things out of my scope of practice I could most definitaly get sued for injuries caused to the party I was trying to help.
“two more squeaks”?!? i’m just waiting for trudeau to renege on that “good samaritan” law as some might find it judgy and offensive. if there’s a will to screw people, trudeau will find a way.
It comes down to negligence if you do help. The law also protects those that don’t help because they wern’t qualified or felt for their own safety in coming to someone’s aid.
No medical professional here. Outside of work we are all protected by the hood samaritan law but there is no law that states we have to render aide in an emergency situation when we’re off the clock.
@@leannahockett6011 I believe it’s an Indiana law that I’m thinking where if you can give life saving aid to someone (ie a car accident) then you just can’t drive on by unless danger in doing so is present, but if you can call emergency services and stand by, you can be held accountable if you don’t. I would think every State, Province, territory would have something similar.
You have no obligation to render aid to ANYONE, you have freedoms in the United States. The worst laws regarding this require you to call emergency services but NEVER force you to render aid. Nor should they, not only would that be taking away your freedoms with a law, but would be opening you up to a ton of lawsuits and criminal charges. You shouldn't ever help any person in medical distress. That isn't your job and ONLY bad will come from it.
@@Once_in_a_Lifetime Very few states have that type of horrible law, but yes, a couple of them do. The other part is how do they prove you were there? How do they prove that you knew they were in distress? How do they prove that you knew that no one else had already called emergency services? It is a really sticky law to have let alone enforce. You lose a TON of freedoms with the amount of assumptions they would be making to ticket/arrest you for that "crime". That is completely setting aside the fact it strips your right to autonomy. Is it the morally correct thing to do to call EMS? Sure, but that doesn't mean you should be forced to. It is also morally correct to render aid in any way you can, but that is the most stupid decision you could possibly make in your entire life. Freedom of choice is more important than one asshole's life.
@@ashber68 really? Just an example, if a Soldier were walking down the street and someone got shot and he rendered first aid to attempt to stop the bleeding but the person was still paralyzed from the waist down, would it be reasonable to sue the soldier because the shooter didn’t intend on shooting the victim?
Exactly. All these braindead parrots saying "All 50 states and DC have it and it protects you in all of them. Hurr Durr" It varies state to state and very rarely if ever protects you like they think it does. Also what it NEVER does is prevents them from suing you for damages. They can always do that. Whether it will go anywhere or not is a different matter, but they have the right to sue.
It’s very interesting cuz with OCD I’m usually stuck in my own head & I don’t realize what it looks like to the outside world , like someone watching me. Plus this episode was a pretty accurate representation of OCD. Most of the time “OCD” on tv shows used to be like “oh that character is just a clean freak & loves to organize” & never showing OCD accurately like the repetitive thoughts, obsessively counting & doing things that might not make any rational sense, etc.. so I really loved the fact this episode highlighted an accurate portrayal of OCD👏🏽 plus Kennedy Mcmann is an amazing actress that made her character feel so real

I work in medicine myself, and have had a patient try to sue me. Obese patient. Bit a CNA so badly she ended up having to take early medical retirement, due to the damage to her hand. We had to restrain, and partially sedate the patient for staff safety. Family undid the restraints, and let the patient try to walk to the bathroom (she had a catheter in place). As the patient started to fall, i instinctively tried to catch her. I suffered multiple ligament injuries, a crushed vertebra, three ruptured discs, and four torn muscles. I needed 21 surgeries, and 7 years of physical rehab, to get back to 75% of mobility. She sued me, because i made her feel bad and depressed about her weight.

You missed the point. She has OCD, and the other lawyer knows about this and every time she starts making good points that counters his own he does that to shut down her train of thought. Though I believe in this something happened to cause two more squeaks and she resumed as if she never stopped.
@@TAiiNE I get the point. As a professional, she needs to find a solution to those problems. As for the squeaky chair being in a court room, used throughout multiple proceedings, I imagine it would be fixed right away, for being as loud as it seems.

