    I've spent decades taking 4WD vehicles up narrow Rocky Mountain trails. The simple rule about trail damage is this: if you take a full-size pickup, no matter how good it is, on these trails often enough, you WILL get trail damage. So, if you don't want your $50K+ brand new truck to get trail damage, then stay off of narrow mountain trails. If you wonder why a lot of 4-wheelers have old "beater" 4WD pickups for this kind of use, now you know why.

      @@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 Wat. That list first of all is talking full sized. Secondly its a very appropriate list. Thirdly, Ram Rebel was doing Tremor before the Tremor was a pipe dream. • @fabulousoffroaddesigns5080
      @fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dfdorsey85 Rebel is an FX-4 competitor and not a very good one at that. Just look at the sales numbers. FX-4 came out in 2002, and it took Dodge/Ram 14 years to make a competitor with a horrible approach angle.
      The TREMOR is a new level. These are specialty trucks with BIG POWER, 2 Lockers, and off road programming. It's competitors are the 2022 Chevy ZR2, and possibly the 2022 Toyota TRD-Pro which in Toyota fashion is replacing the front locker with brake force traction control.
      When RAM builds a Rebel with the 392, their good rear axle, and a front locker (if the front end is strong enough to handle one), that would compete with the TREMOR.
      Keep in mind RAM, Jeep, and Toyota are being sued by Land Rover for patent infringement over the use of their Hill Decent Control, brake Traction Control, and Terrain Modes. Ford is not being sued because they co-own the patents are are in no fear of losing the technology moving forward.

    • @dfdorsey85
      @dfdorsey85 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 The FX4, Z71, and Ram 4x4 Off-Road (Warlock) are in the same class. The Rebel, Trailboss, Tremor, Pro4x, and TRD PRO are in the same class. That is the competition price points for these builds. Tremor is nothing special. It's a Raptor light, with less credentials, and an almost same sticker price. Same as Rebel vs TRX. They have locker(s). They have off-road electronics. They have lifts. They have Skids. They are marketed as Off-Roaders.
      The ZR2 competes with Gladiator Rubicon and maybe Ranger Tremor. ZR2 = Jeep Gladiator. A Lot of a size difference between it and Tremor. (Personally I'd take a ZR2 for serious off roading vs Tremor for its smaller size/footprint).
      Your comment of Tremor being a new level really makes you sound biased towards Ford. That's fine, everyone has their favorites. I see nothing special over what Andre could do for cheaper with his rig and a few $$$ in upgrades.

      I have been waiting for some prices! Trying to decide if it's worth it. I've owned a couple of new F150s now, and my go-to has always been the STX 4x4 (sub-40k for crewcab both times), then straight to tire shop for $800 2" lift front and rear, $1200 for new tires, with some wheel spacers to help with the stance. After removing the front air valance, I'm all in for around $40k TOTAL for a brand new F150 that looks almost exactly like the Tremor (and I got to pick my own tires). Just not sure that extra $20k is worth the seat stitching and Torsen axle....does look good for a factory rig for sure, but is it the honest consensus that the Tremor is far more capable in average offroad situations than your standard 4x4 with the above mentioned mods? (I also have the electronic rear locker which was pennies on the option sheet, so a no-brainer). I was hoping the Tremor upcharge would be more in the 1 thousands, not tens of thousands. A little disappointed....

      @@peruser155 In your case it definitely doesn't sound worth it. I was looking for a XLT with 302a at the time. It you add the 3.5 and similar options it's about $3K more for the Tremor. And the upgraded motor (mine have always been the 2.7 which have been awesome, but I have heard great things about the bigger version). My comment mostly referred to someone who wants the "base" trim and then wants to simply add Tremor content from Ford instead of spending all day at the tire shop, and was hoping for comparable costs, to my dismay. Your Tremor sounds awesome...hope I can get the higher trims someday (I want that full panel sunroof!) Congrats on your purchase and you are so right about reward; life is short.

