Great video. I don't usually comment on TH-cam, but I must say you did a great job clearly explaining it in a way where someone with no experience would understand it. Good job!!!
Just put 3 PIR ElChina Specials up, on existing 2 lamp floodlights, and did watch this video before tackling it. It's helpful that you put this up as well... One last check to confirm that I knew exactly how to install these with the red, brown, and blue wires. Ebay seller could have sent the proper hookup on US Black and White , but just sent copy of the paper diagram, which is labeled badly. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Great video and it really help me to understand how to wire a sensky sensor. One possible tip for others installing this sensor: don't use their cheap plastic wire connector. I wasted a good bit of time diagnosing what I thought was a mis-wiring problem but turned out to be this connector.
Can I install this on my outdoor pot lights I have like 10 pot lights on the frkjt and garage side installed - would this work for that ? All led light and a normal switch
The Link you provided for the motion sensor isn't the same one you used in your video?? So, I guess I purchased the wrong one?? After researching on Amazon I now believe that this is the correct one that I'm Listing:SK037 3-12M 360 Degree Ceiling Occupancy Sensor PIR Motion Sensor Switch High Sensitive Motion Sensor Light Switch(110V-240VAC) Does it make a difference??
Hi Can I use this sensor on a plug in outlet? I just installed deck steps led lights 12V with a 120 transformer plug in on the other end of the cord on my steps.
I hope you figured this out and got your stairs lit up. For anyone wondering the same thing, you should buy a different version of the sensor designed to run on 12V DC (and switch 12V DC, right?)
Great video. I think I did something wrong on my installation. Although the motion sensor triggers the light on, when there is no movement the LED has a constant flash every 3 seconds or so. Have you ever had this occur? For now I have disconnected the sensor and the LED works fine. Any advice appreciated.
I have a 3 way that turns on 2 lights on a staircase. I would like to convert the switch to a motion sensor and still turn on the 2 lights. Only one thing I just want the lights to go on when it's dark not day time.
Ehhh i dont think so. You would have to find a motion sensor that is wired for 3 way wiring. I've never seen one but that doesnt mean they dont exist. If you were to find one, yes, you could make it work. Most sensors have a setting that will only turn the light on when its dark
Thank you for your response. I have placed a motion sensor on my 3 way switch in garage area and it works. looking for a photo cell light to replace the switch. I want this to control the other 2 lights on that circuit. hopefully when it gets dark.
Can I mount the light in the centre of a room and its sensor at the corner of the room/before the doorway? I've read somemore that the sensor covers a certain degree of area.
Yes you can do that. I actually did this for my parents house. I put it at the man-door in the garage so when they come out it turns on. Placement should be about 5 ft from the door. If its too close, like directly above it, I think it doesnt work as well.
Absolutely. You can add it in between your existing light switch and the light. You will need the light switch to be on for it to work or take out the light switch to have power to the motion sensor at all times
Crystal Lentz great question! You can use multiple lights. They must be wired after the motion sensor (just like a normal light switch) and not exceed the watt rating for your sensor.
I have two of these and they both are always on now, do you know what might be causing this? Lights are flashing red. the two that are working have a green light.
Is it possible to mount 2 motion sensors in parallel(one at each end of the basement) as to keep the lights on no matter where in the basement someone is?
Hello Appalachian DIY I just bought a porch light with motion sensor. the light has two (2) wires: 1 black and 1 white however the sensor has five (5) wires: 1 Red, 1 Yellow, 1 White, and, two (2) Blacks. Your video help me understand how to install it. But I still need assistance. Can you please help ? Thanks in advance
I like when you speed up the video when installing because your breathing also gets faster and it look like you're just feverishly nutting the conductors together lmao
I recently converted fluorescent tube fixtures to LED tubes. Can you recommend a PIR sensor that would mount on a standard 4 foot fluorescent fixture in a garage?
The one I used in the video could be used. Just screw it onto an end. Motion sensors are best used in an area that would pick up the motion like near a door or hallway instead of directly on a light fixture(its all preference based though, so your situation may be unique to what you need)
Did you want the load to light up when one (either) of the sensors is triggered? Or do you want the load to light up only with both sensors are triggered? The solution depends on what you want.
I'm trying to hook a LED light up to my motion light but you guys ain't showing the exactly how to do it for outside and that's what I'm trying to do if you guys go to video please send it to me
Dear Appalachian DIY. I work with lots of sensors that were installed many years ago. But the sensors or the wires coming to it even the earth connection are all alive. I never seen anything like it. 4 wires all alive.

