    Great replacement for the over priced Whirlpool variant. After watching this video I went to Amazon to order the two pack filters and read a lot of reviews. Upon reading the reviews I discovered some people had to remove the o-rings from the old Whirlpool filter and put them on the Kenmore filter to make it fit and close properly. That was also the case for me but once I did that it worked just fine. My fridge has filter at the bottom and I have to open the freezer to access it, so maybe that's why I needed to swap the o-rings. Either way, thanks for this because you saved me a ton of money!

    Thank you for this! I’ve known for years that Kenmore/Whirlpool are the same thing…I just never thought to purchase a Kenmore filter! “Nobby-nobby” sealed the deal for me. :). You two are a joy to watch! I purchased through your Amazon link and am eager to look through the other products you have listed there!

    Read the chemicals removed. Filters may look they same but are typically not. I don't know which filters they used, when I looked into it, the cheaper filters did not remove all of the harmful contamination.

    One more update, the Kenmore filters in my most recent order didn’t quite fit right into the socket on my Whirlpool. I found another video that suggested snipping a little off the plastic knob below the 2 plugs and that solution worked for the newest Kenmore filters that I received on Amazon.

    I have a question. My installer said that my refrigerator wouldn’t roll back-and-forth once it was filled with food however it’s still rolls back-and-forth. There is nothing in the manual that says how to get it to stop rolling. Have you had this problem thank you.

    • @TheProjectHelpDesk
      @TheProjectHelpDesk  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@markreiman571 I am nort at home to check, but I think there are two leveling feet in the front. You use a wrench to make them go up and down. If you use them to put friction on the floor, then it should stop the rolling.

      Are you getting Filter 4? They had a set of 3 on Amazon for $21 with one day shipping for our area. We have filter 1 which are more expensive even with the name brands (Everydrop for example is currently $54 for Filter 1 and $43 for Filter 4).

    Our says to run 4 gallons of water through it before drinking the water. This is to make sure any of the lose sediment and carbon inside the filter can flow out and you don't accidently drink any of it. Ours says it filters for 6 months or 200 gallons of water. Whichever comes first.
    Our filter also says it is a Mechanical and Chemical reduction filter.

    Just because the filter has a compatible fits does not mean they will have the quality/level of filtration. The OEM is certified to ANSI 42 and 53:
    "This standard offers over 50 contaminant reduction claims. Some of the most popular include:
    lead, Cryptosporidium, VOCs and chromium"
    All cheaper ones I can see are only are rated to ANSI 42 for non health filters just taste improvement:
    "Chlorine, taste and odor, chloramine, particulate, iron, manganese, zinc and total dissolved
    solids (TDS)"
    It has to do with the pour size of the filter medium. If the product does not say ANSI 53 you can bet it is just 42 rated. Ultimately you do get what you pay for.

    • @SG-ni8tk
      @SG-ni8tk 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kurt, I have the oem, first filter and the replacement which is the same one that this video covers. The cheaper Kenmore package mentions ANSI 42, 53. I don’t see a holographic genuine sticker though. Seems too good to be true. I say counterfeit. Here’s my next question, how do you make your own??

  • @alansvevar6064
    @alansvevar6064 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    EBay and Amazon selling a lot of counterfeit filters. I guess for one fifth of the price, you get what you pay for. That being said, I'm filtering perfectly safe municipal water, that just happens to have a strong chlorine taste. The cheaper carbon filters do remove the chlorine, but don't always work. When I get one that doesn't work, I find that it is slightly shorter than the working one I just removed. The padding the bottom of the filter trick, to make up for the shortfall, does not always work either. Found YT video that suggested snipping off a fraction of the guide pin. Now a new filter, that I was ready to toss, works!

      We are in a similar situation. We have pretty good well water and a whole house sediment filter. Our fridge filter is mainly there as a backup. And yeah, nowadays it is hard to trust anything isn't fake. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Sometimes the filters from the other brand will be just a fraction shorter, so if it leaks when you put it in just fold a small piece of paper over place it behind the filter, and close the door. You may have to adjust the thickness of the paper shim, but it works. And don't let anyone tell you the cheaper doesn't have the quality, because it does.

    Hello very informative video, is it compatible with the whirlpool filters on the bottom of the fridge my model has the filter at the bottom of the fridge?This is my model Whirlpool WRS321SDHZ01 Water Filter (OEM)

    • @TheProjectHelpDesk
      @TheProjectHelpDesk  ปีที่แล้ว

      While it is hard to verify 100%, my manual for my fridge does show both the in fridge as well as the one on the bottom in the options. So it is a very high chance. As long as it looks very similar the chances are good. But sadly their is some risk, as they do not specify all the different models that it will fit. Luckily, Amazon does have a fairly easy return policy just in case.

    • @TheProjectHelpDesk
      @TheProjectHelpDesk  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the first thing I would do is try putting the old filter back in if you still have it. Make sure the old one still works. Then you know it is something with the filter and not something in the fridge. There really isn't a lot to this style of filter. As long as all dimensions are identical, including on any plastic alignment pins, they should just work. Not all of these cheap knockoffs are the same. This specific brand has done us well. But some of them could be just broken. Worst case scenario, return it for another one and see if that one works better.

  • @taterlysaladman9377
    @taterlysaladman9377 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Some of the bootleg filters are now being made too short. They will not allow water to flow correctly, either water is blocked, or you will hear studdering, as they on/off/on/off the valves in your fridge. This is due to the filter body being made too short. Duct tape a quarter to the bottom of the filter to make it long enough to work properly.

