Great video! Do a full mine tour video! Id love to see the opening to #5 mine again....I just wish it were not caved in, but it is my understanding that it is. Must have been quite a sight to see all the mines in operation and the train crews switching them.
Tim, I'm going to publish a video on the walking tour, but I don't think it will be a full mine tour. When Ron, Ric, and I get back there with a captive audience, the scheduled 1.5 hours just doesn't cover it. I plan to show highlights ... my nefarious plan is to plant the seeds of wanderlust in folks to get them to make the pilgrimage themselves. Devilish? Oh, to be sure ... but some things just can't be left to social media alone.
Tim, I DID a mine tour video ... published in Jan. 2023. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/EBp56LmrNfw/w-d-xo.html But I'm working on another version with file footage from 2022 and new stuff from this October.
Mercer isn't too much farther away than our home base at a campground between Kittanning and Indiana, PA. Probably would take you 3 hours one way ... worth the trip, I believe, if you don't have mobility issues when you get there.
At around 07:50, the guy driving the speeder talks about a "coal cleaning plant" being right up in here as he points toward the west and a large stone wall. I have never heard of or seen pictures of such a structure, can you enlighten us all?
That’s my voice & and hand. There are articles in the FEBT Timber Transfer about it. It was part of the tipples and a coal preparation plant for mines 2, 3 & (later) 5. Last year we published a video of our ride on a pedal car, and I pointed out that wall and other things nearby with arrows and titles. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/iGtC4WP_xDE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aU0yODDnZaQLEMUO The wall appears at around 2:25 in that video. The next installment on our time at Robertsdale will cover the walking tour of the mines, so stay tuned ... BTW, I'm one of the three FEBT'ers who started the walking tours many years ago before the recent miraculous goings on there. That said, my intent for this TH-cam channel is not necessarily to be "all EBT, all the time," but rather to create interest in places LIKE the EBT so people will want to dig deeper into other resources about it ... which I seem to be succeeding at - or is it "at which I seem to be succeeding?" LOL.
@@historysablast Okay Thank You for the generous reply. I had never heard about any coal processing plant in Robertsdale before, just the cleaning plant in Mount Union. I am not sure if the "processing & cleaning" are synonymous with each other. I have never seen any pictures of such and the only "mega" structures in town back then besides the Company store and high school were Triple#1 loading dock, the 2-stall engine house and the main loader at Woodvale which served #9? Can you tell me which issue# of Timber Times contains the article about it? I am dying to learn about it now. I will watch the other video, Thx 4 the link.
@Sugarmountaincondo I’ll try to look thru back issues if the TT. I probably ought to include that info in the description of the mine tour video. We’ll see.
@@Sugarmountaincondo Finding the right article was easier than I thought ... check out "Searching for the Lost Robetsdale Coal Mines and Coal Cleaning Plant," by Ron Pearson, your's truly, and Ric Case, starting on page 4 in FEBT's _Timber Transfer_ issue for Spring 2023 (Vol. 35, No.1). Available for a modest sum from the FEBT Company Store, URL: store.febt.org and click the link for Timber Transfer.
I haven’t made it downtown Robertsdale in 5 years. I’m amazed by the amount of clearing that has taken place on the right of way.
It’s a marvel, to be sure!
Thanks for posting this video about Robertsdale! The FEBT track crew plans to open even more track soon...
Yay!!!

I had to look at this area on a map . It is way south east of me . Still nice to see a video of someplace in Pa .I am in the Mercer area .
