You need to find your center line first. Eyeballing it, or mounting heal to toe is not a good way to mount plates. Those plates are way off center, and too far forward. (Mostly like why you fell backward) Other than that, everything else is pretty straight forward, and correct. Though I would use a sinker drill bit on the metal insole after drilling the holes. That way the install bolts have a cupped hole to rest in, as all mounting screws have a sunken head. For tips on getting a good center line, youll want to measure the width of the heal, and mark the center. Then measure between the two outer bones on the ball of your foot, and mark then the center there. Those 3 points on your foot (heal & two outer bones) are what you use to control your trucks. Now with your two center marks made, draw a straight line between them with a roller. This your center line. It may appear to face slightly to the outside, if you compare it to the front of the shoe. Thats ok, because the toe of your shoe is meant to contour your toes, not the center of your foot. When aligning the plate forward and back, put it all the way to the back to where its flush with the heal. If your plate size is correct, this will put your wheels directly under those two original marks, one under the heal, and one under the ball of your foot. The perfect spot for proper truck control. I just wanted to add this info for anyone doing this, because a proper plate placement is crucial, if youre going to enjoy actually skating on them. (I'm mounted several plates to both skate shoes and regular shoes.)
@@ontoxicated8544 it might be a size too big, but I don't think it'll hurt. Plate sizes can be weird sometimes, since the plate sizes are based on that brands shoe size. And I can confirm that each brand fits veeery different. If its your first pair, that little bit shouldn't hurt, you're wheelbase will be a little longer, giving you more stability. Though control might feel a tiny bit stiffer. But if its a big concern, you can always return them and go one size down. The plate should usually be flush, or just a little short in the front, if you have it resting flush with the heal.
Thank you so much for your clarification because I'm planning on using my old skates plate, trucks, wheels everything because the boot ripped off so this will help a lot to adapt them to my Converse!

I looked this up because my parents wouldn’t let me buy any. I’m excited! Now I can use any shoes and have roller skates! I’m so excited to try this!!!
this is so cool! How did you figure out the converse vs insole sizing? I'm a little confused. did you go bigger in the converse and smaller in the insole or just one of those? thanks!
Meredith Zielonka you choose a half size bigger! So if your converse are 8.5 you buy a size 9 metal insole! But make sure to get a bigger shoe size than you already have or they will be to tight :)
I was also confused about the two really long screws until I was looking at a pair of my heeled skates and it clicked. Definitely meant for a platform/heel allowance (I think)
Quick question! On the website the “Sure Grip Super X Plate” doesn’t mention if it comes in a pair or if you have to buy them separately. Did you only order one or did you have to buy two? Thanks for adding the links to the products in your description.
Hey! Thanks for all the links. I’m trying to put together all the parts now. I was wondering for the sure grip super x plate did you use 8mm or 7mm for the axle? And for the size did you just follow your shoe size?
Hey Jacob, any reason you chose the wheels, trucks, and bearings for this? Would you recommend what you did or have you found any tips to consider in purchasing?
@@jacobzandershorts I have a question! for the trucks you bought, did they come in a pair of left and right? on the website it doesnt say, i just want to make sure!!!
Hi! I was hoping you could be more clear with sizes?! You said get 1/2 a size up on converse but they already run 1/2 a size big, so is that additional? Example, if I am a size 8, should i order size 8 1/2 converse that are going to fit like size 9? And the size 9 metal insole because that’s 1/2 a size up?
I'm from Philippines! I love it po ❤️ its so cool!! Anyone knows where to buy those for me to build my own???? Helpp please, I really wanted to have roller skates 🥺
Is it possible to buy something like this but adaptable to any shoe or boots? it would be amazing if I could carry only the platform and the wheels, put them on in a minute and go to work without carrying a huge roller skate while having my shoes in a bag
Thank you so much for sharing! Using the link you shared, are the Skating Trucks sold as priced for 1 truck or a set of 2? I’m trying to get my budget together for my own DIY and it isn’t clear on their website.
I have a question are they comfortable and are they harder to skate in also do they have good speed and also are they toe stoppers good and last is there support in the ankle
I just bought the material for this, arriving this week. My question is, how durable is this? Will the converses be destroyed after a couple of rides? Haha, I have a pair of Chuck 70s that are holographic and I want to use them, but also want it to last.
Hi! I want to start roller skating and wanted to ask if it is safe for beginners to do this (or to do this in general).Tbh I’ve got no clue about roller skating but I kinda want to try this, so if someone could tell me about their opinion it would really help.

i purchased my trucks the same size as my shoe but the whole metal plate itself sticks out about 3/8's on both front and back. is that alright?

Christian Ross hey Christian! They come in a pair!! Dm me pics when you make them!! I wanna see 🙌🏽
I realize most skates have Heels on the back and that’s the reason for the longer screws in the mounting kit
Can I use any pair of footware for this? Cos I'm plaaning on adding wheels to some boots.
Most people are from other sites while I'm actually from TH-cam searching

Emma Niemans about $175!

what about your ankles? converse give no support here so was it really diff to turn??
Where did you get all your skate material?
Hey! I was wondering if converse is a good shoe to give ankle support? Any thoughts?
This is what I came here for too n I’m sad nobody answered:/
The bolts/screws were long because they are meant for heeled skates, meaning they are longer because of the heigh of the heel.
I have a question are they comfortable and are they harder to skate in also do they have good speed and also are they toe stoppers good and last is there support in the ankle
How thick is the metal insole?
Have a pair of boot skates Im looking to remake into high top shoeskates like we did back in the 70/80s… if the boot don’t fit, change it!
are these better for street skating or park skating? they are so cool want to make sure I know when to were them!
I won't suggest using Converse for park skating since they don't give much ankle support
I hate my skates design😩 Thanks po this idea and tutorial!😁

Is it more affordable than buying skates?
Depends, Amazon has skates for $40
H20fanatic20 yea but i’d recommend someone buying skates starting at around $100. if you go any cheaper the quality will be really bad.
Sammy Molina it was about $120 for the skate parts!
looks great. gonna try. thxxx :))