It is May 30 2020 and I just happen to stumble across this video....which makes me want to ask a question!!! Is the Sylvania light even still working in 2020 since you installed this in 2017????????? The reason I ask is I bought TWENTY PACKS (4 bulbs per pack) of Sylvania LED light bulb replacement bulbs for my house at $12 a package with the BULL$H*T promise that they would "save me money" as they were advertised to last 5 years AND they would use less electricity!!! BUT WITHIN SIX MONTHS four of the bulbs failed an just stopped working then in the next three months the LED bulbs would randomly fail in other areas of my home!! A year and a half later I was down to only ONE LAST BULB in the new bulbs I had left (stored) to replace and the last one I used quit working just three months after I installed it!! My point is that I bought Sylvania Bulbs thinking I was getting a "name brand product" that in my mind should have lasted longer as they are a well known BRAND!! And secondly I don't just haphazardly leave lights on constantly so many of these bulbs failed even without "normal use" as many were only installed in places like my kitchen or bathroom where I only left the lights on WHILE I WAS IN THE ROOM USING IT!!!! AND I have to report that of ALL the Sylvania LED light bulbs I had used and replaced ONLY ONE (in my bathroom) lasted four years total...and NOT the five years as advertised!! And I refuse to buy ANY LED light bulbs since in the traditional "light bulb" style!!! And to FURTHER explain that last sentence, I started building my own LED lighting system using LED strip lights instead! I installed a home made LED light strip light in my hallway that has lasted now for 7 years!! I also installed LED light strip lighting in my shed that has lasted for three years!!! And you can take ANY Sylvania lights and stick them where the sun don't shine because they are ALL GARBAGE in my book!!
well, I can clearly see your frustration with sylvania as anyone would be if they had your experience. Since these are not your typical light bulbs and are rather replacement can lights I can't compare. But since Ive made this video all my flush mounts are still going strong. I don't buy name brand bulbs I buy the ones from Home Depot. ecosmart, They done well for me and are cheap. of the 30is I got in my house I may have had 1 go bad premature. not bad in my book. thanks for the reply
I like your solution, Greg. I think the strip lighting will last longer than bulbs because the light (and therefore the waste heat) is spread out down the strip instead of balled up inside the lightbulb. I have just (Oct 2021) bought 4 Sylvania B-type (candelabra) LED bulbs that will go in a heavily-used dining room lamp all at the same time. We'll see if Sylvania had a temporary problem or a permanent one. :( I do feel like every manufacturer is different though, because I've had really good lifespan out of some bulb-style LEDs. I hope all-in-one integrated bulb deals Shawn bought last OK, because they're pretty expensive compared to a bulb. :)
@@derekp13 its hard to tell without seeing a wiring diagram. I would say, hook up what you know and trial and error for the rest. Sorry cant help more than that.

Nice video almost solve my problem but small question Sir If we need same in two locations then how please?
Wire them on a separate loop. Or you will need to use 3 way wiring
Cool! Can you do this to 3 different lights, say in a carport?
This is great, I didn’t understand the X on the diagram- it’s just staying on with a blinking green light. I can try again tomorrow

Can you wire lights on multiple sensors. Apartment hallway for example
You would somehow have to wire it in three way wiring. I'm not quite sure it would work
how many lighs can you hook up to the same motion sensor?

Absolutely. You can add it in between your existing light switch and the light. You will need the light switch to be on for it to work or take out the light switch to have power to the motion sensor at all times
Can you use more than one light with the motion sensor? Or do you need one sensor for each light you install?
Crystal Lentz great question! You can use multiple lights. They must be wired after the motion sensor (just like a normal light switch) and not exceed the watt rating for your sensor.

Is it possible to connect two motion sensor in order to trigger one lamp?
To my mind it can work probably if we respect to potential polarities to the lamp
Great videos Shawn I have a question can you keep the sensor on longer when I'm out in a dark area ?
shirley Lentz yes there is a setting on the motion sensor to adjust how long you want to have a light lit.
Q: If there was already a switch for light and we needed to change it to motion light how would we wire it?
you can remove the switch and put the motion sensor in its place. The sensor will act like the switch turning on and off the light automatically
