People need to understand that having body odor doesn't mean your dirty or you don't wash clean, but it can also mean if your stressed, having anxiety or depression sometimes hormones. Don't make fun of people who stink just because you think you aren't.

Wrong. Nothing to do with emotions but hygiene not getting it right. Odour came from clog dirt & bacteria. Use Softener Solutions and White cotton wipe and change new till no stain & no more smell (around 4 to 5 cotton wipes. Daily 2 times (morning and night) for 7 days. Each time finishing regime, mop dry use tissue. Body odour should be heal when skin not clog with dirt and bacteria absent. This the only best solution even doctors don't know this method.

I’m half Asian and have never had body odor (ABC11 mutation also gives me dry earwax). But I knew a guy who immediately emitted a terrible body odor even when he just stepped out of the shower. No deodorant in the world was enough to stop this smell. He was the cleanest person I knew! And it wasn’t just coming from his armpits, it was his whole body. I always wondered if some endocrine disorder might have caused this? Looking forward to your video on excessive sweating - I dated someone who had that issue.

Something that wasn't addressed in this segment but may be in a future episode is nonenal body odor. (hormonal imbalance or aging body odor) Mirai Clinical uses persimmon tannin and it works well. Their body wash has no fragrance and is quite effective as a nonenal preventive. I like Vanicream's antiperspirant stick. 48 hours, no odor! Hibiclens was mentioned and to get a thoroughly cleansed skin surface, I use it on a Buf-Puf (gentle) to clean my armpits. Results: Smooth as silk. Ready for a fresh application of Vanicream antiperspirant. I think Hibiclens adds to the effectiveness of knocking down those stank inducing bacteria. Just my 2 cents. Great video, doctors! Thank you!

Hibi is good for me when I shower in the morning and use a "natural" Native deodorant instead of letting the Almay antiperspirant sink in after a night wash. However, I found that I have to juggle antiperspirant, natural deodorant and glycolic acid to stay more or less smell free.

I'm a very stinky person, or at least my armpits are super stinky. Here's my routine:
    1) In the shower, I wet my armpits and apply benzoyl peroxide cleanser. I let that sit while I wash my hair.
    2) Rinse and wash again with body wash/soap.
    3) After my shower, Lume. I use Lume twice a day. It's an alpha hydroxy product. Mandelic acid is gentler than glycolic acid and probably more appropriate for sensitive areas like underarms.
    4) I have to wear scrubs at work, and almost everything on the market with stretch is fully synthetic fiber. That stuff traps odor, and detergent isn't gonna get all that bacteria out. After wearing any shirt or bra, but ESPECIALLY scrub tops, I spray down the armpits of the shirt with Oxiclean spray (I think you can use hydrogen peroxide too) and leave it till laundry day. I put my scrubs in the wash on a soak cycle with Oxiclean powder and leave it about 12 hours before washing. Jackets get the full treatment once a week; I don't trust spray-on treatments to get all the way through the layers.
Sometimes I still get a bit stinky, usually at work towards the end of my shift. But it's gotten so so much better. I used to start smelling as soon as I put on a fresh outfit and the residual bacteria in the clothing started doing its thing. Lume was the first step towards solving the issue. It helps because it comes out of my clothes better. There's no waxy ingredients that can resist oxygen cleaners and detergent. It also washes off my skin and body hair easily. I used to scrub my armpits two or three times with soap and a mitt and I'd still smell faintly of deodorant and BO. I started using Oxi spray on my clothes at the same time because Lume recommended using an oxygen or enzyme treatment. Then came benzoyl peroxide, and finally the 12hr soak for my scrubs.
Also: the other benefit from Lume is that I've stopped getting HS outbreaks in my underarms. It was a mild case to begin with, but I'm still impressed. I think the exfoliation and its ability to wash clean both help keep my sweat glands clean and open. I haven't had an abscess since I started using Lume three years ago. I also think that eliminating antiperspirant ingredients helped. Blocking sweat glands probably isn't right for my body.
Hope this helps my fellow stinky people!

I've been wearing clinical strength antiperspirant for around 20 years now. I shower daily and have tried so many cleansers over the years to no avail. I decided to check TH-cam to see if there was something I could do about the stench at the source and came across this video. Ran to the store first thing in the morning when it opened and purchased a bottle of HibiCleans, tried it out as soon as I finished my workout. ( I was quite smelly) I could not believe how clean I felt afterward. I've been using it daily for two or three days now and I don't smell anything at all! I keep smelling my pits just to make sure. I don't know why I never thought to wash with antiseptic, antimicrobial, antibacterial cleansers before. 😍

I have suffered from excessive sweating and odor since puberty (I also have super waxy ears). I eat clean, work out, shower regularly and nothing seems to work. I’ve tried everything: benzoyl peroxide, hibiclens, glycolic acid, prescription strength deodorants, all of it. I tried Lume and it changed my scent for the worse. It’s been a lifelong struggle and seems to get worse as I get older. Sucks big time.

