- On some models of the Whirlpool Fridge, the water filter is located on the lower left near the floor of the unit as in this side-by-side fridge.
Note: The filter is located near the floor of the fridge.
In this video, I'll show:
What filter to purchase?
How to replace the filter
How to reset the filter alert.
It's always a good idea to flush the unit for 2 gallons of water before using it to get rid of the charcoal in the new filter.

Thank you. I didn’t even need to finish the video. All I needed to see was where the filter was hiding and that it was the same #1 type. Without the first part of the video I would have torn apart my fridge looking. I’m cool like that.
You're welcome!
Thank you for knowing that you need to tell people where the filter is in the refrigerator before you can replace it.
Thanks! Other videos the filter was inside the fridge. I had a feeling mine was dowon below but I wante to see someone change it online. So, thank you.
Thank you so much for this! I have the same fridge but it’s kenmore and I love it. I bought a simple fridge so it would last just like my old one still working fine in the garage. My mom bought the fridge with the screen on the front and already had several service calls. And the ice maker leaks in the fridge. No thank you simple is best.
Great video. I was about to take the back off my fridge looking for the filter.
Glad I could help
So much better video instructions than the. Whirlpool company
This has taught me that the little white thingy that pulls the filter out when you open the hatch is broken on my fridge lol nice
You just helped me with this, currently red light displayed "H2O" on my refrigerator. Thank you for your tips
Glad I could help
Help, great video, it's like mine, finally but where is the reset button located? Confused Lady.
My problem is ....no matter what, i cannot get filter out. My fefigerator is a whirlpool side by side. Help me please with instructions on how to getit out...please.
Did you try a pair of channel locks or pilers to pull it out?
I have tried it. Thank you for replying . Have a good day.
@user-et4bv7mi5x had the same issue same type of fride and filter.
Just used a small flathead screw driving to really wedge in there and pop it out... had to use some force
ME too! Can't find a video for this!
Me too
Thank you Netman for this helpful video! Great work!
Oh wow. We have the same exact fridge!! I saw the light came on and had no idea where the filter was located or anything. Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much for this video as I was looking for it to change out and couldn’t find it. Now looking for temperature adjustments and my Whirlpool almost identical to yours but can’t seem to find it. Great job on your video !!
You are welcome!
I never knew it had a filter. My ice was smelly and this guy who hooked up my fridge to make ice told me about the filter and I checked it out. Mine is a whirlpool as well. So anyway thanks for the tip.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for helping us change filter.
I have a Whirlpool refrigerator side by side exactly like the one you used.I still don't know where the reset button is located.
It’s on top of the fridge door when the door is opened
Thank you so much this just help me to remove H20 sign on my whirlpool refrigerator .
Thank you for my clean water... I now know how to put a new filter in
Great video & thank you!! Only issue is now my door is not closing all the way once I reinserted new filter... can't understand why??? 🤔 Plz help!!
Check the filter position while putting back in.
@@netman88 Thank you!! 🙏🙏
when I pulled out my old water filter the same as in your video, the small piece of the plastic on the top of the filter suddenly broke down, and stuck in the housing. How can I take it out?
thank you!
Maybe try a long pliers to pull it out.
Thanks the refrigerator Used in the demonstration is exactly like mine, thank goodness. Please,I still can't find the reset button. Is the reset button inside the refrigerator? HELP, Confused Lady
It's in the video. See 05:00 of the video and see that instructions there.
Thank you for sharing your instructions were very exact! Thank you.
Good video netman. Folks watch out for the cheap plastic door filter release. My filter was tight so the door handle broke no problem. Also door used to pop open sometimes. Seems to have stopped? The OEM filter costs fifty steep in yo face bucks. But generics will probably fail. Good luck!
The white plastic piece is missing from the door on mine. Do you know what to do?
Me TOO, $170 later for filter and filter housing!!
Great help , I was looking for location 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you Sir. Appreciate the thorough instructions.
Very welcome
Thank you for this video! When I open the filter door, the filter doesn’t pop out .. I had to force it out.. what do I do? Did I break it? Where can I call for someone to check this?
It was probably misaligned when it was out in before. If it goes in fine, I wouldn’t worry about it.
You can call appliance repair company if it’s an issue
@@netman88thanks soooooo much! I was able to re-install the filter and rest it 😬that’s the part I was forgetting to do. Again, thanks! 😊😊
Will the ice maker stop working because the filter light came on & need change? Thx
nope. Ice maker should still work. Check if any water is going to the fridge and if the ice have solidify together if no ice.
@@netman88 Thx for the info. Water 💦 still work, ice 🧊 maker just stop about 12-14 months in
I have a Kenmore model 106.5133* it is different from the LG no filter light. I have changed the water filter but the ice maker doesn't work minec is in the door and see no post on how to change the unit.
Water filter housing no long functioning properly just cut half of a popsicle stick or toothpicks as shims to keep to the water filter connection tight within the housing. Use a groove joint plier to remove the old water filter and after that reuse the shim with the new filter. The only function of the housing door now is for adornment only. I have been doing this for 4 years with no problems.
Thanks for sharing.
I taped a couple of quarters to the butt end. Then the door pushed it in far enough when it clicked shut
@@1derncool I tried this last month with electrical tape at both ends of the filter and it is still working with no problems. This method you posted is the best and efficient way to rectify the filter connecting problem.
The arm connection from the door to the filter was no longer engaged, so I couldn't get the filter out. I used a pair of Channellock pliers to eject the filter with a tug to break the seal, after which the filter cam out NP. Door still functioned to reseal the filter after changing to the new one.
The water is not coming out after replacing. Any ideas?
shutoff water, pull out and re-install. Make sure everything lines up with the arrow.
Same problem I’m having-water will not come out after replacing the filter, driving me crazy! Any other suggestions?
@@jeremiemichael I am having the same problem! Did you find a solution?
@@jennifergarcia2059 no, I never did 🫤
I had the same problem and fixed it!! It seems weird & counter-intuitive, but when you close the filter door, don’t press it all the way. For me, it only works when I barely close the door until the click. Any additional pressure causes the fridge to make noise and not dispense water. (When I put the old filter, same make and model, it works fine even if I press it hard)
Thank you so much for this video
Help! Mine is stuck. It won't come out when I open the door. How do I get it out?
Probably stuck tight inside. Probably need to get a large pliers to pull it out.
@@netman88 Thanks so much for replying. I did exactly that and it worked!
Glad to help.

