  • In this video I show y'all how to use a BowMedic Cable press. This video kicks off a short series in which I show the ins and outs of setting up your bow to be able to shoot. I hardly know it all when it comes to archery, but I have learned a few things along the way and my goal is to try and show and describe things in different ways that you may be able to pick up on and it helps you. I have been back-and-forth wanting to get a price, but I cannot justify the cost for something to use maybe every so many months if that, I've looked at other options and seems to be the happy middle ground, seems like I would be able to do everything needed And it's compacting portable if I want to take it out to the field, and if the time comes I ever do decide to get a press I we still have this as portable tool

    I found the limb brackets in your link, but not sure if their sold as a pair or you have to buy two of them.

    Are you using a gun holder for the bow and how do you keep it from sliding around? Do you need to remove your sight? BTW Great information

    • @j2carchery
      @j2carchery  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes it is a gun holder. I removed the middle poles so I could make the spread wider apart. When I put the bow in the holder I strap it down with Velcro straps I attached to the holder arms. Doesn’t budge! For the sight, I don’t need to remove my sight, however I have worked on bows that I do. So if you have a longer sight I would suggest maybe just bolting the gun arms on blocks to raise it higher off your working surface. That has worked for me in the past. Thanks for your question!

    Any tips for using this tool if you're completely taking a bow apart for shipping?

    • @j2carchery
      @j2carchery  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think using this would be difficult to do what you are wanting. If you are going to try I’d just make sure you start with enough slack in the line so that when you let it out you have enough room on the cable for the bow to be completely open.

    I have a LCA EZ Green but it doesn't work well with my PSE Evo XF and Fortis because they are both well behind parallel limbs. The bow will shoot out of the bottom unless you buy a kit from LCA for past parallel limbs, which is bs, when you buy their presses they should give you the option for fingers that work on beyond parallel. Anyway, I'm looking at this press you've reviewed, it's a way cheaper option than try LCA kit. Does it press enough to allow for cable removal as well. Do you recommend it. Thanks

    • @j2carchery
      @j2carchery  ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds crazy! But yes you can achieve the same press as an EZ with the extra limbs I talk about. And yeah you can do whatever you need to like remove the cables. Changed strings multiple times with these. I would just suggest you have a good place to secure your bow horizontally so it’s easier to work on.

      @@j2carchery got one more question, the pin that sits on the inside of the limb, my concern is the pressure it could put on the limbs. As long as your careful and paying attention it won't damage the limbs?

    • @j2carchery
      @j2carchery  ปีที่แล้ว

      Now anything can happen….but that is how the arm is intended to be used so I wouldn’t worry about it. The pin comes with a covering that protects the limb from scratches and pads it against the limb. As long as the pin is engaged correctly I don’t see why you would have an issue!

    I own a Old Mathew’s z7 and it has those dampener brackset mounted to limbs on each end.These would get in the way of the hooks.Could these be removed if I want to use the hooks and not buy the brackets?I think the dampener brackets help add strength to where cam axles go thru.thanks..

    • @j2carchery
      @j2carchery  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To the best of my knowledge I do not believe you can remove those brackets if I understand you question correctly. My suggestion would be to buy the ultimate limb brackets. You get a better press mechanic out of the bow and it is much safer

      @wish2fish37 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the quick response..There are just two Allen head bolts holding them but I think they are there for support and I could see a potential for damage if removed before trying the press without the limb brackets.thanks@@j2carchery

      @@wish2fish37I think you hit the nail on the head. I would be very leary to remove them, if at all because of the design of the limbs.

    Is that a homemade rack your bow is sitting in?

    • @j2carchery
      @j2carchery  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes! It’s a tool cart and on top I put a piece of plywood, covered it in carpet, and then bolted down some old gun vise arms with adjustable slots so I can move them to different positions for different size risers. Works pretty well for an at home shop.

    My only bowshop is quite far, and I'm through with the attitude there. (Which is why I'm here) This is a great option. I only need to press a few times every year. Doesn't break the bank. Doesn't take up space. I'll probably go with one. Thanks very much. J in VA

      I appreciate you!
      I will add it to my list to test this out to see if you can do a complete disassemble with this style of press. Not sure if the cable is long enough to have the limbs be pressed back into the correct place. I would probably recommend using a traditional press like an EZ Green or something if you needed a complete disassemble. This is more for quick fixes or string changes in the field if something happens on a hunt for instance. But I’ll look into it.

    Bow medic is a joke. I purchased the bow medic with brackets by bow medic and they dont fit to short. When you try using it the fingers they slip off and now your bow is destroyed wasted money on this. Thank god i checked before doing it or i would have been stuck with destroyed bow due to product failer costing you 1000 plus$ . I would not use this product.

      I used one this weekend at the ASA Pro Am on the range on a PSE Omen with the smaller limb adapters and this thing NEVER even thought about budging. Heck I have seen some bows slip out of an LC press because of past parallel limb. For an emergency fix for a partial derailed bow it worked like a charm.
