Tarja is an incredible artist!! she has a beautiful super varied career. She grew up a lot after Nightwish, I hope you keep reacting to her. I recommend one of his most reacted songs: supremacy or victim of ritual in Woodstock, it reaches very high notes and one of the songs from his latest rock album: shadow play, diva or innocence from the circus life live show (a totally live show ). With Tarja you have: ballads, rock, symphonic metal, arias, electronic music, house music with electric guitars, etc. and this church album with fantastic covers.

Tarja didn"t just fit Nightwish, Nightwish as we know it was tailored to fit her big, dark, unique voice. It is a magical era of the band with magnificent vocals by a young singer beginning both in lyrical and metal singing. Over the years she has shown the many facets of her vocal and artistic talent. The diversity of her repertoire is truly impressive. For instance this year alone she has released this accoustic concert, an EDM cd "Outlanders", while recording a dark Christmas album and touring her Best of her 15-year solo rock music. Tarja is not an "older" lady with a "nice" voice but a truly beautiful inside and out amazing artist - singer, lyricist, composer, arranger, producer - that deserves due consideration and respect

Tarja is almost 46 now (August 17th 1977), Floor is 42 (February 21st 1981). But I think she just looked older here because she was so serious. If you ask me, she doesn't look any older than Floor in the most recent videos I've seen.
"Rocking Heels: Live at Metal Church" is the document of a very special and intimate concert in the idyllic setting of Wacken Metal Church and the first of a six-album spanning live series. In front of just 300 handpicked fans, this onetime-only event opened the Wacken OpenAir Festival in 2016.
She has about 10 albums on her own, and 5 albums with Nightwish. You can react to anything you can find (with or without Nightwish), but please not that new version of her and Marko singing Phantom of the opera. Old one is the best phantom ever, but that new one is pretty horrible. And I would say that I prefer her original stuff over the covers.

Sounds like it's time to listen to some Nightwish songs with Tarja. I recommend "Wishmaster" from the End of an Era DVD. I also love the Official video for Tarja's solo song "Until My Last Breath" . Very Nightwishy.

You definitely should listen more with Tarja😁 from her solo career and Nightwish. End of an Era is a good concert from Nightwish with Tarja as their lead singer and a good song from that concert is Slaying the dreamer.
Tarja's voice combined with the music Tuomas wrote is what made Nightwish what it is today, symphonic metal band. With her they rose to fame. When her way parted with the band, it was a huge thing. Everyone was worried how they can continue without her (and how Tarja can manage without them), but luckily all of them found a way😊. With Anette (their second singer) they kept on going and with Floor they have been evolving and growing bigger and bigger.
But for the last 18 years, Tarja has been developing her own rock solo career.... and she has been very successful with it. You might want to see something from that too?
A good song is Love to Hate, and the performance is live from London. It is during the same year as this performance was, 2016.

This concert took place during the Wacken Open Air 2016, in the village church in Wacken itself. The whole village is now involved in the festival. During the festival, the quiet life of a farming village is over. As one villager put it, "Every year we get excited when the metalheads come - and go."
Tarja aka Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen Cabuli has released six studio and seven live albums since her time with Nightwish (and one live album without Nightwish when she was a member).
The collaboration between her and Tuomas also failed due to artistic differences. Tarja always refused to sing anything other than the classical style. That made Nightwish unique in the beginning, later it became a problem. Tarja wanted the band to conform more to her style or pause when doing something purely classical. Tuomas wanted her to fit in with the band. In the end, the break was inevitable.