What I am getting from the replies is that everyone is concerned if this is a spin off of the Good Doctor - the Lawyers obsession with the two squeaks - not the comment under the clip, not that the man is being unreasonable about suing another for saving his life even if it meant he lost part of his arm? My grandmother volunteers in a voting booth. Don’t know what else to call it, but she can’t help anyone unless they verbally ask for help. Reason they can’t is for this exact reason. Someone who is choking could accuse volunteers of touching them inappropriately even though they were trying to help save a life. so the rule stands so no law suits will occur.
I have a CPR/AED/FA license. I’ll never use them on anyone I don’t personally know for reasons exactly like this. I’d rather watch somebody die than have my life crumble apart under lawyers fees and lawsuits. That’s the kind of world people like this(I know it’s a show but this does happen a lot) create. One where knowledgeable people won’t help for fear of being sued.
@@AzureRadio if you are in danger trying to get help from people, but those people are bystanders cuz they've been hurt by those people they helped, what would you do?
This can go into multiple things but the main one this is how you make a world where you crash out a window but no one around wants to touch you your due to die before the paramedics arrive but not a single person wants to help. This is also why there are laws in place for people who do stuff like this Good Samaritan or something like that where if your actions as a civilian where in the attempt to rescue there life you can’t be sued over it now it doesn’t protect you in the case of you doing it wrong but it protects you for cases like accidnely doing cpr too hard and you crack a rib this law is put into place for these exact reasons there a story of a guy who was choking and someone saved his life he would have been dead without the interference he sued them for damaging his ribs in the process. they implemented them to prevent this because there still plenty of places that don’t have it and there many cases of people standing around watching as a person dies because they don’t want to take that chance to be sued or something else.

Good Samaritan laws may not apply to licensed medical professionals. Varies by state.

Probably.
@@matyarsonic4254Sounds like it
It's probably because of the hippocratic oath. They swore an oath to save a life no matter who or what that person has said or done. Friend or foe.
When you use the word Samaritan in the medical field,it means walking away and not helping the person cause your safety is also important as well. The general meaning of Samaritan is not the same in the medical field.
@@ToniGao-o9b Sounds like an interesting discussion to have with my daughter who is a RN. I have the interest and intelligence to be in the medical field but lack the ability to not pass out at someone getting stitches.
Mostly cuz of tv shows & people assuming that OCD “means u like to clean or organize stuff” so it’s cool to see tv shows do it right & bring awareness to what OCD really is
In Australia there’s a law that protects first responders (the first person to act) against being sued for physical harm
It’s called the “Good Samaritan act”
The US has Good Samaritan laws. My understanding is they apply to volunteers, though, not paid responders.
India also has good Samaritan law.

In France there is something like that too, any first respondet act in the name of the Republic so if someone want to sue someone else it has to be the state. Good luck to any suer
Two more squeaks… I haven’t seen the show put I know that the reason she’s saying this is because of some disorder like PANDAS which makes you repeat certain things in pairs like if you touch a door knob and it squeaks once then this lady would have too make the handle do it twice more otherwise she’ll have a mental block/ breakdown rendering her incapable of thinking/doing anything else
The guy must know this about her, and is trying to throw her off her game! I've never heard of PANDAS? Is that similar to OCD?

Happens in real life. I've seen cases where a person saved another person's life with CPR and that person caught a cold and sued his life saver. I've saved a few people in my time and feared being sued. I say stop saving people. Look away because they'll sue you.
If you are in the US there’s a thing called the Good Samaritan law. That means you can’t be sued by the person you tried to save even if you cause damage to them
You should save someone cause its the right thing to do, not because you dont think they will sue you jackass
@@glasswolf2202We got something similar to that in Canada, but its not nearly as protected unfortunately

@@jeepinbanditrider Yeah and make people think twice before helping you or the next person.
I would think every State, Province, territory would have something similar.
by that reasoning, a doctor that refuses to operate would fall into the law.