      The F-150 Tremor has a much better approach angle, to the tune of nearly 8 degrees, a better breakover angle to the tune of about 2 degrees, while the Ram Rebel has a slightly better departure angle to the tune of about one-half of a degree. I have a 2021 XLT 3.5 ecoboost Fx4. The OEM suspension setup is the problem. I replaced the OEM front and back shocks and the UCAs. I installed the Fox 2.5 Performance Elite Coilovers with DSM reservoirs for the front and rear shocks. It gave the front end a 2.5” lift. I also replaced the oem UCAs with the BDS performance UCAs. I also replaced the OEM tires with the Falken Wildpeak AT3 all terrain 33” tires. Travel is much improved when off-roading and light to moderate rock climbing. Now the truck is setup for true off-roading and some rock climbing too. This setup is competitive with a base Tremor, or better.

    • @peruser155
      @peruser155 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He could easily be at Tremor level for less than $2000. Tires, 2" lift front and rear, and even have some left over for moderate wheel spacers for that "look." Only thing really missing would be the front locker, and I didn't see any content in this video that would warrant that, compared to the electronic rear locker option available on ALL F150 trims. $2k Andre! Would be money well spent. It's exactly the first thing I do with my base crewcabs.

    Well done, Andre and Nathan. Andre, you now have some battles scars on your truck, so it is truly broken in! I think Andre should try a beefier tire on his truck, and compare how much the ride quality, or MPG's are affected by it. It could also be fun to swap out those dim halogen bulbs with some really nice LED headlights from Headlight Revolution or 4x4truckled.

    Note: you can fit any stock 4x4 f-150 from 2004 up with 275/70 18s which is a true 33" tire (33.2-33.4 depending on brand). Ford and Ram have stupidly large wheel wells. A 2" lift allows 34s. I still have 4 Wildpeak at3w on steelies (including TPMS) from when I had my 2018 F150 if you'd like more clearance Andre. ~13/32" left. I'm less than 30 minutes from Boulder.

  • @backwoodstherapy

    Andre, if you put a leveling kit on your F150, trimmed up that front air dam, and put some proper AT tires on it I bet you'd see a massive difference in off road ability. Rough Country has a $400 loaded strut leveling kit. Some BFG KO2s in a 275/70/18 would look good and be easy better than your current tires and this wouldn't break the bank.

    TFL is the best. Andre sorry for your damage, but this video really helped me understand some of the FX4 limitations. I was thinking King Ranch Hybrid, but now it looks like the Tremor may get the nod. I am a newbie and I am trying to learn as much as I can before making a final decision a new vehicle and my 1st ever truck. I really want the Hybrid and 7.2 Pro Power Onboard, but it looks like I may have to either wait or punt on those options on a Tremor. Nathan, I appreciate your experience and comments on why you said some of the "auto" options might not be a fit for you, but I see them as ideal for anyone who is new to off-road.

    when I went on the ironclads i bypassed the razor rocks (Tommy was actually taking the defender up it at that time, and I didn't have a spotter so I didn't want to risk it) then I went a little farther and eventually got to a big ledge that I didn't think my Gladiator front end would clear. Did I take a wrong turn somewhere? I'm pretty sure I have a better approach angle than that FX4, and I don't think that air dam on Andre's truck would have cleared the ledge I encountered. I turned around and came back down.

    FX4 has basically become a decal package for the most part. The FX4 is probably geared more for camping and fire service roads and work related stuff. The Tremor obviously more for slower speed off road and a little smidge of the Raptor in there. They are Both nice though , just different needs and wants. I’ve owned 2 Raptors (gen2) 18&20. Where I live in Wisconsin we pretty much have to go to the northern part of our state for trails. When I had the Raptors they were just too big to fit down these trails. The came the Tremor so I have to a shot. (Twice). A 22&23 that I bought last week. (22 got wrecked). “For me” it’s the perfect blend of comfort for long road trips and still hitting some nice trails. All of the above trucks had a 3.5 which I have grown to like mainly because I’ve never had an issue and the 5.0 has an oil consumption issue. And “YES” for the record I’d rather have a v8.

    As usual, a great video. I get my 22 F150 Hybrid Lariat in a couple weeks (replacing my 2015 Lariat), although I'm not sure I'd take a truck that big on a trail like that. Damage is too pricey and crew cabs are just too long for most trails. I'll stick to easy trails and backroads and use a different vehicle for those trails. That said, it's cool to see how capable they really are. What trail were you on? I'm just outside of Longmont and would like to try that one, in a different vehicle. Cheers!

