Thanks a lot. :-) I've got some more videos with Ryu Seung Min that I will edit and upload eventually - like the "epic" matches against Wang Liqin from the 2006 and 2007 World Championships. So please be patient - all good comes to those who wait... ;-)
Although Ryu Seung Min doesn't have many titles, he is always my favorite table tennis player of all time. He is the last pure JPEN player who reaches the world class level.
Olympic gold is more than enough. Nobody expected him to win at all. His playing style was a disadvantage due to the backhand side, yet he overcame it.
Shakehand grip also has disadvantages. The bar has been raised for traditional pen backhand not only for over the table techniques but also attacking topspin and counter drives. 이철승, an accomplished player was one of the pioneers for this. He lost in the seventh game against Werner Schlager in the 2002 U.S Open. His skills were world class. The regions such as Asia or S. America that use penhold; also use shake. While the rest of the world uses only shake. The % of players training pengrip technique are much less. This plays a big factor. Look are Ma Lin when he was young and fast. He hardly used reverse side, and when he did often it could have been a forehand anyway. Look at He Zhi Wen… 2004, 2008 Olympics traditional penholders won. Hopefully the world will see more world class caliber traditional athletes using traditional pengrip💥
Wang beaten Ryu in many matches in the past actually while he lost the most significant one. After all,Ryu's movement and forehand topspin was in his prime and I guess Malin had chance to defeat him but unfortunately Ma was stopped by Legendary old man Waldner.
@@wisher9823 for real. Like liu guoliang said, he didn't take into account the pressure and nerves of Wang hao playing in his first Olympics. He said he had the skill to win but was never mentally strong. Wang choked and never took advantage of the moment.
It’s a waste of talent for wang Hao. He could’ve have won the Olympic gold medal against Ryu if he wasn’t stressing too much in the finals since he can beat ryu in other matches.
@@christianwu1309 That's nonsense.Wang΄s personal coach said he lost the match because he didn't have the backhand down the line.He only practiced the cross court placement at the time.RSM said the same.On top of that RSM had a leg injury in 2005 and lost some footspeed.Of course a player with a physical game like RSM can't maintain his form for a long time but his peak was very high.
Thanks a lot. :-)

I admire both players. They are indeed among the all time top players.
0:10 Two strong serves in a row...
6:42 Three serve mess-ups in one single match...

Actually, it's just HIM that is too old. He won gold in Athens 8 years prior to this against who? Wang Hao.
Wang hao has won every single match against ryu except the olympic final one, not really just because ryu was too old

Imagine this guy with a backhand...
Blasphemy

Why him? His technique is too old to compete with any world top 10 players.
