Loved this film. I read the novella before I saw it, so expectations were a bit high, because it's fantastic. But the movie didn't at all disappoint. In fact, being a totally different medium than a book, it had to find its own life, and way into the story. The quiet intensity is maintained throughout as we watch Bill unwind from the trauma of his youth and the stress of raising 5 girls in the Ireland of the 80s. Brilliant performances especially by Cillian, Eileen Walsh, Emily Watson, and though brief, Michelle Fairley. Well acted in general. Knowing/ experiencing a bit about Irish culture and specifically about Ireland in the 80s is very helpful and adds to your understanding of the movie, but it's not necessary to appreciate it and to feel its weight. I loved it and would like to own it as I do the novella. I very much recommend Claire Keegan's work, especially this bit.
@@rehnumachowdhury3629 I think that's certainly part of it! The North American release has been much more limited. Even so, the general "buzz" in the film world is still fairly muted (relative to what I think it deserves, at least).
I cant belivee how few people are talking about or reviewing this film. Its so good snd Cillian is incredible in it
@@bezerina1512 it's a shame!

It's definitely being talked about in Ireland and the UK. Maybe the American release was more limited?

The movie Philomena tackled the same subject. A great film starring judi dench.