Hey there! Tarja and NightWish huge, long-time fan/addict here! lol. I just came across your channel and I'm thoroughly enjoying your NW reactions, eager for more! 🤘☺And you're lovely. You've got a new subscriber right here and lots of thumbs up! Thank you for this reaction btw, Ioved it! I think you're right, I feel this melancholic atmosphere too in this cover of hers compared to the original from Metallica, and I actually love it, I'm a dramatic, malancholic person myself especially when it comes to Music and Arts in general lol Nevertheless, there's yet so many precious gems for you to discover amidst her solo stuff! Her sound is unique and her solo career is brilliant, vast, diverse, a real rabbit hole of epicness, she created a whole new world amidst the Music universe! Since this is your first listen to Tarja then, well... I must say that you have a long and beautiful journey ahead waiting for you to undertake it, if you're willing to (which I hope you are, I promise it's more than worth it)
Don't know if you're aware, but Tarja was co-founder of NW, alongside Tuomas and Emppu, back in 1996, and she sang with them until 2005. Her dramatic, dark, classically trained voice (her rich warm timbre I must add is rare and uncommon even into the classical music world) is the reason they became a metal band in the first place, otherwise they would've stick to Tuomas' original plans of making folk/acoustic mood music, but as soon as they heard Tarja singing they realised they'd need a massive music to support her powerful voice, then came the idea of starting a metal band instead; due to all of this they were the pioneers who traveled through the uncharted lands of symphonic metal practically creating the genre itself. They paved the way and opened the gates to other symphonic metal bands that came after and took inspiration on them and on the idea of Tarja's classical vocals used in a metal band. After NW she's been on the road of her own long, successful solo career, on which I want to focus now.
I hope you're taking suggestions from the comment sections for I have plenty lol. So if that's alright I'd like to drop down here my recommendations, for her solo work is stunning and different from anything you've seen, and deserves more attention. Tarja's Music is another epic, life-changing journey, as much as NW's, so I'd like to encourage you to react to more of her solo work (especially orignal songs) besides continuing your NW reactions (from all eras btw, all lineups with the 3 lead singers they had). I mean, her solo career is full of treasures to find out, and since after her departure from NW back in 2005 she's clearly much happier and finally free to be fully herself, you know, without the "shackles"... and ever growing and maturing vocally and artistically through the years. Her solo musical rock/metal style (apart from her classical music and Xtmas concerts, and other "out of the box" side projects of hers) is very unique and not easily defined, though it still has plenty of the symphonic metal elements as guidelines such as some kinds of guitar riffs, epic orchestral arrangements, dramatic theatrical "ingredients" and her remarkably dark, powerful operatic vocals (though now she mixes a bit her classical singing tecnique with a more "contemporary" style and her strong chest voice in a very singular, non mainstream way). Her solo work is much more versatile, she incorporates and merges aspects of different stylistic elements, and is always experimenting new things in her music without any fear of exploring the unusual, so you never really know what to expect or what she'll do next, AND I find it magnificent, exciting! Plus, I love the fact that she walked her own path and found her "artist self", ways to translate her soul into this world through her Art, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. She's simply a fantastic, hard working, super talented and phenomenal artist who's sometimes a bit underrated by some unfortunately, a remarkably beautiful soul too! Such an amazing artist, so creative, expressive, she plays the piano (since she was 6 actually), became a noteworthy songwriter/composer (yes, most of her songs are written and composed by herself), and a producer, collaborator... And a powerful, captivating performer; I love her stage presence and energy too, she always gives all of herself and owns the stage. She's truly one of a kind! I got to see her live a few years ago and man!, what a mesmerizing voice and enthralling presence! She draws in every person in the audience always, and controls the crowd without having to say a word, almost like a spell, as if she's perpetually connected in an almost spiritual level, we feel that and she does too, and knows how to use it! The videos can capture a glimpse of that power, but seeing her live... Wow, it's an entirely different experience! She's much more energetic on stage now solo than while with NW🤘❤, yet she managed to keep that same majestic aura and otherworldly presence! And at the same time with a distinctly dramatic expression and deep, emotional human renditions! And I don't know how to explain it, but I get this feel from her, in her solo career too and particularly with NW, this sort of vibe of like a dark sorceress warrior, Morrighan-like bewitching powerful entity or something lol
Therefore imo, one cannot hope to truly know Tarja as an artist without diving into her stunning solo work too. She's such an inspiration to me, her voice and renditions give me deep, spiritually magical Eargasms💘A-hem... Sorry about that😜. I just Love her so much! Her heavenly voice and work speak deeply to my soul. Anyway, without further ado, back to the list (I tried to make a selection as short as I could, really difficult to choose from her vast, outstanding repertoire lol, but there's so much more to explore as you go):
    1. th-cam.com/video/6T-Wyw9lYyM/w-d-xo.html . Song "In for a kill". Album "What lies Beneath" (2010). Performance from her 2012 first live-album "Act I". Bombastic! Hear the lion within her roar!🤘
    2. th-cam.com/video/K3QmQN7VSNI/w-d-xo.html . This is also from Act I, a kind of mixed version of two of her ballad songs ("Oasis" and "The archive of lost dreams"). Here she sings while playing a grand piano, showing some dramatic nuances of her expression and voice, sort of "gothic vibes". She delivers such a touching, emotional performance! It brings tears to my eyes! It's sort of a "forgotten" treasure!😍
    3. th-cam.com/video/jxqodwLVdcU/w-d-xo.html . "Love to Hate", this song is part of her 2016 album "The Shadow Self" and the performance recorded in 2018 for her live-album Act II, at London's Metropolis Studio, a more intimate setting, which makes it even more special. Outstanding, breathtaking performance, one of my favorites! Plus, the song has an unusual structure, which is awesome.
    4. th-cam.com/video/tv4XWkTWQ0M/w-d-xo.html . "Undertaker", also live for Act II, and another track from "The Shadow Self". So epic and Incredible! You'll love this one, her energy is amazing and the song is epic!
    5. th-cam.com/video/UGkbQj8e6JI/w-d-xo.html . "Crimson Deep", also from "What lies Beneath" and performance, from Act I too. It gives me chills, I just love it!
    6. th-cam.com/video/TGjkjNXYBWI/w-d-xo.html . "Dead Promises", live at Masters of Rock 2019, and the song is from her 2019 album "In the Raw". Freaking awesome! 🤘Great guitar riffs that function as a driving force to the song. Many songs in this album actually have this same characteristic, I think you'll love it.
    7. th-cam.com/video/CpxA5JTT5Ec/w-d-xo.html . "Shadow Play", also from her "In the Raw". Link to the studio version for the epic choir and orchestra, but there is an outstanding live performance at Circus Life where she plays piano too, worth checking out.💘🤘
    8. th-cam.com/video/Lq-genEQNLA/w-d-xo.html . "Innocence", from "The Shadow Self" and live at 'Circus Life' in Bucharest, in 2022 (quite recent). Fantastic live version, no backtrack recordings or anything like that, everything literally live! Beautiful, it feels so alive to me, as the whole concert!! Worth checking out as well is the official video for context
    9. th-cam.com/video/R_CQNdPbkzM/w-d-xo.html . That's a double 'cause I couldn't find a better live recording lol, so here it is: live at Luna Park Ride in 2011, first song is "Stargazers" by NW (from their album Oceanborn) but performed during her solo career, and following this she sings her own song "Ciarán's Well" (from her first solo rock album "My Winter Storm"). So epic, her operatic vocals and stage presence going wild, so much energy, sure you'll be blown away 🤩
    10. th-cam.com/video/yma4r9Ep_kc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ffYuiRtg2LmxJknc . "The Reign", from her first rock album "My Winter Storm", performance from Act I. The song itself is alredy beautiful and emotional, definitely a hidden gem, and then what she does here..... So very touching😪💘, a unique moment! It shows the deep bond, reciprocal connection, love and trust between Tarja and her fans. I can't tell you more, you have to witness it lol
    To be continued...

