I guess that makes the HF route even sadder for her. The fate route has her ideals fully explored and she is able to see past her obsession, on UBW we she sees this by looking at archer's past and how they're alike. But in HF, nothing was learned, her relationship with Shirou wasn't that effective because it had little time, and after she darkened and defeated by Shirou and Medusa, she'll just return to that hill with another heavy regret on her shoulders. At least that's what I think.

Note character understanding in universe are often wrong. They think the magic works one way but it works differently.
As Arthura (welsh like Arthur not the Latin fans use for her) has massive current belief in her she almost certainly will be retained as a servant even if she dies as this power of belief actually keeping fictional characters in existence.
And frequently you hear memories not retained but then they are recalled meaning it more a memory block than deleting. After all everything is recorded at the root.
So Arthura type of Servant will change but she will not go away. Only if humanity stops believing could she pass. ( and then you go into the cycle of rebirth or heaven/hell. Fate sticks to reincarnation most of time but for other situations allows passing to other planes no one totally destroyed by death.

@@milferdjones2573 True, human belief is a heroic spirit main source of power (for most, anyway). But the thing about her in this instance is that she didn't technically died yet. Alaya made a deal with her right before her death to serve as a 'servant' in exchange for the Holy Grail, her legend is famous, but for her to become a true servant would require for her death.

Normal Saber you are completely right, Saber Alter, Lancer, and Lancer Alter though could theoretically be summoned regardless of the sate of the loop, as they rely heavily on the beliefs and stories more then Normal Saber does, as the Alters are based on the version of her told by her enemies which depict her more as a tyrant and thus why the mud doesn't change more about her in HF, and while tied heavily to the formation of the Camelot Singularity there are versions of Arthur's tale where Excalibur is entrusted to one of the knights of the round to safe guard until the true heir can claim it, leading into the creation of a second King Arthur threw the sword in the stone being Excalibur instead of Caliburn

It's always wild to me how the Throne of Hero's works for the spirits inside it. Artoria and Emiya are basically stuck in mass graveyards that are monuments to their own failings and those around them while they wait for someone to call them for a new war or just work from Alaya in Emiya's case. All the while they have maybe seconds or minutes to mull over their new memories before being shuffled out where they have to push all this accumulated baggage/trauma to the side again.
I also wonder if Alaya can influence certain outcomes to push specific people into making a contract with it so it can get new tools/Counter Guardians to utilize.

I'm really happy you made this video because I've been saying the same thing. Furthermore, I would add that the reason Artoria's ideals of kingship are childish, can be attributed to Merlin. Because, during her childhood Merlin taught Artoria basic magecraft and politics in her dreams, where he would have had a perfect opportunity to speak with Artoria about her ideals of what a King is. Furthermore, aside from Merlin, it makes sense her ideals of Kingship are stunted, because when she pulled Caliburn from the stone, it was said she became something inhuman and stopped aging. As a result, one could argue that her ideals, like her physical development, stopped, and it wasn't until Stay/Night that she eventually began to mature.

I think a few things attributed to and exacerbated what went down with Camelot. She definitely isn't to blamed for all of it, nor should she be hung on a cross, but I think her personality made the prophecy a self-fulfilling one. Just like Shirou, being an easily used martyr meant that she easily fell into problems that could have been solved. And her legend does tell of a few things she could get heat for, like the May Day massacre, which was a plot to end the problem of the cursed child that would end the kingdom, but those details are vague on whether she sent the children borne in May to die or be sent away. The second was in Hollow, where she mentions knowing that Guinevere loved her and kinda keeping the farce of a marriage they had going, knowing she was kinda duping a friend. So when Lancelot and Guinevere have the tryst, she privately doesn't mind as she knows she cannot give Guinevere the love she wanted. So that one is shared fault, because she ends up going along with the execution of the Queen when their affair is found out, so that's on her, but Lancelot also butchering his fellow knights in retaliation was both sad but also dumb. Plus, the whole utopia of Camelot was kinda pursed on the members not acknowledging the ugliness that lied within and doing something about it. They go over that in FGO plenty of times as well. So no, she definitely shouldn't have become like Iskandar and Gil, as they have their own crosses to bear, but being a martyr wasn't the way to go either, no matter how much the people say they wished for one, a ruler should live as a person, not a machine.

