  • The ASICS Japan S is a retro of a 1981 basketball model thats doesn't seem to get any shine when talking about retro basketball product. After getting these in hand I am a HUGE fan. What do you all think about this model?

Everyone should know Asics. Nike actually started out as an importer/agent for Asics in the US after Nike founder Phil Knight traveled to Japan and checked out their operation. Asics was the inspiration and influence for Nike. The founder of Asics.... Kihachiro Onitsuka is widely considered the original sneaker head.

You can say it... Nike ripped ONITSUKA TIGER (Asics) 😁 It's like if Elon Musk started by selling Hondas in the US. Then completely ripped Hondas operations and style. When it's worded like that, it makes you realize how much Nike rippes off.

Nah don't worry mate, Nikes overrated as f*, dem shoes are crazy uncomfortable and hell overpriced for such mediocre materials and the same lame silhouettes year over year, I personally think underrated brands like Asics have some of the most creative and unique silhouettes along with even better materials and quality than fortune companies like Nike, at incredibly affordable prices
Might as well cop some Asics Japans S, they look reslly unique and comfortable 👍

I actually have been wearing Asics shoes for a few years now, though I only wore their running shoes. I found this randomly, and didn't know that it existed. Now, I have a pair, and I must say that they're very comfortable. This, the EX89, and the Gel-Lyte III are some pretty underrated sneakers.

haha, this is funny (and one year later): I was looking for a sneaker in a retro look (Autry, Reebok etc), when I discovered the Japan s in the city today. I had NEVER heard of them before and because I fell in live instantly, I decided to order the right size online right away, as they where out in the store. What a perfect shoe I thought and again wondered, why I had never heard or read anything about them. So after ordering them I googled - it's nice to know about the history of a shoe too. First thing that popped up was your video. : ) Asics have some kind of very tricky niche thing going on, I think😂

Bruh, I had the same reaction as in what even is this company. I was searching for a mostly white sneaker, and I want to step away from nike because they have seriously gone downhill. These were cheap and also clean looking (I ordered Japan S White/Gold). I still need to receive them once they ship to the asics store but if Im satisfied, Im gonna order their high-top version Japan L if there are more colorways.

The reason why the asics look alot like nikes is because Asics used to work with nike until nike started making their own shoes
Also the gold writing in the back says tokyo because the shoes are based on cities, they have england, london; Australia, sydney; america, los angeles; etc. etc.

Not exactly worked with Nike. Nike started as an agent for importing Asics (Onitsuka Tiger at the time) to the US. Phil Knight (the founder of Nike) went to Japan and checked out their operation. He pretty much got the whole idea for starting Nike from Asics. Or to put it less charitibly he basically copied the idea from Asics.