    • @alansvevar6064
      @alansvevar6064 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, hardly noticeable, but it's shorter enough to cause problems, even when you "pad" the bottom. I saved a correct length filter to check my replacements. Also, cutting off a fraction of the tiny guide pin on top helps the filter seat better.

    I bought this fridge after I saw one of your reviews from Costco, however, I have 2 issues now not sure if it’s normal or not. First one is there is some frost built up on back of the wall at the freezer, some looks like Peral, I used the ice scraper to get rid of it, 2nd is there is a very loud ice maker water re-fill sound after the ice is dropped. Do you have those issues with yours? The fridge is only one week old. The Costco sent someone to check (not a tech), so they didn’t bother to check anything, just said may be the ice maker is built in the door, the noise will be louder, and asked me if I want to replace a new one. I hate to go through the nightmare to swap the old/new fridge, if they are normal, then I can live with it. Any thoughts? Thx!

    • @TheProjectHelpDesk
      @TheProjectHelpDesk  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that this has a built in defroster. Basically a heating element behind the rear panel that comes on long enough to melt the ice build up but not long enough to defrost your food. I personally have never seen any ice build up that was thick enough to scrape off. That is a little odd and might be worth calling support. The ice maker on ours is loud. The water refill operation specifically.

    I miss the old days when refrigerators were well made and lasted. Now it’s all cheap plastic but the prices don’t reflect the quality. To expect someone to pay $60 every 6 months should tell you something about the company. They don’t care about the customer and are doing everything they can to increase profits. Our Samsung fridge stopped working after we nada power outage. I was in the middle of a Covid battle and didn’t have the ability to figure out what the issue was . My wife has no ability to do anything like that and as the refrigerator was over 10 yrs old I to hereto go buy a new one. My friend went with her I told them to just pick one that was similar to what we had . They came back with a whirlpool side by side. It cost about $1400 on sale. Had all we needed but within a week I hated it. Everything was just so cheaply made.. wish I had my Samsung back. I remember when buying American meant something. Now even being a citizen seems to have different values.

    • @TheProjectHelpDesk
      @TheProjectHelpDesk  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There isn't a lot to hold them in place. It is basically just the friction of the O-Ring pressing against the case. Sometimes an o-ring can stick. That is why I prefer to lube mine with Vaseline. The plastic door is supposed to push it out when it pops open.

  • @nonagzone1

    you need to check it with a meter to see the quality of your water. Just because it works doesn't mean anything. I did the same thing with my samsung and found the water quality was almost like no filter at all

    • @TheProjectHelpDesk
      @TheProjectHelpDesk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True statement. In fact, both of these filters are, for the most part, not much more than a basic carbon filter. We cut the first one apart out of curiosity. We actually have both a TDS and PH digital meter as well as a test strip testing kit. Because we are already on a well connection, we saw no noticeable difference in any of the categories with either filter. It is most likely that these are so close to each other that the only way to detect a difference would be through an expensive water company test or a lab environment test. I don't think that any home test kit is accurate enough to detect anything. Especially if you have clean water in the first place.

    you video its funny and helpfull for those people don't know about water filters job fuction. Yes, you save money but in the same time the quality of the water is not the same and wont for 6 months. This I will suggest to change it every 3 or 4 months to be safe. Why not to save some bucks from your pocket, right?

    • @TheProjectHelpDesk
      @TheProjectHelpDesk  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be nice to see a real world comparison analysis between these two filters, but I don't have the money for that. At the end of the day they are both just a basic sediment and carbon filter and have limited capabilities. Mainly intended to remove chlorine and sediment. We noticed no discernible difference between the taste of the two, but we are on a well, which also tastes fine to me. We mainly wanted to ensure that everyone knew of the option so that they could decide for themselves. About 10% of the people who click our link wind up buying the Every Drop filter instead. And so far, no one has returned either of them. Yeah, even if I changed it every 2 months, the Kenmore winds up being cheaper.

      My husband says it doesn't taste any different. I drink out of our other water filter for the most part because I prefer osmosis filtration, but we've had it in there since we filmed this and the filter light hasn't indicated it needs changing early and our water tastes like it does with the one it came with originally. A lot if people have purchased it with our link and it's only been returned one time. And our guess is that person may have had filter 2 or 3 instead bx that was ordered at the same time and filter 1 was returned.

      This is very true. As always, when purchasing something, everyone has to decide what value proposition they are looking to get. We generally pay the extra cost to get things from Amazon because of the impeccable track record they have had with us in regards to customer service. I once accidentally cancelled a shipment when it was only a few stops from my house. I went onto chat and tried to get them to keep the delivery but they were unfortunately unable to do that. After saying that I understood, the support rep gave me a refund and scheduled to have another one delivered the next day for free. I wound up getting a free $300 jointer because I accidentally cancelled the order. And I get everything in one to two days even though we live out in the country. Two of my wife's friends ordered clothing from Temu and both had long wait times and received a different item than they ordered. Apparently it is common for them to 'Substitute' similar items sometimes. But, I try to never discourage others, so everyone should do their own research on Temu to see if this is an option for them. You can also see a fairly good article here. This appears to be fairly balanced in the positives and negatives of the new service. www.zdnet.com/article/is-temu-legit-what-to-know-about-this-wildly-popular-shopping-app/