Thanks, very straightforward, no time wasted good job
You're welcome!
I have changed my filter several times but this last on won't come out! I have tried locking pliers but it won't budge. Help.
Probably need to have fridge specialist to look at it.
I already have a whole-house water filtration system. Seem redundant to have yet another filter in the refrigerator. Is there a water bypass plug that can be used instead of a filter on this unit?
That that I know of.
If you just leave the filter out water will come through the door.
Do I just sit and let 5 gallons go through the water dispenser to prime it? Or is there another method to flush it prior to install?
No other way to prime it. Maybe save the water for plants if no salt in water.
Ice maker quit and I found change filter light on. Replaced and checked operation now no water and no ice.
Is there water to the ice dispenser?
I have had a Whirlpool refrigerator for three years, but I have never used the ice maker or water dispenser. However, the filter light is still on. Under such circumstances, I do not belive I even need to install a new one. Am I right? Thanks!
Yes, no need unless you use it. That’s my take also.
I just changed my filter as usual, and after doing it, the fridge won’t dispense water. I can hear like it’s on when I push the water button, but no water comes out. Help!
Maybe try shutting off the water, remove the filter and reinstall. Maybe it's not installed correctly.
Thanks for the help!! 😊
Changed the filter with original #1 whirlpool, went in fine, pressed the reset button held it for 3 sec as indicated. Water flow good, ran 3-4 gallons, ice maker not functioning, is there another step to the process?
Nope. That's the step. Did you empty enough water out? I seem some suggesting 5 gallons once installed, it will clear out the carbon and any air on the line.
Thanks friend.
Same here, I could not find it either thank you so much
What if the filter will not come out
This was helpful, thanks!
Why my fridge leak when I get water from the water dispenser I have a whirlpool
Hard to tell over the internet.
👍Great video. Very through. I keep misplacing my manuals. (Don't ask) I won't misplace the video. I put a link to it on my phone.
Thank you @netman88. This was very helpful. FYI - also works for WRS322FDAM04. 👍
Glad to help.
Every time I try to remove the filter, a lot of water comes out. How do I change that problem?
Try. Turning off the water for the home first. There still will be some water when you remove the filter.
Do I need to reset anything? Or does it automatically reset it self
Details in the video
@@netman88
Thank you I got it. It was on the front digital display panel, going through the option menu, press reset filter, then press confirm.
My filter area looks like a twist opening, not a door. How do I remove old filter? I've twisted, pushed, and pulled, no luck.
I'm not familiar with your fridge. If they design it right, twist counter-clockwise to remove in most cases.
@@netman88 Finally Success!! Had to get heavy duty pliers to turn. Now to put the new one in. Thanks for replying.
I have this but when I read the filter it says to run the water thru 4 gallons
Yes, I didn’t see mines dirty after a few gallons
I need some assistance. My water filter is stuck in the housing and it is not coming out. Also the housing door will not stay shut. I have to use tape to keep the housing door closed. This has never happened before. Any recommendations
You'll need a long pilers to pull it it and re-insert the filter.
My situation is worse. When I tried to shut the door , the white part fell off and I cannot put it together.
The water filter will not come out
Did you try a pair of channel locks or pilers to pull it out?
WRF560SEHZ00 I have this fridge
And I have the warning to change the fridge and freezer filter, where is the freezer filter ? I don’t need the water filter and I know where is the fridge filter
I just don’t know where is the freezer filter
I believe there's no freezer filter.
I replace water filter ( i have the same refidgerator) and after when i replace water filter water and ice stop working. Please advice!
Check the water line for kinks or bents first. If that's good, turn off water remove the filter and re-install. Hope it's using the OEM filter.
@@netman88 Water line is good because when i take off water filter water is running. But when i put filter inside hole and close 'door' water stop working... Yes i bought water filter at Home Depot

