I’ve always suspected as much (the GBA sound chip is very distinctive, for better or worse), especially since the sound team for this game weren’t shy about their influences (e.g. MJ’s Thriller at the start of the Giants’ Mausoleum, or Another Part of Me just before the loop point of Moonlight Temple), but I’ve never seen any definitive proof.
The intro to the song screams 90s games for me for some reason. There must be a song on SNES or Genesis that has a similar part. Perhaps I'm just crazy.
I actually enjoyed Twin Labs, however Chamber of Birth can get fucked in the most incredible fashion. Agitating music, dirty teleporters, needing to enter from two different entry points, that slanted totem that you just KNOW there is something you have to do to it but the solution is far from intuitive, those elephant statues everywhere that force you to put your axe away so you don't get judgement bolted to death combined with the high health of the elephants themselves, oh, and that endless pit that you need to grail out of and waste time backtracking should you take a hit traversing it. Boss was awesome though.
This song is kind of an acquired taste. It has this reputation as the worst song in the game, but I think it sounds good once you learn to discern the melody in its chaos.
I don't care what anyone says, this is hands-down the best song in La-Mulana.