Thanks for reaction to this video. Yes, Tarja is now releasing an entire album of covers of her favorite rock songs, including their own. It was a surprising announcement for her fans. If you like classics, you definitely shouldn't miss her era with Nightwish. She recorded a total of 5 albums with them, and many of the songs now sung by Floor were originally sung by Tarja. I recommend watching Tarja's performance of Phantom of the Opera from Nightwish's End of an Era concert. It was her last concert with them. She was the only one in the band who didn't know.
Tarja studied classical singing in Finland and Germany. She is four years older than Floor.
I've loved Tarja's voice for many years, from her time in Nightwish, to now, when she is mainly into rock music, but also releases classical albums, gothic versions of Christmas songs, and this year the first album of chill electronic music, Outlanders. She is very versatile and experimental and constantly surprises fans. I didn't think it was possible, but her voice is on a whole different level now than when she was in NW. She takes classes all the time.

Tarja IS the reason Nightwish is the band you know today. It was HER rich dark classical vocals that inspired Tuomas to help create the genre of symphonic metal. Please make sure as you enjoy your journey into NW you include the Tarja era as well as the Anette era.
Tarja's solo career has so many great songs as well, please continue with that as well

    Hi Nikki.
Tarja's voice (tar•ya), has improved through the years.
I didn't really get into her voice with Nightwish as it was very heavy in opera and equally heavy in the accent.
After this I can honestly say she has improved immensely on both.
You may want to react to the first video I saw of Tarja since Nightwish. It was a collaboration with the band Within Temptation and the song is Paradise.
I absolutely LOVE that song. It's not missing anything!
Starting with Sharon's vocals which are executed absolutely perfectly with the vocal fry and the effect on it, absolute bliss for my ears.
And then there's Tarja, who surprised me with some better pronunciation on this performance than I've previously heard from her and it sounded awesome!!!
    Please react.

That's interesting, as I love her Finnish pronunciation in singing. English is not her native language as it might be the case with you, and Finnish is not even Indo-European language, so totally different voices. She speaks 4 languages.
Btw, her voice has been great since the Angels Fall First, but some people prefer generic and light commercial pop-rock vocals, I understand that.