i WAS SEARCHIONG FOR THE FILTER SPACE ON A UNIT IN A HOUSE WE JUST BOUGHT - i DID N OT EVEN THINK TO LOOK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRIDGE. thanks
Same! Hahaha
I have the same fridge and the filter does not pop out. What should I do?
You will want a larger pair of pilers to pull it out.
Push the filter hard to the right, insert a screw driver on the left side and guide out
Why the filter door doesn't close
hard to tell from a post. Latch not engaging probably.
Mine is stuck inside and won't come out. What do I do?
Get a large piler and pull it out.
@@netman88 Yeah, that's what I tried. I'll get a bigger one though.
i changed my filter and water flow is slow. i put the old one back and strangely it’s slow as well. it was not before i removed it. with no filter, flow is as expected. any thoughts?
I would check the water to the fridge for kinks or bends or the water is turned all the way up.
@@netman88 ty for the reply. kinks even if the fridge dispenses normal when the filter is off?

When I put my filter in it pops back out. Did anyone have that issue?
I didn’t encounter that issue. Something broke inside.
does the indicator turn red when the water is dirty or every 6 months? When does it turn red
It's timed for every 6 months or so.
Anyone know if there is a bypass plug for fridges with this filter? Installed an RO. System and now it won't make ice. Thinking it may be due to lack of water pressure from two different filtration systems
No bypass that I know of. Check the water line for kinks to the fridge.
In my case the filter door is broken off & the filter is stuck how do it get it out?
Use a long pair of pliers and pull the filter out.
Hello, tonight i went to change the filter and water was gushing out! I had to shut off the water valve and do the major clean up. What will cause continous water flow from the filter port when changing? thanks.
Could be lots and of stuff. Valve, hose. Probably need an appliance technician to look.
Very good; thank you!

Why does my filter door automatically pops out sometimes?
Either it just pulled or something else.

Will the filter click into place or just the door shut? How do I know it is engaged? What holds it in place? Just if the water comes out the dispenser vs onto the floor? I pulled mine out to order and not sure it is in place and secure when back in the fridge. Thank you
Yes it should click in place if you align the arrow right when the door closes. If the door doesn't close, it's not done right.

Shouldn't be related. Are you using the OEM filter? How is it leaking?
