I am so happy to find you on youtube about how to plant Phlox bareroots. I bought this plant from Costco last week, I just put the whole bareroots inside the soil. Since I watched your TH-cam, I will dig out bareroots and I will put them into the water like your advice. Thanks.
If they are already in the soil I think they will be fine and being early Spring there should be enough moisture to get them going so feel free to leave them where they are at.
Thank you for this video! I got the same package of phlox yesterday from Costco. I plan on soaking them and planting. I was going to plant them in the front yard but thanks to this video, I decided to put them in the fully fenced backyard because I don’t want the deer to eat them.
This year (inspired by watching your channel the past 3yrs ) I'm starting a secret garden/room between the neighbours fence and my shed. The backdrop will be one of our firewood rows. I'll be using the frame to a broken back deck gazebo for vines and making a potting bench from palettes. Now you have me wanting an Everlasting Garden😁☺️
I am hoping I get to have the Everlasting Garden. Both trays of the Gomphrena and the Statice have succumbed to a mystery disorder and just shriveled up!!! I just seeded some more. I guess I can try to find some starts somewhere but that gets pricy $$$. It may end up just being a Cut Flower Garden instead. I am so happy for you. I am working on the Front Garden too, it is a mess and needs an overhaul desperately!
❤ I can totally relate!! I too often buy plants and don’t know where I want them just know that I want them!! Thanks for this video . Was hesitant to get the bareroot for these because it looked dead but good to know it just looks like this from the bag. So last year I bought one this past year (it’s white with a hint of pink I forget the name) . This year I will grow some red riding hood and perfect orange paniculata if I can find some bare roots ! Happy gardening!
Sadly, these really started to grow great, then we got a very late hard freeze and only one survived. But I will try again as that was a freak year. All my established Phlox have done wonderfully and I know once I get them going they will reward me year after year.
I do window sill gardening. Last year I began growing dandelions from seeds I gathered. At the end of the season I decided to harvest Carrigana seeds and I also collected some acorns for decoration. The Oak seeds have cracked open and I'll be planting both this year. I'm so curious about native plants and how we might add these to our yards in a beautiful way.
Hmm I just received my bareroot phlox but I am only supposed to store them for ~2 weeks. The temps here are 40’s to 50’s now but our technical “last frost” date is all the way in April 20. Im thinking they’re hardier than ranunculus though, and I can probably plant them in two weeks. The ground is workable and never really hard freezes though we had a freak blizzard two weeks ago with temps in the 20’s. (I’m in Pacific Northwest, zone 8b)
Go ahead and plant them and if they threat of frost arrives then just deep mulch them with a layer of something. I prefer straw, it is lightweight but effective.
I would wait until you are past it. Phlox are cold hardy once they are established but when I planted these out in the garden a week later we got a hard frost and some were peeking above the soil and it killed them back and they did not recover.
I’m starting peonies! Tons of them. I love the ones I find at Costco!!! Very healthy. I did get some talk phlox and normally I never have good luck but I figure it’s Costco…. I’ll take them back if they aren’t healthy. I’m going to start them in a pit first and see if they are viable. 🤓
It depends upon your weather. Has it warmed up enough for them to get growing? I just checked mine and they are already starting little buds at the soil surface.
@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse It is still a little cold here. 50s this week and 40s next, which should be the last frost of the season since nights could dip to below 30. That said, is it safe to assume that the phlox is not dead in the ground?
@@apexhowler They are very cold hardy so they should be fine. I found some more of mine really peaking up and we are to be hit with low 20's the next few nights. I guess we will find out how tough the little guys are.
If I were you I would try the annual phlox instead but you never know until you try. On most packages and online information it says they are for zones 3-9, but your growing conditions could work out. Zoning is only one part of the equation so you really won't know until you try. I wish you success!
What's a great soil to plant phlox? I planted phlox bulbs from this exact bag in video 2 months ago and nothing.. the roots are just laid out in soil.. I'm thinking it's the wrong soil
They are fairly versatile. Mine started to grow then we got hit with those two freezes so it looks like they died, but I know that some plants can regenerate from the roots and I am waiting to see if these ones I planted do. Other than that I am not sure what to tell you.
Do you grow Phlox Paniculata and if so what colors do you have?
How long does it take for the root to germinate ?
.
@@Wolf-xu1fj If the temps are right it should show growth in a week or so.
@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse i planted Cool Water Phlox 18 days ago, still no growth, the temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius
@@Wolf-xu1fj They are warm weather lovers so give them some time yet, they may come on up.

Glad it was helpful! Yes, the deer make a beeline for mine so smart choice putting them behind a fence.

Natives are great and exciting to work with. Sounds like you are well on your way.

Hi, does it matter if we're not quite past last frost date yet? Say, March 1st, zone 6b

Pot😂 not pit. Ugh
How long does it take for these bare roots to grow or sprout? I planted some 2 weeks ago, and no signs of anything yet. Should I be worried?