@@withoutshadowww It also depends on where you're from.
I grew up on 80s rock & metal so I prefer the more straight up English as opposed to the accent.
But some do enjoy the heavy operatic and that's ok. To each his own. Cheers!

I think with Tarja's replacement with Anetete and after that with Foor Night Wish lost his identity as an unique symphonic metal band. Now with Floor Night Wish is one of the many and not the unique one like before. But unfortunately, many only metal-oriented fans can not understand that at all. In one sentence: "Tarja's Night Wish" did something revolutionary and "Floor's Night Wish" did unfortunately something average only.

Btw: I think Tarja sings a few songs even better than Floor.
Nemo, Phantom of the opera (old live heavy Nightwish version in Finland), Bless The Child and Wishmaster.

So that the comparison with Floor works, an original by Tarja. Nemo was the international breakthrough and was sung by all three singers. You already know the floor version.

Taa rrr we as (two ru nen) Finnish for you.
This is on an album released Friday. Recorded in Wacken Metal Church. (GERMANY). The night before the open air festival. Invite only. 70 to 80 lucky people. This was in 2016.
The Album with her concert is called Rocking Heels. Came out two days ago. Her 18th since leaving NW in 2005.
Tarja was not just a former member. She was cofounder with Tuomas ( writer) and Emppu ( guitar).
Now something to know, That Tarja and Floor have been friends since meeting in 2002.
When Floor's previous band was asked to open for NW.
Tarja was asked for and gave her blessings to Floor joining NW.
There was a singer, Anette Olzen between them.
Sick and pregnant had to leave tour early.
Floor was supposed to take over in the spring for the South America tour.
Tarja is a lyrical mezzo soprano. And Tarja will be 46 in September 2023.
Keep in mind Nightwish was founded in 1996.
Classical training. But so much diversity. The album here is acoustic covers of 90s metal songs. Some old NW hits and her solo work.
She finished a US tour in June.
And on tour in Europe for festival season. She even had Marko as her special guest for the 2nd time. 3rd meeting since her leaving NW. That a long ugly story and there are 3 sides. Theirs, hers and the truth. Of which we can only guess. Enough to know it ended badly and both sides admitted they could have handled it better. I will skip over drama and say since 2007 Tarja has done amazingly well and is much loved all over the world. I will give the link to her wiki page.
      25 years a bit much for a y comment. 😅
The short version is she is still married 20 years this year to Marcello and they have a beautiful daughter Naomi, (11) together.
I also advise against comparisons and who is " better" that will only invite trouble. Suffice it to say the equipment 25 years ago and recording techniques not up to today's standards. Also there was no roadmap. No trail of other earlier bands to point to,and say this is how you do symphonic metal.
She was a pioneer along with a few contemporaries. Also female fronted metal? Not much out there then.
That Tarja is kind, supportive, humble and looked on as a role model by many of today's top performers is credit to her.
The performance here includes her piano player ( though she was taught to play by Tuomas ' mother, and can and does play herself elsewhere), her cellist, and a guest violinist.
She put out her 1st compilation last year Best of: Living the dream. Celebrating 15 years solo. In case you need to know how she feels about her career so far.
She calls her fans her Winter Storm. And we are loyal, loving and supportive of her work.
She has an autobiography as well called Singing in my blood. Well her brother and her daughter are testament to that as well. 😂
There is a rich trove of material. Some older material has been upscaled as well.
Tarja Turunen HD, e.a r. Music her label have pages where you can find official videos.
It is a wonderful journey and with all she has done and in so many genres it's a deep mine full of treasures to find things that you will enjoy.

    Hi Nikki, greetings from UK
I hadn't heard the original song before so maybe I should go listen to it now so that I can get a comparrison?
I also haven't followed Tarja since she left Nightwish so I wasn't sure how she would sound. The only song I have heard with her singing in recent years was "What About Us" where she sang with 'Within Temptation' which I adored
This I liked. It was interesting to see it performed in a small church and I wonder if this was a concert or a one-off for just this song?

It was a concert in "Wacken Metal Curch" at Wacken Open Air 2016, where she played cover songs and a few of her own songs in a classical way. One day later she performed her rock concert at Wacken Open Air 2016 on the black stage (with Alissa White-Gluz as special guest).

Without parting ways with Nightwish, she may have never had the stellar solo career she did. But then, she planned on leaving them at some point, since she considered herself a temporary singer anyway.