    I don’t think anyone is taking a stock FX4 on that trail. If they did they would still pop off the front air dam for sure. Must would at least put a level and some better tires before attempting this.

    Hey Guys, cool review of both the FX4 and the Tremor trucks. Andre believe me when I say, that if your FX4 had a 2”-2.5” lift kit and a descent BFG All-terrain (285/75) you would have done essentially everything that the Tremor executed. Your FX4 truck has all the factory essentials needed to go explore built into that pkg.

    My 21 Lariat FX4 sport appearance powerboost has the extended length fixed running boards and also has the small plastic piece ahead of rear tire instead of the big deflector Andre has on his truck. I have Hancook 33" tires from factory on the optional 20" dark gray wheels. Does Andre's XL have smaller tires than 33" from factory? If he has same 3.73 rearend and sits lower because of smaller tires, then XLT trim and above FX4 equipped trucks would actually sit slightly higher and have more aerodynamic wind drag, but maybe a little more ground clearance. So his XL may suffer more than the average FX4 offroad.

      @@Norwisco I think they meant it as hurting more emotionally (given how much the vehicle costs in total). Though Anti-matter Blue may also be more expensive (along with some top trim paints) to repaint panels and such, so there is that possibility to have a higher cost associated with scratches..

    • @dfdorsey85
      @dfdorsey85 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why does top-of-the-line matter when you're talking body damage? Not like they got a Cadillac Pearl Paint that requires whole vehicle repaint to match. I feel bad regardless if its a work truck vs top-of-the-line. Damage is damage regardless how much you spent on the vehicle. What and where he damaged literally makes no difference on the price of the vehicle.

      @kingshawn1857 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't mean expense wise it's obviously the same body pannels this particular model is meant to be used and is going to aquire dents and dings as apposed to a limited or king ranch package it would hurt the owner a lot more personally had it been a higher trim level this is a work truck not a show truck see what I'm saying

  • @Nate-zy5ce
    @Nate-zy5ce 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Love your vids guys. A few questions at the end. I'm torn between the Platinum, Tremor and Raptor. The Raptor is really overkill for me, but dang it looks the best, and with all springs instead of leaf struts I suspect it's the nicest highway drive. Being older and not off road as much as I used to, that would be nice. Would love the Raptor with among other things its extra height and its wider, more aggressive stance, but am concerned about how much wider it is, the extra 7"s on the width seems a bit more than I want. The Tremor is apparently 1" higher and 1" wider than stock which is good, but I wish the Tremor was maybe 1 1/2 to 2"s wider on each side compared to stock with an aligning added fender instead of just 1" wider, and maybe 2-2 1/2" higher compared to stock instead of just 1" higher. And if I remember correctly, the Tremor has springs at one end anyway, which I like, though would prefer springs at both ends. The Tremor is a reasonable happy medium between the Platinum and Raptor though, and does have some added capability over the Platinum. I just love the better mpg and the luxury, massaging, reclining, all black, all leather seats of the Platinum. My questions:
    Do you know, could I modify a loaded blacked out Platinum to be levelled and lifted 2 1/2"s, ideally with springs to replace the leaf struts, use 35 tires, offset the tires say 1 1/2" to 2" on each side, and add fenders to align with the outside edge of the offset tires, all of it blacked out, exterior and interior? Do you know, can I get all black leather seats in the Tremor instead of those with so much orange in them? If so I could then just get the Tremor stock otherwise. I really want an all or largely all blacked out vehicle, exterior and interior. Also, if I can get the Tremor seats blacked out, could I add a bit more lift and offset to the Tremor easy enough, plus the aligning wider fender, and maybe slightly larger tires if those aren't 35's? And what do you think of my Platinum and Tremor modification ideas?

    i really feel for andre, i just bought a gecko green JLUR 4xe off the showroom floor with all the bells and whistles about two weeks ago & this past weekend i took it out on some trails... little did i know that one of the trails was a bit more than i anticipated, i got WAY too close to damaging the top, fenders, doors, on multiple different points of this trail & there was no way to turn around.
    That feeling when youre wondering if your brand new vehicle is about to slide or tilt into something (which is already too close for comfort) makes it so hard to keep composure

I still get out and check because I think I’m going to bottom out and I’m amazed when I still have 2-3 more inches of clearance under the front bumper.