Hey, profuse sweater over here! Unfortunately, not just from my pits. I use the crystal ice deodorant at night (after a shower) and then layer a natural deodorant in the morning. Depending on my deodorant I might reapply midday. But if I'm not going to be very active I don't have to. I tried lume and I just didn't like how the smell mixed with my pH. Wasn't body odor but a different scent I didn't enjoy. I will say tweezing (or waxing) makes deodorants work better for me. And there is a detox period when initially going natural. Most people say 2 weeks. Mine was between 4-6 because I was using really strong antiperspirants. I also feel like I sweat less know than when I was using prescription strength stuff. I hope some of this info helps.

Tell him to take showers everyday or even twice a day one morning one after school or night and not shampooing everyday but 2 to 3 days and though it’s less on the natural side I recommend deodorants like old spice and dove and good natural deodorants for less sweaty days are dr s and native but they don’t help as much I’m a 13 yrs old boy and I usually shower once a day at night or after school and I use old spice on those days but I usually use dove and native. Also shampoo products I recommend that smell good and that I have is shea moisture, ojx and I usually shampoo every 2 to 3 days and I double wash so I use two shampoos and I don’t use conditioner I also every 3 or 4 weeks I use a detox shampoo like olaplex and ouai. Body washes I recommend is old spice again for sweaty days, shea moisture, native, Hawthorne, methodmen, and I have a exfoliating soap bar and a wash soap bar from shea moisture. To wash my body I use silicone scrubber and also a hard brush that exfoliates everything and you see all the dirty and dead skin and gunk coming off. Since I’m going through puberty still I don’t have body hair in all areas yet but every area I shave since that’s the main cause for body Oder is body hair. I myself kind am kind of a perfectionist with routine especially with taking care of myself and I always have been I have a whole oral routine and face washing and I moisturize and that makes me smell even better I actually use shea moisture manuka honey, fig extract, yogurt moisturizer and I mix it with a normal coconut moisturizer and I make sure my nails are clipped everywhere so there’s no dirt or anything I also recommend you get your son nice colognes like azzaro wanted or the most wanted, bleu de channel, Jean Paul gaultier le bleau, john varvatos xx, 1 million, yvessaintlaurent edp, Valentino born in Roma coral fantasy, davidoff cool water, polo red, Prada Luna Rosa, Lacoste etc

The problem i have with it, is that it does cause some irritation and armpits skin looks darker. Because of that I prefer Mitchum, it'll hold for solid 24h. Just apply overnight on dry clean skin. No need to reapply in the morning.

I switched to the deodorant that makes the skin inhospitable to bacteria and stuck with it for this reason: it doesn't stain my clothes. I hate pit stains and a lot of anti-perspirants and deodorants just lead to weird stains on my clothes. While it's hard to tell, I do think that I sweat less now that I am no longer using a sweat-occlusion product and just letting my pits do what they will. Now, I will acknowledge that the staying power of the glycolic acid is not quite the same as an actual anti-perspirant so there are some life situations where I will use the Vanicream (thanks for the rec!!!) but for my normal every day life, my Neccessaire or my Crystal deodorant work great, I like the smell of them, they seem to work for my lifestyle (your mileage may vary if you are not working in a temp-controlled office!!!), and they don't stain my clothes! Works for me! I'm glad to have non-aluminum options, personally!

Very informative. I’ll definitely be sharing this. Thank you. But showering should be key, some people don’t like to shower/bath. Some people also smell because of how they store their clothes by placing them in damp areas, so the clothes have a choking smell. So washing one’s clothes regularly and storing in airy and not too damp areas work too.

benzoyl peroxide works really well (I even use 10% without any irritation) and I personally use Lavilin as a deodorant. It's aluminum free but it works. Don't know if it's available in the US, but I've been using a deodorant called Driclor for years. There's another one called Perspirex which is the exact same thing. You use it once a month, put it on at night, let it dry, and wash it off in the morning. Day to day I then use a normal deodorant. I used to sweat BADLY. So much so, I had Botox done under my arms twice. These products stopped me sweating entirely. Yes they contain Aluminium. I don't care if they cause issues. My sweating was so bad, it was effecting my mental health. Anyone who suffers with sweating BADLY, look into these two. They genuinely work.

Great video. I was the practice manager of an Atlanta area Dermatology practice. I would encourage anyone with hyperhidrosis issues to look into having Miradry done. It greater 80-90% reduces excessive sweating and underarm oder. There is another device called Morpheus for the same procedure. You are sore for about 1 week, but your sweating is greatly reduced if not eliminated. The one thing that happens is that after 2 months you will notice underarm smell even if you never had that problem. But this goes away in 1 month. It is an adrenal issue. I had it and can validate its effectiveness.

I can’t believe you two didn’t mention MiraDry. Yes, it does work for odor. There is a subset of us where nothing topical works all that well. I really think the issue needs to be broken down further, i.e., what type of smell is it? Body chemistry is different for everyone, and that probably matters regarding the topicals. Alkaline or acidic, for example. There must be a gene or enzyme breakdown defect that produces these odor problems. If they only had an algorithm to identify it.

For odor in the armpits, it is best to trim the hair with a trimmer or remove it with wax, and then use any cream that contains an antibiotic, such as fusidic acid cream. After that, you can use deodorant or antiperspirant. Another piece of advice is to avoid eating a lot of garlic, onions, and some vegetables that may be eliminated from the body through sweating.