No, I agree with you about the King's banquet. It's clear the writers for F/Z didn't understand Artoria all that well. And both Gilgamesh and Alexander conveniently forgot about their own myriad shortcomings of their own rule (Gilgamesh was hated by the gods and Alexander's empire dissolved the moment he died) while criticizing Artoria, and Artoria for whatever reason just sat there and took the abuse instead of arguing back. Definitely not in her character at all. Especially when her personal convictions are the strongest out of arguably any Servant.
The truth is, Artoria was greatly loved and respected by those that followed her, that much is obvious by ANY of the Knights of the Round Table's dialogue. But she held herself and others to an inhumanly perfect standard, and that's what eventually broke her followers that couldn't live up to such a lofty and unobtainable ideal. That's what makes the Camelot Singularity so tragic. She's finally achieved that ideal, but at the same time thrown away the last dregs of her humanity for the sake of an inhuman perfection that comes with far too great a cost.

That's how the whole conversation started with saber saying her wish to rider and gil and also her basically calling rider wish dumb. Imo on her rule even if I put myself in her situation there are situations she could had handled better. Not saying the knights of round carry no blame some of the knights of the round carry the same amount of blame as saber did. For example tristan can you actually blame him not accepting lancelot help because this the same lancelot who took the kings wife and who injured him and killed his two brothers and lancelot being a big reason for mordred to spread the news to Britain about what's happening and cause an outrage no i can't blame him. That was an completely human emotion that tristan had not trusting lancelot and not accepting his help now sure if lancelot was there king Arthur wouldn't had died thats the only regret tristan has. To saber there where situations was out her control but there where situations she could had handled lancelot situation alot better. The same as when mordred told her she/him was her/his child which she just walked away. The kings conversation was not about her being a bad king because being a good or bad king is personal opinion but it was about her having regrets about her past her history.

The Saber and Archer section is honestly one of the big reasons why I personally prefer them as a couple (years later in FGO) over Fate Shirou and Saber bc Archer can relate and understand all of what Saber has gone through on a level Fate Shirou simply cannot. There’s also the fact that Saber was the only person Archer still remembered after initially being summoned to Fuyuki, thinking fondly of her

Damn, that's a freaking a great showcase of the character's virtue in 8 mins. As a loyal Saber stan, I'm happy hearing you setting the record straight. I feel similar to you to the banquet, though I do feel there's some truth to Saber being detached from her people as it's pointed out in VN that she had to somewhat become inhuman to be able do the right things leading to her not being able to relate completely to common folks. Though, the banquet does paint a far too weak image of Saber with all she had to live through. I feel at minimum she should be able to respond to Gil and Iskandar something interesting instead of simply experiencing despair.

So is the happy artoria after stay night happy ending real the one waiting for Shirou in Avalon and also where exactly is Avalon and also how many years after were the reunited because I have feelings it's after the world has been destroyed or something otherwise how the heck does Emiya break his contract of being a servant

    • @psychophate
      @psychophate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

The one that's in Avalon is the Fate Artoria as Last Episode says she's been waiting for Shirou.
Avalon is in the Reverse Side of the World. It's basically a pocket dimension within the Reverse Side which is another plane of existence itself apart from the normal physical world.
Shirou meets her after a decade or two at most since the life as a hero of justice is a relatively short one. He dies and Merlin helps him enter Avalon. Meanwhile Artoria is sent back to her time and has to wait in Avalon for around 1500 years.
Counter Guardian/ Heroic Spirit EMIYA isn't the same person as Fate route Shirou. EMIYA is essentially a failed Fate Shirou who never got Artoria to accept herself and allow herself to feel (or confess to him), so he never had any other motivation in his life besides his ideal. Fate Shirou did save Saber and he kept pursuing her alongside being a hero of justice so he never accepted a deal with the counter force.
TL;DR: Archer is forever stuck as a counter guardian while Fate Shirou is happily spending his afterlife with Saber in Avalon.

