Finally back with another demo, and this is a really good one. Float is hands down the most inspiring filter pedal I've ever played. Hope you dig the serene sweeps as much as I do. If you enjoyed the demo, then please don't hesitate to leave a comment or a like, or maybe even share the video with your partners in tone. It all really helps appease the almighty YT algorithm more than you could ever think. Thank you for being awesome! - Stefan
This pedal is an absolute modern day classic. This was an exceptional showcase of what it can do Stefan, the more ambient bits were just a treat. Well done sir! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, my friend! Happy to hear you enjoyed sitting in the middle of that soundscape as much as I did. Float contains some truly mesmerising potential.
As always, absolutely blown away by you Stefan. Your musical choices absolutely inspire me, seriously. Plus, your explanation and breakdown of the Float’s functions was thorough and very easy to follow and understand. Amazing job!
Sorry - late to the party. Firstly - nice demo. Enough exploration of the device without getting bogged down in trivia and nice to see variation in the signal source. That's a good presentation. And if OBNE read this - I''m saving up for this. I'd save up a bit more for presets - I can visualise band mates getting fed up with knob twiddling and 'I'll have it in a minute' routines. But I've watched all the videos I can find on this and feel it'll inspire me. Good work. Yeah, I know - say it with cash.
Now purchased. As I suspected...not easy to use, definitely not for those that want instant results. Expensive, but if you want esoteric then that's literally the price. Presets would be a boon for live use (but possibly make it a bit too expensive).
Very intrigued with the independent stereo lines. Btw have to thank you for not only your demo's but discovering HOLY FAWN from you. The wait for their new release was worth it.
yet another huge home run for the channel, Stefan. your productions are absolutely singular, and i for one have huge gratitude for the rewatchability. Dan may have explained it all, but you showed us how to get there. also: isn't Float just incredible? our OBNE people are incredibly good at their jobs. Also also: Float>SL20. you'll know it when you hear it
Great to see you back with a gorgeous demo of the Float, Stefan. This is such a powerful, musical tool and I can see it excelling in a desk-top application. The live tweaking potential is immense. As always, you demonstrate what can be achieved in a melodic context, which is simply beautiful.
Mange tak, Jarne! It is definitely a pedal that requires time before you unlock the full potential. The controls are just super responsive and span a really wide spectrum. But it's definitely rewarding once you fully understand everything it's capable of and how the different controls interact.
I wasn't convinced about this effect until 16:30, where the sounds blend from the Dark Star and Astral Destiny within the stereo sound design. (I could live in that track- put it on the list of possible instrumental album in the future?). Also, this looks killer for synth filter sweeps and stereo imaging. Really surprised how useful Float is in a musical context on guitar! Thanks for proving me wrong about this one.
Absolutely serene!! More videos!!!! 🙏🙏 I’m sure they are not easy to make and edit along with learning new pedals tho the IPad part was so beautiful!!!
Awesome demo as always. But I am even more impressed with the Baum Wingman! I would love a whole demo just on the guitar. It looks rad, and probably sounds just as great!
You're the best, Andy. Thank you for taking the time to watch the demo and follow up with such a sweet comment. You and OBNE made something really great with Float ❤
@@thepedalzone why thank you!!! Yeah. Definitely another one for the “Dream away with Stefan”-playlist. Your compositions are becoming ever more gorgeous and masterful, man! I’m going to dust off my ehx mod 11 pedal and see if even 1% of these tones are hidden in there. Guess not, cause even though it does have modulated filter with envelopes, it’s not an obne creation 😅 Those guys hit everything out of the known universe!
That pedal looks awesome. My only gripe is there's so many knobs and no preset system, which would probably make it difficult to use live. Probably still buying it. Lol
It is really awesome, but yeah, I also touch upon the live use hiccups, which are most definitely there, in my final verdict. Presets and Tap Tempo would have made it perfect. But great is often good enough, and this is a REALLY GREAT filter pedal.
Good to be back for sure. Happy you enjoyed the demo. Float and Horizont are wildly different. Horizont is a stereo phaser. Phase-shifting is made up of 2 or more bandpass-filters moving via an LFO. Float is a dedicated dual filter pedal. You can use it to create phaser sounds, but you can do so much more with it. It has a much deeper synthetic potential due to its different filter modes (LPF, BP & HPF) and dedicated resonance control. So it all depends on what you want to achieve. If you want a psychedelic phaser then Horizont is the way. If you want a highly customizable filter then Float is the ticket.
Some great ideas and a fascinating inventive pedal. Think this is an OBNE pedal I'll skip though. I run an analogue synth through a dark Star/MD500/DD6/Immerse/RC500 in stereo as part of my rig gives me lots of these sounds anyway. If you didn't have a synth already I could certainly see the attraction though.
2:15 What was the name of that guitarist? I couldn't quite understand the second name. It seems not to be "Austin" and the subtitles suggested "offline".
Happy you liked the demo. Means a lot to me! And thanks for making me aware of the ads. Mid-roll ads had been activated by a mistake. I'll get that fixed.
I've just got this pedal, it's incredibly sound awesome. but..I got a big crack noise when press the footswitch. is this specification? have anyone else got this issue? I'm disappointed...
If you're getting loud pops and noise when engaging the pedal, then it's typically down to the power supply you're using or something in front of it in your chain causing down stream issues. Have you tried isolating the pedal, so it's the only one you're using? And what Power Supply are you using?
Exp jack doesn't accommodate for an external tap?? Brutal! Still.. this thing seems near impossible to beat, as far as filter pedals go. Bravo, Stephan!
Great video Stefan. You always find creative ways to present the full range of tones in each pedal. Btw, have you ever played any Alexander Pedals? Some of them seem to be right in your wheelhouse.
Thank you very very much! I've only played Alexander Pedals briefly at NAMM. They all sounded very interesting though. Hope I get the chance to check them out more extensively in the future :)
Sorry I'm new to pedals and stupid. I do not quite get what a filter actually does in all of this sound mish mash 😂😢 I really like the design of the Float Dual Filter but I have no Idea if it makes sense to use it with my Cutting Room Floor V2 to create a LoFi Sound at all
Oh, a fixed filter is an essential part of a lo-fi sound. You would be able to use Float to emulate old telephone-like sounds by using a bandpass filter. You can use the low-pass filter to make dark and muffled sounds like deeply worn out tape. Or you can use a high-pass filter to really thin out the sound to simulate the reduced frequency range of cheap tape recorders. You can also use Float as a dynamic filter (an auto-wah essentially) and just completely remove the resonance, which will create this fluctuating dynamic filter response that you would get from a tape that's about to disintegrate (think the extreme wow and flutter in Disintegration Loops for instance).
