Tall Summer Phlox, also called Garden Phlox, are the princesses of the summertime garden, with their vibrant colors and lush panicles. Tall Phlox grow from 3' to 4' and are native to North America and thrive in zones 4 to 8. Give them well drained, rich soil and full sun, and they'll reward with fragrant blossoms in lavender, pink, red, white, purple--a rainbow of colors. Tall phlox make great cut flowers, too. Watch out for mildew; remember to water your plants at the roots, not on the leaves. Happy Gardening, blessed be, River Lady

Congratulations. Tall summer phlox rock. Give them plenty of sun and room too avoid overcrowding by other plants. Make sure you water them at the base of the plant and deadhead spent blossoms. Oh dear, I am so excited for you i am repeating info from the video. 😍

I have been gardening for 40+ years and you have taught me something today :) I love phlox and my favourites are the new Luminary series. I have the white called "Backlight" and the pink called "Opalescence" , no mildew and no browning of leaves and they bloom forever it seems. Hello from Canada zone 6
Hello from Massachusetts. I don’t know those cultivars so I will check them out. Sadly we’ve had mildew inducing weather and even my mildew resistant plants are suffering. Plus, with my health I can’t tend them. 😞But some are soldiering on. Happy gardening 🌻

Hi, great question. First and foremost, I cut the plant back, if it's not flowering. Phlox will rebound nicely. Don't compost the remnants, dispose of them I. Your trash. Don't let them get near other plants. If you're wearing gloves, wash them before touching other plants and wipe the clipping where's with an alcohol wipe. If you're able to cut off all the mildew, great. If not you'll have to treat the remains parts but before doing that remove about one inch of the soil and dispose of it with cuttings. Getting rod of as many spores is vital. For an herbicide treatment I use neem oil. Mix 1 oz powdered milk to 2 liters of water. Milk doesn't burn the plant like some other treatments. If I only have a small area to treat I spy it by cotton balls. Reapply every two weeks and apply late in the day. Don't drown the plant. You can also spray the plant, avoid any flower heads or buds. Make sure you coat all sides of the leaves. If your plants are crowded thin them out in the spring when you see new growth and remember to water at the roots. Good luck and keep me posted. Hello, I do hope you are on the road to improved health; I find gardening good for the soul when my body is struggling. Tall phlox tend to battle powdery mildew, even the resistant strains, and may attract the fungus to your roses. Be watchful. I wouldn't plant them too close together, leave breathing room and remember to water them both at the roots and avoid getting the leaves wet. Once your bare root phlox are established, i.e. you see new growth, give them a blast of plant food. Good luck and happy gardening.

Oh I love hummingbird moths. Cool insects. Be sure to check out the new cultivars of tall phlox. They’re supposed to be mildew resistant, better than past varieties. Happy gardening 🌼

What a garden! Eve would be jealous! I do have an organic garden but they don’t seem to need fertilizers. Good soil I guess. Tons of redwood much. My phlox gets passed the top of the fence, has thick stems abd then bends over to touch the ground without breaking. I didn’t know that trimming doesn’t stop new blooms. Perhaps my error is I don’t trim Tim end of season where I cut them to the ground and mulch over. Obviously I’m self taught. Humn, think I’ll trim! Thank you so much. I can grow most everything but it’s all instinct without a wit of learning. I was experimenting for curiosity and now I need some lessons.Thank you!
