we are in 2019 and this is the last time Ma Long lost a match in a WTTC (team and singles).

@@dickn.ormous1064 Right cuz in this tournament he had to face off against stronger chinese teammates Wang Hao, Xu Xin, Zhang JIke all in their primes or at least close to their prime condition. Not to forget players like Samsonov, Kenta, Joo, Boll that where still strong at the time and still took effort to defeat. Later on it was really only FZD that was threating and LJK would do better than most and that was about it

Yeah and ma long always meet wang hao in the semi final in the WTTC so that´s why ma long can never win :(
Around 2004-2007 the cycle was Wang Liqin hated Wang Hao, Wang Hao hated Ma Lin and Ma Lin hated Wang Liqin

HA that's a funny statement Xu Xin and Ma Lin are both better than Wang Hao and they're just penholders, Joo Saehyuk is another of my favorite players and there are many others who have matched ma Long in matches it's just that mas consistency is on another level
@@bryanwells4063 Idk man Xu Xin is certainly not better and idk if you can say Ma Lin is better either. Wang Hao is the only man who beat Ma Long in wttc THREE times. Joo only beat him in his first wttc in 2007. There are many who has had good games against ML over the years but Wang Hao seems to be the only one he has consistent trouble with

I think Wang Hao said "怎么受/手伤啦?" Which kinda translates to either "did you get an injury?" or "did you get an injury on your hand?".... I think one of those that's my guess

Wang Hao rips here, RVP best ever grip, it saved me from a mediocre backhand, and Iv'e tried many grips, from the 'traditional' penhold to the popular shakehands, and even the awful 'Danny Seemiller grip'. Thank you Wang Hao, you gave me the backhand of my dreams (for my level) Robert at 66.
Ma long improved a lot years later. Like he’s been to the most difficult match against FZD in wttc 2017.. like bruh. And he continues to dominate to this day

Wang Hao was one of the greatest rivals to Ma Long. Now he is his coach.
Wang Hao controlled Ma Long with his serves. When WH serves, he almost always gets a weak return. This is followed by a strong attack or a BH to BH exchange where WH has the upper hand. This made ML very eager to use his FH by stepping around to his BH. WH anticipated this and answers accordingly (even wider to BH or to FH).

Never seen Ma Long get owned, or loose in general for that matter...Wang was in a zone! :)
Mike D Wang Hao always owned him before he retired. It seemed like it was a sort of mental block for Ma Long and in every big tournament he would lose to Wang Hao. It used to be Wang Hao never being able to beat Ma Lin and now its the other way around with nobody being able to beat Ma Long. Almost like a never ending cycle
I've seen that match live. Wang Hao was not even trying and defensive all the time. Compare the match with his matches in quarter and semis, even this match, you could clearly see Wang Hao can kick ass when he is motivated but somehow occasionally.
3 time silver man, that's gotta be disappointing for him. I'm just happy to see him still out there working toward that elusive gold. Hopefully the tides will flow his way in Rio.

Wang Hao deserved this win. He came ready to play and Ma Long did not. When Ma Long played Timo Boll he was cho-ing every point. Here, complete silence. Sadly, Wang Hao did not learn from Ma Long's mistake and brought a similar weak energy to the final against ZJK!

I guess the main tactic used by Wang Hao is to change the degree of spin against the top speed from high to zero by Ma, Zhang, Yim and Xu during the matches as frequently as possible. Maybe penhold could produce the sudden changing more easier than the another blade...

I have never seen Ma Long as dominated in a match.

wang hao failed to return malong's serve at 6:2 in the last game, but the judge said"let" which means malong did not score. At the end of the match, I guess wanghao said to malong"球擦了一下"(the ball touched the net)， pronounced as...you can google translate it. Just guessing by his mouth movement.

Wang Hao totally exploited Ma Long's weakness at that time: his backhand.
Ma Long couldn't bring his forehand into play.

is it me or Ma Long tried to apply Zhang Jike's strategy on that point which usually breaks Wang Hao's footwork?
What is BETTER than the reverse penhold with the knuckles TUCKED IN, not spread out over the bat, (unlike Xu Xin) Thought I was the only one on the planet who used that grip.

Backhand players are a problem for Ma Long
ML's BH is very good, his problem is his confidence.There are numerous matches that he crashes WH and ZJK on BH BH situations. He thinks his backhand is much lower level than his opponents (whereas the difference is not so high) and thats why he loses. He is struggling all the time to step around to use FH, predictable tactic and was used against him by WH as you said with diagonal BH. He should stay on BH BH and try to force WH to exchange FH rallies, clearly he is the best in the world in that

Wang hao likes Ma longs style no spin just power and fast play that's how he beat yan an and ma long but Zhang Jike is to good for wang hao because Zhang Jike spins very good wang hao has to block it back or go into a counter looping rally
oh in that case, it was such a pity that he couldn't get a gold medal despite deserving one all these years. Best wishes for whatever he's doing in the future.

Ma long lost to Wang Hao, simply because WH has much precise and strong backhand, while WH can almost compete with Ma long for forehand. ZJK on the other hand, has much better backhand, therefore ZJK wins over WH. For recently finished china open, Ma long has improved a lot for backhand, then he beat WH in the end.
He said :"Don't forget we will meet at XXXXXX(the address of some Chinese restaurant in Paris) tonight, are you clear?"

Reading his lips at the end, it appears WH said "zou sher la? uhn?" meaning "lost focus? right?".
Seems ML performed so poorly at the end, WH didn't want to take credit for his win.
