- On retreat in The Maldives we came across this incredible reef filled with pumping waves and nature's aquarium beneath. Sharks, turtles, reef fish and tubes - it's a pretty incredible combination and it's one of those sessions I'll be so excited to reminisce with my students about!

I don't know the first thing about surfing and only watch your channel because you rock it out there; I hope to one day learn, maybe after my college years. Are you ever afraid of the sharks, though? Every time I watch these, I'm waiting for Jaws to pop up on the screen 😂😂 Is there like a mindset or key to being relaxed out there because I'd be freaking out over, again, SHARKS! Or have you always been comfortable out at sea?

Don't watch Jaws as a kid is my best advice. That shit traumatized me through my entire bodyboarding experience, nearly 20 years. Still had many of my best times in life doing it. It's an incredible experience worth picking up should you ever get the opportunity. To be fair, the whole shark thing, there are few places where the odds of getting tickled are a bit high and even in those places bites are very unusual. I'm thinking places like Australia and South Africa. Reunion Island is the worst place I can think of and one spot in Fiji where they have a tuna canning factory. The whole West coast of the US, particularly California and all the way down the coast of Mexico has a reputation for being sharky but only certain spots are worth avoiding. The info should be all over the net. At the end of the day, when it's your day, it's your day. The odds are extremely low even in some reputedly bad spots except for unusual places mentioned above. If you just look up the stats for shark attacks, you'll see just how low they are despite the increasing numbers of people in the water so get out there and enjoy it if you can. The ocean is mystical and awesome.
@@papapetad Absolutely love this comment! And, yeah, I saw Jaws for the first time as a 4 year old, so you can imagine the impression it made. I'm sure the research will put my mind to ease as sharks are probably portrayed far differently in movies for "entertainment". Thanks for the encouragement 😁👍

Question. Do sharks actually surf the waves with you? I have watch documentaries that say they are learning more that they do love to surf the waves. Just curious if you’ve ever experienced this?

@@KalesBroccoli ahh that’s amazing I love the camera. The battery life is unmatched. I can easily surf with it for an hour without turning it on and off. If I decide to do it on and off it will last me about 2-3 hours. Thanks for sharing

Empty lineup, water clarity, insane reef and sea life, fun rippable waves, you can’t put a price on that man.
@@AndrewCooperr just had an empty line up with 6-8 foot barrels over a clear reef in Indo, no one out, only cost me an extra dollar in petrol to get there from the main breaks, not $3000 at the Maldives