I just think it's suspicious that Artoria even had such a weapon in the first place. I mean think about Excalibur and Rhongomyniad, and exactly how powerful these weapons were, and the seals on them. Artoria in her Lifetime with the exception of the Camelot Lostbelt, never had any reason to use even a fraction of their true power of Excalibur, and never needed to interfere with the " World pillars".
It could've been any powerful sword but she was chosen as wielder for Divine Constructs that would never see their true use in Camelot.
It makes Artoria's whole story and the fall of Camelot seem like a tragic sacrifice to get Artoria become a Counter guardian showing up in the 4th and 5th Fuyuki Grail war with the Exact weapon needed to destroy the Corrupted Grail, as well as Avalon ending up with Shirou that eventually form the foundation for his magecraft and he too Also would get contracted by the Planet after having possession of a Divine Construct and and having regrets upon his death.

  • @jdoggivjc
    @jdoggivjc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I honestly think this is the real crime of the 2006 F/SN anime adaptation being so bad. This anime spent so much time trying to “square peg-round hole” key content from UBW and HF into the Fate route that it completely missed the boat on what the Fate route was really about - namely, the things that were mentioned about Artoria in this video. And because people don’t have the context of Artoria’s motivations from a properly adapted Fate route, it leads people into thinking she’s an “unlikeable” character. Because I do have context of the Fate route (I watched someone “let’s play” the VN), I have a lot more respect for her thought processes, even if I still think she’s wrong, and watching her slowly change her mindset through the route, to the point when Kotomine offers her the Grail and all she has to do is betray Shiro, she outright rejects Kotomine because everything has finally clicked into place in her mind.
Really one of the biggest reasons why ufotable readapting the Fate route is one of the highest spots on my anime wish list.

Those who understand her, just hate that scene me included, I know the scene wanted to convey, "You should accept the past" but it went ina comical fanfiction character bashing mode, that I hate it. Those who think that scene is "Genius" or "Good" is the reason I can't take F/Z seriously.
I always interpreted Tristan infamous speech "The king does not understand the hearts of men" as someone who can't see how much Artoria hides her emotions, her sorrow to them. Her hurt. The whole Irony of "inhuman" is that Artoria never could give away her humanity, internally she cared too much.
I like Mordred, but she so f*cked with the "I'm your son, can I have the throne?" What did she expect? Sure Artoria could have explained it better, but she did not shun her.

Example, Sulaiman of the ottoman empire literally killed his own son to stop any future usurpation for his heir. And another example for the byzantines, they literally faced revolt after revolt while holding out against the Bulgars and the Muslim. More specifically when Leo III became the emperor, the Muslims were literally besieging the capital with their biggest army ever seen since then, while the armies of Anatolia couldn't do much.

Nah that Mordred one is unforgivable. Had she simply acknowledged Mordred and groomed her for the role of king, alot of shit could have been avoided

Except I don’t know bout you but she never saw mordred as her kid nor did she have any reason to.
Morgan was her mother and no matter wat Morgan would find a way to fuck everything up.
Also I don’t know why people expect her to basically accept someone who she’s only saw as nothing more as a good knight and flip the script and act like a full blown parent when artoria doesn’t really know what that means.
Her not accepting mordred makes way more sense and regardless of wat would’ve happened things would’ve still flopped

@@amari7782 the biggest flaw in your argument is that Mordred didn't want her as a parent. She just wanted her to acknowledge her as kid and as a result the next Ruler. Artoria basically told her to fuck off, mordred was happy to continue as a knight. No matter what Morgan did if Artoria had simply handled the situation better Mordred would have stood by her, she literally refused to follow Morgan's plan for most her life.
